The latest big name out the door at Cumulus

I just had an interesting conversation about the “brain drain” on Shadeland Av, since Cumulus bought the stations. Here is a list of folks that left because of Cumulus or were asked to leave by Cumulus. I’ve included their Shadeland position and what they are currently doing.

Charlie Morgan – Market Manger (now COO - Indianapolis Motor Speedway Productions)
Jenny Skjodt – WJJK GM (now GM – WKLU)
Bob Richards – WFMS PD (leaving to start own business)
David Wood – Ops Mgr. (left to start own business)
Todd Schumacher – DOS (left to become Market Manager @ Cox/Louisville)
Drew Medland WFMS GSM (left to become GSM @ WILV/Chicago)
Tim Burns – WFMS LSM (left to be GSM @ Fox Sport Midwest)
Nikki Wills – Song GSM (left to be GSM at WHHH)
Sheri Aquisto – WFMS/WGLD Promotion Director (left to work for 500 Festival)
Max Turner – Chief Eng. (semi-retired, doing contract work)
Larry Downes – Internet Manager (left to oversee all Internet for Regent)
Julie Reyburn – Internet Sales Manager (left to start her own business)
Nancy Ochoa – Market Controller (left to work for Morgan @ IMS Productions)
Robbie Green – WFMS GSM (replaced Medland – left to work for Morgan @ IMS Productions)
Bruce Elscott – WGLD/WJJK mornings – (on the beach)
Scott Roddy – WGLD afternoons – (WKLU PD)
Don Riley – WGLD evenings (WIBC news)
Eileen Worcester – WGLD/Song mornings (Entercom – sales)
Jeff Angel –WGLD am producer (out of business full time. @ WFMS parttime)
Kurt Wallace – Song – mornings (now PD at CMM station in Cincy and WFMS parttime)[/list]

Plus a slew of sale people have left. Who have we left off?

Weren't the Song and WGLD dead before Cumulus bought out Susquehana?

Gold changing to Jack did happen near the end of Susquehanna. Cumulus pulled the plug on the Song during their first year of ownership. Based on the billing of FM Talk and now Warm, I bet they'd like a do over.

To be fair:

Schumacher took the Louisville gig before the takeover.

Roddy was dismissed about six months before the end of Gold for disciplinary reasons.

Riley was let go when Gold was killed, which was indeed before the takeover.

Todd knew what was coming. That Cumulus wouldn't continue on with the Center for Sales Strategy program. He originally came to Indy from Cox Louisville and went back to that cluster which still follows the CSS beliefs. His wife is also employed as a sales talent scout for the Center. The Dickeys want the dollars booked NOW and not at a more methodical pace.

Who's business is it that he was let go for disciplinary reasons?

And how do you know this?

Amazing how they let you talk about your former employees on this board. Should be disallowed.

Incorrect.

Scott was released from WGLD in August 2005 for repeated problems and general unreliability.

He spent about nine months as a stewardess until he hooked up with the Byrds in Franklin in an attempt to revive Gold.

The rest of the Gold staff lasted until March 2006 with the format flip; Don Riley and Steve Rich were blown out entirely while Jeff Angel moved briefly to promotions before being let go in May.

WRONG, WRONG, WRONG. Okay, somebody needs to correct this right freakin now, and it may as well be me. Scott was NOT let go for "disciplinary reasons" and was right there doing his usual excellent, crazy show right up until the last day with the rest of us at WGLD in March '05. All of us are damn proud of that station and of our airstaff there, and this accusation is completely wrong. This whole thing should be removed, because it is borderline libelous.

Stewardess? Waitress I can see, but not a stewardess. I don't remember anything crazy about his show either. Define crazy. Roddy was a nice hyper little man that the blushing 50 year old grandma's use to love to listen to. If he was disciplined it was probably because he asked for a spanking now and again. I listened to the station and remember that he was there all the way to the end.

calm down brucie.....its just someones opinon, at the end of the day.damn its just radio

i agree..crazy me thinks not, i bet scott got a alot of homemade apple pies

Bruce

Well, you certainly have the free time...

But you're right, it was March of '05.

Are you really going to get that worked up over some troll who can't even get the dates right?

True enough, but one sort of wishes that those who post here were obligated to edit their own thoughts before spilling them out onto the pages of this board. Whether or not what is said here conforms to the TOS of the site should be secondary to whether or not what is said here could be construed as malicious rumor-mongering. I don't know Mr. Roddy, but I'm disappointed that some of our bretheren here have lowered themselves to randomly bashing a man who by all accounts is just working hard trying to earn a living.
