The Names Have It!

Reading Firepoint525's thread about songs with numbers in the title got me thinking, how about songs with masculine or feminine names in the title? For example:

Cathy's Clown -- The Everly Brothers
Wake Up, Little Susie -- The Everly Brothers

Little Latin Lupe Lu -- The Righteous Brothers
It's Judy's Turn to Cry -- Lesley Gore
Rikki Don't Lose that Number -- Steely Dan

Barbara Ann -- The Regents, later covered by The Beach Boys
Good Golly, Miss Molly -- Little Richard
Lucille -- Little Richard
Hang On, Sloopy -- The McCoys
Peggy Sue -- Buddy Holly
Hooray for Hazel -- Tommy Roe

Denise--Randy & the Rainbows
Penny Lane--Beatles
Julia--Beatles
Ben--Michael Jackson
Sweet Mary--Wadsworth Mansion
Mary In The Morning--Al Martino

The Beatles made a cottage industry of using names as song titles. There were "Anna" (a cover version), "Michelle," "Eleanor Rigby," "Sgt. Pepper," "Lovely Rita," "Mr. Kite," "Julia," "Hey Jude," "Lucy in the Sky," "Polythene Pam," "Mean Mr. Mustard," "Lady Madonna," and in their solo careers, "The Lovely Linda," "Mrs. Vanderbilt," "Oh Yoko," and "Dear Yoko." And even a couple of nameless characters, like the "Nowhere Man" and "The Fool on the Hill." And these are just the ones that I can think of off the top of my head!

Penny Lane (the actual street, not the song) was named for a man whose last name was Penny. In an attempt at political correctness, the Liverpool town council voted to change the name of Penny Lane when it was determined that Mr. Penny had been a slaveowner. However, Beatles fans would hear nothing of it, and demanded that the street name be left Penny Lane. (I believe there had also been the problem of street signs disappearing there!)

Lucy O Donnell of "Lucy In The Sky" died this week, at age 46....she was a chilhood friend of Julian Lennon. Julian came home from school and had drawn a picture of his mate Lucy ODonnell and told john thats "Lucy In The Sky With Diamonds"...and the rest is rock n roll history.

Shirley!
Shirley, Shirley bo Birley Bonana fanna fo Firley
Fee fy mo Mirley, Shirley!

Lincoln!
Lincoln, Lincoln bo Bincoln Bonana fanna fo Fincoln
Fee fy mo Mincoln, Lincoln!

Come on everybody!
I say now let's play a game
I betcha I can make a rhyme out of anybody's name
The first letter of the name, I treat it like it wasn't there
But a B or an F or an M will appear
And then I say bo add a B then I say the name and Bonana fanna and a
fo
And then I say the name again with an F very plain
and a fee fy and a mo
And then I say the name again with an M this time
and there isn't any name that I can't rhyme

Arnold!
Arnold, Arnold bo Barnold Bonana fanna fo Farnold
Fee fy mo Marnold Arnold!

But if the first two letters are ever the same,
I drop them both and say the name like
Bob, Bob drop the B's Bo ob
For Fred, Fred drop the F's Fo red
For Mary, Mary drop the M's Mo ary
That's the only rule that is contrary.

Okay? Now say Bo: Bo
Now Tony with a B: Bony
Then Bonana fanna fo: bonana fanna fo
Then you say the name again with an F very plain: Fony
Then a fee fy and a mo: fee fy mo
Then you say the name again with an M this time: Mony
And there isn't any name that you can't rhyme

Every body do Tony!
Pretty good, let's do Billy!
Very good, let's do Marsha!
A little trick with Nick!
The name game
