THE LINK @ X

Since The Link changed formats around this time in 97 I am curious if they had any kind of birthday bash for the listeners or was it business as usual??? CC1

Considering that they are now a lifestyle talk station, rather than a HOT AC, it's pretty much business as usual.

i hear so much of how bad the link is ratings wise. i've only heard it a few times riding through the queen city, but i honestly didn't think it was THAT bad. i wonder why it is failing so bad? i figured a city like charlotte could have enough of their target demo for it to work??

That's a good question. I can't figure it out either. IF you are a fan of "personality radio" no station does it better than 107.9 The Link. The folks are funny, maybe they're just a little too hip for the room. Maybe they need to work on being a little more informative and also play a little more music during the day.

When I first moved here Charlotte was a sleepy little town and it was easier to figure out what worked and what didn't. With the influx of people during the last 10-12 years it's not as easy to get a handle on what the market wants or who the people are, that are listening.

One thing that might help would be to have the station more involved in the community. With Bob & Shari on the network it's hard to have them do a local show around town somewhere. Same for Matt & Ramona who are also on the network I believe.

When I first moved here it seemed like WBT or WBCY covered just about every local event.

I just see the 12+ numbers so I assume they are doing well in some desirable demographic.

Stop it Broker, be nice. And you may want to check your facts next time, BEFORE the postinq. ;D

Look for yourself. I realize that you think The Link is the greatest radio station on earth, but I'm sorry, it just doesn't do well. Look at the numbers, probably in just about any demographic which matters, and you'll see that The Link is literally the lowest-rated station which has Charlotte as a COL. If it isn't the lowest-rated, it's close to the bottom.

We're goin' number one, man! Pam Stone twenty-four hours a day!!! :p Sorry, have to give you a bit of a hard time. Thankfully, my only exposure to The Link comes when you wear one of their tshirts to work.
