Correct spelling for the Monkees' version is "Valleri." Steve Winwood's "Valerie" has the commonly accepted spelling.

I know all of this because my sister's name is Valerie.

Maria--Johnny Mathis

"My Maria" by B.W. Stevenson (the writer), and covered quite well by Brooks and Dunn. I always thought that the B.W. Stevenson version was too short, but Brooks and Dunn corrected that by a long fadeout on the title chorus! Ronnie Dunn didn't particularly want to sing that song because he thought it was too high for his vocal range, but I thought he did an excellent job on it!
