Or the myriad of changes to 990 AM in Southington. ;D
There's a big difference between all the changes at 104.1 and 990.
All the changes at 104.1 have taken place over a 15 year period (1992-2007). 4 formats over 15 years - HOT AC, Modern Rock, Hip-Hop, and Modern Rock again. Kind of weird that all the format changes at 104.1 over the past 15 years have taken place in the fall. STAR 104.1 was launched in September 1992, RADIO 104 was launched at the end of October 1994 (they officially didn't start calling themselves RADIO 104 until early 1995 and didn't take on the WMRQ call letters untul March 1995), POWER 104.1 launched in September 2003 and became WPHH on October 1, and now this fm 104 one launched on October 25, 2007.
All the changes at 990 have taken place over a period of only 8 years.
Spanish Tropical LaBrava 990 July 99 - September 15, 2000.
Dark September 15, 2000 until September 28, 2001 (Note: The station was only supposed to be off the air from 930PM 9/15 until 600AM 9/16, however after LaBrava was evicted equipment was vandelized and the station was inoperable).
Test Programming of Various Types 9/28/00 - 10/24/00. Test Programming included Spanish Music, a mixture of R&B Oldies and Regaee Music, and The Game Show Network's Greatest Game Show Theme Songs Volume 2. (The regular scheduled Ethnic and Religious Shows on Sunday aired as well as Southington High School Football).
Hip-Hop Blaze 990 - 10/24/00-Thanksgiving Day 2001. - Blaze Communications leased the station 6AM-6PM Monday-Saturday. No one leased the overnights so a CD of Blaze's regular music aired on repeat all night long. In September 01 Blaze Communications lease was terminated. The hip-hop format aired 6AM-9PM Monday-Friday. Overnights were leased to a Spanish Language Preachers. Saturday and Sunday Afternoons were filled with NCAA and NFL Games. Blaze unofficially died on Thanksgiving Day 2001 after a board operator deserted the station during the Southington High School Football Game.
FOX NEWS CHANNEL - More or less Thanksgiving Day 2001 until February 2002. The audio of FNC ran over 990 24 hours a day (aside from the Football games and ethnic programming on Sundays) as something to keep the station on the air while their GM readied their new format.
News/Talk - NOTTY 99 and later 990 The X - February 2002 until May 2004. Station was sold in May 2004, which is why the format changed.
Spanish AC/Local Programming - May 2004-August 2004. An outfit called Anda Productions Leased the station 6AM-6PM Monday-Saturday. They ran a Spanish AC format called SUPERMAX 990. Time was made available to lease out by anyone who wanted a show after 6PM. Studios for SUPERMAX Programming moved from Old Turnpike Road in the Plantsville Section of Southington to the Penthouse of the Channel 3 Building at 3 Constitution Plaza in Hartford.
Spanish AC Programming SUPERMAX 990 - August 2004 until July 2005. Format ran virtually 24/7. (except for Sunday ethnic shows).
Spanish Tropical POWER 990 - July 2005 until October 2005. - Anda Productions lease was terminated in July 2005. DMG flipped 990 to POWER 990, a tropical format programmed in house on Old Turnpike Road.
Talk - Talk Radio 990 CT's Talk Radio For Women - 10/05 until 5/07. DMG rehired 990s former GM to bring back a talk format in October 05. He signed a 2 year Time Brokerage Arangement to keep the format going in July 06. From my understanding the station wasn't making enough money and the station reverted back to DMG in May 2007.
Spanish Christian May 2007 - Present. Since May 10, 2007 at 330PM 990 has been leased out and running a Spanish Christian format, which is partially simulcast from WNSW in NYC. While I don't mind the programming (hey DMG can do what they want with the station), I have issues with how horrible the Audio Qualilty is. And it sounds just as bad on WNSW, which leads me to believe the programming is not originating at the WNSW studios.
