The Merger

Okay, now that some time has passed since the merger of Sirius and XM, and all the promises that was made and never kept, and all the predictions that turned out to be wrong; can anyone tell us how the actual numbers are going and if this company is making any money. Thank you all in advance for your thoughts and comments

Yea, Mel's making lots of money after they fired most of the XM music directors and program directors that made XM so freakin' great!
Then Mel gave his buttbuddy Howard a ton of money to stay, nearly bankrupted the company, then got a satellite company to invest heavily to save his sorry ass. Numbers are up, but they still lose a quarter million subs ever quarter.
No new decent radios in time for Christmas except one. Lied about price increases. Lied about taking away internet access. Lied about the 'free channels' being available to all for free, even without a sub. Now a price increase in January.
I'm not happy on how XM was destroyed and assimilated by the Borg: Sirius.

Long-live the old XM.

What a shame. I loved XM when I subscribed 6 yrs ago. If they don't renew my price special when it expires, I am gone too. I also remember all those promises made before the merger, and am a bit surprised that the Feds let him get by with that. Oh well, just another thing that the Feds do poorly

BRING BACK "ON THE ROCKS" :D

Agreed :)

Ever since the merger, I've been listening less and less...I hope the brain childs behind XM go on to create a free online
internet radio service :)

::)

If you hate it so much, don't subscribe. I have no issues and it's certainly better than most of the stations in my area. I love SiriusXM. It's a God send for rural customers like me.

I've given up on XM since Sirius wrecked it. I'm going to spend my coin on a Logitech Squeezebox that CAN get deep oldies (like "rewoundradio") - but I just can't use it in my car - now that's a real drag. Too bad the new 30 channels are all crap too - nothing to make up for the destruction of XM as it once was.

Can you provide us more information on this site? Thank you

I would recommend an inexpensive smartphone plan (preferably Android) with unlimited data. You can even find some for around $50/month or less. Phones are getting cheaper too. Then download the TuneIn app, and even one like Pandora if you prefer (or IHeartRadio for the Clear Channel stations). Great for in-car listening!

The perfect time to still have cassette. ;D

Or, if your computer can do it, burn it on CD or record & encode it for an mp3 player.

Anyway you can record it at home and enjoy it on the road is good. ;)

I know Virgin Mobile offers "unlimited" (up to 2.5GB) data for $35 a month and they offer a LG Optimus V Android phone for Virgin Mobile for $69 this week at Target. I would say that's a pretty good solution for streaming, 2.5 GB of data should get you through the month if you just stream during your commutes.

I enjoyed XM before the merger. 60's on 6 had a lot of fun promos and features that fell by the wayside. Also miss Cinimagic and Luna. I no longer subscribe, I just felt I could live without it, not that I listen to the local stations all that much. They don't offer the baby boomer generation very much!

I agree with you both. What was unique radio, went downhill quickly soon after the takeover. I do miss XM.

In the meantime, while all of you are complaining, The stock of Sirius XM is at bargain basement prices. There is one penny stock expert that has a hold on Sirius XM stock. So all of you who are complaining need to load up on the stock and have a voice as a shareholder.

I didn't realize that. All I keep hearing is how they are doing so well with the many subscribers they have. Isn't it something like 2 million listeners?

XM used to be different than the run of the mill local offerings, it was an oasis in a sea of bland radio. Now we have just many flavors of rock instead of unique music formats. That might be what the masses want but that's not what I want.

well, i agree with you two is better then one.
if you wanted to have more DJ's you went to Serius. If you wanted more music veriety you went to XM.
If you wanted a little of both (as I did), you get both.
Now I run XM here in FL and when i'm in PA I run Serius.
The 4 or so clear channel stations on XM, and the fact I'm not into sports, and dont listen to Talk Radio with Glenn Beck etc enough to warrent keeping both services in PA at all.
Two options = veriety which sadly doesn't exist anymore on satelite.

You can complain about the lack of variety on Sirius/XM until you are out in the MON (Middle of Nowhere). Then if you want anything even a little off the mainstream (mainstream here is Country, Golden Oldies, Classic Rock, Talk, and Ethnic) then Sirius/XM is about the only fall back.

There is a reason why that stock is worthless, and buying a ton of it will only serve as a way to part your money from your possession garnering little in the way of having any "say" in the way Sirius ruins, I mean runs things.

The best way to have some say in the matter is for more people to dump that sinking ship that is Sirius and let them slide to the bottom quietly. They have made it apparent that they really don't care for their listeners or providing quality in any manner. Sure they offer more than your local market does, but listen to them for about two weeks straight on most channels and you'll hear the same repeated playlists recycled over and over again. The only difference is that it takes slightly longer than the locals with their 300 song playlists. Also, try to call their customer service with a problem. Ticket closing is the mantra in that little corner of heaven. No matter if you the customer are satisfied in the end, as long as you go away, everything is settled. And the cool part is, you get to pay for all that abuse.

I dumped Sirius about a year after the merger when they gutted XM and never looked back. Don't miss 'em either.
