THE KVET SLIDE CONTINUES

Also, Austin can clearly support two country stations, so Clear Channel blows up 98.1 opening the door for someone else to flip to country and hurt KASE. Right now they own country in Austin.

Also, Clear Channel didn't even think 1300 was worth keeping on the translator. Zero percent chance they are going to blow up country on 98.1 to simulcast 1300 any time soon.

Well, point taken, but how MUCH money is CC willing to lose on KVET-FM in order to protect KASE? When KVET-FM was breaking even it wasn't a big deal. But if what we read here is to be believed 98.1 is now a drag on CC. How much difference does it make to the company if it's losing money due to reduced total billings due to a new country competitor or total reduced billings due to the incompetency at KVET-FM?

As I said uptopic...a previous post alluded to it.

One of my undercover sources at CC says that KVET is starting to lose money now. I can see them glossing over a ratings slide as long as the money was coming in but I don't know how corporate can let the local management get by with causing money loses. The Zone gets the money from the Longhorn Contract which will always sell. If KASE, which has always been the cash cow of the group, starts to lose money then I see some major changes coming.

Oh, how the mighty have fallen. If the station is not dead by the end of the Labor Day weekend, then it will be dead by Christmas!

I'm thinking either Classic Hits, Rhythmic Oldies, or Variety Hits.

I still say Veteran's Day, hence the name K-VET. At 12:00 AM after Veteran's Day. Remember, KUT plans to flip KXBT in the end of fall, which is how many days before Veteran's Day?

Flashback, Froggy flipped to Party 94.7, and 1 week later, AC Key 103.5 became Oldies 103.5.

Still no update to my email to Clear Channel about KVET-FM.

From the 5/31/2012 All Access:

Congrats to CLEAR CHANNEL Country KVET and KASE/AUSTIN PD JOEL BURKE, who has signed a new, multiyear deal to continue with both stations.
JOEL has been with KVET/KASE since 2010 and he previously spent more than a decade programming LINCOLN FINANCIAL Country KYGO and Oldies KRWZ-A.

Let's see Joel Burke was PD of a Country and Oldies Station before signing on to KVET/KASE.

There's no one at KVET with enough institutional memory to know what the station's call actually meant.

I notice KVET is now using the liner "The new sound of 98.1 KVET."

Yeah, the "new, watered down, iPod (on shuffle with commercials) like sound of KVET." LOL.

i guess they mean by new sound by sounding distorted and the same playlist?

Or before the La Raza incarnation of 98.5 Port Arthur and 103.3 Freeport Houston, Jammin hits up and down the dial, and they simulcasted on AM 880 and AM 1230 during it's final days.

I smell format flip!!!!

What makes you think they are losing any money on KVET-FM?
Ryan, let's just say that an internal email over at CC may have stated that KVET is now in the red. Oh, and by the by, the reason that CC pulled KVET-AM off the 103.1 translator had to do with a conflict over the Zone's content with the religious owners of the translator. They didn't really care for the strip club ads and the scantily clad women on the website. Not that the programming on the Zone is any winner these days, but the Longhorn contract which is primarily serviced by the Zone is still going to bring them revenue.

KVET-FM is STILL in EIGHTEENTH (18th) place with a 2.0 August PPM.

I am firing up the Sound card and Insignia HD Radio connected to it via 3.5 cable on Veteran's Day if KVET is still country. I will set it to record from 12 Noon to 12 Noon the next day.

Do they even have a morning show any more? Every time I tune to it, it's either the same music or commercials. (which not very often I tune to it.)

Yes, they do but they are more like KASE and play more music than talk. Chris Mosser and Anne Hudson. Both good people who have been put in a bad situation by really bad management.

I think they made KVET sound to much like KASE. It's sad they wont let Chris and Anne talk When I did hear them it was interesting.... If my truck could do AM better I would be listening to AM full time when I'm in my truck.
