The Mountain changing formats

In addition to the "brand" stuff BW discussed (above), it's also demonstration of "corporate think" of "who cares how many of THAT format is in the market....WE don't have one there yet". So eventually, each owner has to have a country, a news, a CHR, some kind of rock, and some kind of AC to cover the sales force --- ooops, sales forces on the decline too --- make that to cover the "national sales effort to sell a market to an agency".

So we would have 3-4 ACs, 3-4 CHRs, 3-4 rocks, 3-4 country stations, and 0 variety. The niche formats need to come back in some way. IMO, KZIZ should team up with that 103.3 KMTT xlator and put smooth jazz on there.

I cant believe I am saying this.. but I think KIXI 880 is currently the most interesting radio station in the Seattle area right now..

SHHHHHH!!!!

You must NEVER say a station is "interesting" where they can hear you.

I am noticing a lot of stuff that was played from 2002 to 2006 on HOT. Hip Hop and Slow Jams. All KUBE needs to do is alter their format slightly and they will win as KUBE has the established Rhythmic brand in this market.

Ahhh okay I get you ;)

What i meant by that... KQMV, KJR, and KKWF are "interesting" radio stations. When I listen to them I become so enthralled I cannot seem to breath out of excitement.

The piece of this no one has mentioned....who got "relieved" of responsibilities in the transition? Assume Fisher is out?

I haven't heard him play "Rump Shaker" yet. So it looks grim.

KQMV with 120 songs, KJR with about 200 songs, KKWF with about 200 songs - oh yay! :(

Another sad day in Seattle radio. Lowering my radio antenna to half mast. Another reason to leave FM radio and go Iheart and Pandora I guess.

Where else does one listen now to find Dave Mathews Band, Ray LaMontagne, Jack Johnson, Mumford & Sons...maybe some Train anymore?

98.9 seems like they've changed their play list a tiny bit. Have heard a few songs from these people (key word...few).

You're right about Movin, but wrong about KJR (450) and The Wolf (325). But hey, don't let facts get in the way.

And can someone remind me again which CHR is the market leader right now?

KINK is one AAA station that's unlikely to go anywhere but under brute force. And uphill. In an avalanche. It's a Portland institution. Nobody even THINKS of a format change on 101.9. And Chris Mays is still PD at KINK. If you like the old KMTT, KINK is way better than this HD2 crap on 103.7.

And in some areas, KINK comes in almost 24 hours a day. KINK is a powerhouse throughout the Seattle area at times.

It depends where you are. It comes in fine in Tacoma up to Federal Way. Hills are best. South facing windows of Seattle high-rises are also excellent.

In the lowlands, it's hit or miss. The farthest north I've ever heard them was on Decatur Island. The signal was also super prone to aircraft scatter up there, mixing interference from CFUV and sometimes CITR.

KINK is looking for former Mountain listeners
from their Facebook page

"Welcome to all of our new listeners in Seattle who used to listen to The Mountain. We're happy to have you as apart of the KINK Community. Spread the love and the music!"

Very nice. Thank you. Been listening since you posted it. Great mix and selections of that mix.

Just gotta figure out how to get the signal north of Seattle a few miles so I can listen in the car on the way home (don't have a new enough radio to broadcast the link thru the phone...yet).

There's aftermarket car stereos with front USB/AUX inputs.
