THE KVET SLIDE CONTINUES

Not a surprise They need to get someone in that will let the morning show talk more, play better music variety during the day.

They also canceled the Sunday morning Gospel program.
Not surprised. BOB COLE took a personal interest in that program; I know, I was there when he took it over from the late Dave Marcum. Without somebody like Bob who really cared about the music and looked forward to doing it each week, there's no point in continuing it. Just another feature that once made KVET-FM "The Genuine Austin Original."

It may still be running. It stayed with the AM signal even when it went to all sports. As of a few years ago, it was still on the air on 1300. I always thought they should have moved it to 98.1 but I think there was a movement to keep it on 1300 so it could continue to extend its run as the longest running show on a station in Austin. Or something like that.

I didn't know the gospel show was canceled also. Shows how much I listen to this station now. I guess they can't play enough of Garth Brooks, or the same 15-20 song playlist now on Sundays also.

IMO, the station is where and how CC wants it. It now sounds like every other country station in America, because the CC motto seems to be, 'make them all sound the same - there is no such thing as local feel - we know best' and uniquely Austin probably isn't the easiest sell on iHeart, therefore gut it and homogenize it. And since we don't have to pay for talent or creativity, it's cheaper to run. It's all about covering debt service.

And besides Austin stopped being Austin and started becoming the Bay Area several years ago, think fondly of the past, but it's time to move on, there won't be any return to the original sound and feel for the station. It has been marked for extinction.

My guess is that CC wants every station to sound like XM radio, with no local content what so ever.

That may be true about CC wanting to homogenize every station. I still think that Austin, even with all its influx of new people and all the changes, is different. I can't put it any other way than that...just different. Austin killed Stern 3 times, Kidd Kraddock a couple of times, in fact I can't remember a syndicated morning show that has ever succeeded in Austin. I still have to believe that in the Austin market (and probably in others) that locally based programming can do well. There will always be listeners to networked type music and talk shows such as those on satellite radio and Pandora or IHeartRadio, but that doesn't mean that everybody wants that or even most people want that. It reminds me of the arguments that come up every time a G rated movie does well at the box office. There are always a slew of conservatives who jump up and say "See? Family movies can make money so we don't need to make R rated movies." Obviously both can exist.

5.1 to 4.6 to 4.3 to 3.7. Holiday 2011 PPM KVET-FM now in 12th place with a 3.7 250,500 cume.
K-VET now in 13th place. January 2012 PPM down to a 3.3; cume stays about the same.

Good job CC for ruining one of the best country stations. ::)

Betcha 10 bucks CC is looking down the road and building stations which will be sellable as part of the iHeartRadio app. Their top 4 stations for N/T are KFI, KOA, WLW and KTRH. That ranking encourages IHeartRadio users to tune in to one of those four stations right away. It's easier for me to pull out my iPhone (which is always within reach, when a radio is not) and be listening to any format from any of their stations within 10 seconds. With that available, why would they try to make a "Genuine Austin" station, anyway? They're not managed by radio people anymore. They're managed by number crunchers. That means use the cheapest of talent, resources and distribution possible. Streaming costs a fraction of powering towers in various markets.

Think about it!

Since CC outdoors just sold 2.2 billion dollars of bonds http://www.allaccess.com/net-news/archive/story/103111/clear-channel-buys-more-time-with-bond-sale, they've got enough cash to last at least a day or two. And even though the bonds were sold through the outdoors portion, through creative accounting the cash will be spread around to the other divisions.

Now since these are 7 year bonds sold promising a 6.08% yield higher than treasury anyone want to wager on the odds of them being redeemed for that amount at maturity? Pity the poor bond holders who bought into the hype.

"This is really their emergency chute at this point," credit analyst SPENCER GODFREY told the paper. "They've bought themselves the option of time, which is the greatest option a company can have."

And now they have more time to finish the dismantling of the radio group and selling off its parts.

Like I said before, CC must want every station in America sound all the same, no local. It almost makes me just want to get XM. Then I would have lot more choices!

You must not have listened to XM lately. Mel K turned it into a CC clone with poorer fidelity! ;D

The only time I listened to it was in my brother's wife's car has it. The sound quality is horrible, I usually carry along my walkman when riding with them and listening to FM San antonio. ;D

I listened to a few minutes of the KVET morning show today for the first time since Bob Cole was run off. The 15 minutes I listened to sounded a lot like the other morning shows...just a bunch of fluff very annoying to listen to. Whoever the idiots are that decided to change everything about this station should be very proud of themselves. I am sure the young man and woman who are doing the morning show are good radio folks and I am not directing this towards them but rather the morons that they call bosses.

I hope CC is proud what they done to KVET. At least they could bring back the mother trucker on HD-2, that was one of my favorite HD-2 channels in Austin, that along with Mega, and boom box on KHFI. but they are no more now. (At least Mega is still here!)

Only time I "Use" kvet is to update my time clock using RDS on my radio clock.

Down once again 3.2 today, time to flip it to Classic Country and get rid of whatever the heck this format is, cause it sure isn't working, oh and by the way, get rid of 'generic radio voices' and put some local flavor back into it.
