I agree. However, that ship has sailed, and it ppears now to be in compliance with its license authorization, and by your own admission, airing quality programming of interest to its community of license.
Just returned to its licensed parameters less than 3 weeks ago. First time it's even been able to do that in years. Who is it actually serving, Engineering? Honestly. It has been off the air more than it's been on since, what, 2006? Even back then, it garnered few listeners. Then ContinuousWave bought it for pennies on the dollar. Even he had trouble keeping the damned thing operating. How many listeners do you think he had with "Musicradio Double LS? Stan. That's 1. Himself? That's 2. Curious members of this forum? We're now up to maybe 6, 7?

Great! It's on the air now, but with the facility's track record, the obvious question is for how long? Don't get me wrong. I'm not attempting to be combative or argumentative with you, but it's beyond time to take this broken legged horse out back and put her down. Long overdue. The idea that it gets as much attention on this website as it does is just absolutely baffling to me.

I don't know if this means that the Rítmo account is 100% real, but..

In order to earn listeners using any format (AM, FM, HD, Satellite, Steaming), you have to have continuity in transmission, meaning keeping the station on-the-air continuously, continuity in programming, meaning that the programming is continuous without long periods of silence during local avails, and finally the content must be something the listeners want to hear.

Music on AM is dead. All of the other formats I mentioned offer higher fidelity, and given a choice, listeners will choose a superior format. The only viable genres on modern AM are News/Talk, Sports, and ocassionally Religious. But even Religious broadcasters are making the move to FM. The recent acquisitions by KSBJ, EMF, and KHCB are proof of this.

You are basing your condemnation of the station on the mismanagement of the last two licensees. If they knew how to succeed in radio, then KHTW 1300 would be a success and we wouldn't be having this conversation. I have listened to the current programming, and I like it. I think it offers an alternative to the two other News/Talk stations they are competing with (KTRH and KLVI). In Beaumont, there is a significant number of listeners who have grown to dislike Al Caldwell and Jim Love, and believe it's beyond time for these broken-legged horses to be taken out back and reminded that McDonald's is always hiring. However, they need a place to go, and hopefully KHTW 1300 will offer them that place.

Pennies on the dollar?? You sir are sadly mistaken...and it was at full operation for most of the time I had it...2170 watts into the 3 tower DA day and 270 night... perhaps you need to correct your statement...I had tons of listeners...I bet you don't even live in the signal contour..oh well it shows ...date with the judge is Sept 14th...then onto trial...
Obviously you don't care....and IDGAF about your comments or ideas.

Why don't you share with everyone the particular court, it's location, and the time of your ex parte "date with the judge.". Many of us would like to watch the show. Afterwards, maybe I'll buy you a beer or two or ten to celebrate your victory. Hell, if you win, I'll spot you a C-note and drive you over to Golden Nugget Casino to see if your luck holds out. 🤣

Moderator Comment: ContinuousWave and theantennaguy: Keep this from being personal insults. Presentation of facts is OK, but things like "IDGAF" are not. Can't be making ratings claims that can't be substantiated (I have data from 2017 to present and it's a no-show). Etc., etc.

Better yet, can we move the KHTW discussion to the Texas board? That station has no presence in the Houston market.

I had hoped we could stay on track with changes coming to 92.1 and 97.1 when I created this thread.

I think the value of this forum is to be able to come in comment but also create a debate about what is and what isn't.
The truth Chris is that you did purchase it for pennies from what it was once worth. And the station was off and has been off for years, i was for a while involved with an operation in New Orleans i would say almost 2 years and remember the station on the air once. I recorded a few times video on my phone but figured it was not my problem to report.

I've gotta say, CW, your response to me has left me holding a lot less respect for you as a broadcast engineer, and more importantly a human being. You know damn well I'm not in Beaumont, but in Tyler. However, I certainly know many friends and acquaintances down there. Some you know, some you don't. My fellow East Texan family of broadcasters would be equally shocked and dismayed at your unacceptable response. Some of us "little guys" up here are, at various times, in need of a great engineering mind when things go haywire as they inevitably tend to do. I'll certainly do what I can to make sure your phone isn't the one to ring when it does.

You can always revert back to this thread as a not so friendly reminder as to why. You should absolutely be ashamed of your conduct.

Here are a few irrefutable facts that verify what I previously said regarding this dog of a facility. If he wants to argue that what I stated was a lie, then he can take it up with the Federal Communications Commission. This is from the public file of FACID#31108, currently KHTW (nee KLLS, KSET, KKAS) Lumberton, previously Silsbee, Texas.

License assignment from Proctor Williams to Christopher W. Boone, dba Southeast Texas Telecom, LLC. granted August 10, 2015. License transfer to Carlos Lopez from Southeast Texas Telecom, LLC. granted October 23, 2019. In that 4+ year stewardship, the facility was off the air, under STA, for the following periods:

April 8 - June 24, 2016. Total days, 77.

February 11, 2017 - February 11, 2018. Total days, 365.

February 16, 2018 - November 24, 2018. Total days, 281. That's a 5 day return to service, after off for a full calendar year, followed by nearly another full calendar year of documented silence.

January 20, 2019 - January 6, 2020. Total days, 351. Keep in mind, it was documented as silent under Special Temporary Authority when the transfer of license to current licensee Carlos Lopez was accepted for filing and then granted. That is the official scorecard from the FCC, for this particular facility. That is not taking unnecessary shots at the character of any of the previous three licensees (Chris Boone, Carlos Lopez, or Proctor-Williams). That is simply what is on public file. If one goes back clear to 2006, it gets even worse.

He can tell me he doesn’t GAF about me or what I think all he wants, but according to the record, what I said was accurate. Off the air more than it was on. That doesn't even delve into the NAL assessed against the license in March 2018, because he didn't even file a renewal in a timely manner.

The proof is in the pudding.
