The New KVOO

*chuckle*

Journalguy, you know a lot about radio and I respect you as a programmer in real life. You're a good manager of your respective staff and your stations perform well. But this post above is way beneath who you really are and the character with which you manage yourself in the light of day under your REAL name. These types of posts don't jive with your real reputation as "one of the good guys" in our market. I know we all get on here and vent from time to time. But really, Journalguy...was comparing KXOJ to Satan and Hitler really necessary?

I worked at KXOJ twice and had a great experience there. Believe it or not, there are several of us in the industry who have worked for KXOJ, learned a lot, and really enjoyed it. We've moved on to other things, but appreciate the team there. Is it perfect?

I'll put it this way. It's as perfect as Cox, Clear Channel, Renda, Perry, Shamrock and the other groups in Tulsa. All have their up sides and down sides.

PT2 - also, O'Shea - I have a TON of respect for you. You are a great broadcaster and I know you well and think you were a great co-worker. Maybe someday you will come back. You are the REAL deal when it comes to talent. Same for you COOP.

Also - please don't ever compare me to a KXOJ employee. GAG! Why does that place remind me of a Jim Jones cult operation? (and not the famous Jim Jones from KMOD days.) I am talking about the Kool-aide drinking crazy folk. I have friends that have worked there and the stories would make your head spin. Call me anything.... Sadam, Hitler, The Devil, OJ, but not a DJ from KXOJ. That hurts! :-X

JG-
My apologies if I came off a bit harsh. Jean & I worked together for quite a spell. Wonderful talent and a terrific find for any broadcast outlet. I will always treasure the memory of our trip together with Sunny to Manhattan, NY. What a whirlwind trip and what a lifetime of memories because of that trip. Sorry Journal if I hurt your feelings. I am probably a little bitter over a lot of things stemming from my employment at JBG. I appreciate your sentiments, but for me to ever consider coming back, the GM would have to triple my salary. Thank you for your kind words about me and Coop. Best of luck to all you guys and gals at JBG.

The Lyin' King,
Bob O'Shea

G Thompson: it's at least partially my fault he went off on KXOJ employees. I was the one who compared him to KXOJDJ, a comparison only true in that they both claim to work for places they don't (as I understand it. What a goofy masquerade ball this board is!). He has a wisdom & understanding of the biz I'll admit to not having seen in KXODJ's posts... it may be there, I just haven't seen it.

...and since the general agreement is KXOJDJ isn't a... well... KXOJ DJ... I technically WASN'T comparing him to a KXOJ DJ... loll... ;D

I'm glad your experience at KXOJ was good. I understand it is a much, much different place than it was a decade or two ago. My experience was not as pleasant, and in talking to others who worked there it appears I had it good / didn't get the "full treatment."

I will disagree with the "Jim Jones cult" comment, though... my co-workers there were all extremely nice, down to earth kinds of people. A lot of talent has passed through those doors over the years... most of them haven't stayed. I have always hoped KXOJ's potential would be realized, and it seems in the past decade or so, perhaps it has.

I wish them no ill will, but (at the risk of having to eat these words some day), I would NEVER go back.

You were one of the best to pass through their doors; they should have done whatever it took to hold on to you. A bonus: you would have still been in town! :)

Jean, I worked with you at Clear Channel forever and have always respected you. It's been a pleasure to work with and to compete against you. I'm sad to see you go but can really relate to your love of Colorado! I tell my wife all the time that the mountains are where I want to retire one of these days. I go every chance I get. Congrats on the marriage too! I wish you all the best and know that someone of your caliber will have no problem relocating.

I know you are here until April but I wanted to post this now so I don't miss the chance.

One for the resume site:

Jean is one of the most talented individuals to work at JBG. Major market talent without the ego. Loved by sales and programming. I had heard his work but didn't have a chance to meet him until we shared the same break room. Some station is about to have a very talented invividual join their team and that guy is Jean. I wish you the best and continue to do what you love to do.

O'Shea=you really are one of the best. 99.5 has a void without your golden tones in front of the microphone. I hope someday you will consider coming back not only for the benefit of your fellow employees but for the good of Tulsa radio.

Coop=do you have a regular shift? would like to catch you sometime on the radio.

KXOJ Dude=sorry if I offended you. You are probably a great guy. My guess is that if you had your way, things would be different at the Cityplex. That station once was a great institution and many talented people have passed through the doors. Not fair to judge all based on the actions of one or two suits.

A good weekend to all.

Hey Matt! Thanks for the kind words buddy! I've always enjoyed knowing you and working with you.
JournalGuy...Thanks man. I hope someone else thinks that way and offers me a gig in Colorado. If not in radio...well...I don't know...I've done this for a long time. I'll start practicing my line..."Would ya like fries with that?"
I'll see you all around town over the next 6 months.

Jean

Weekends have been a little unsettled lately, but next weekend I go back to my regular show form 10a to 3p on Saturday and Sunday. I'm also doing PM drive M-F in the interim since Samantha left.

I'll check you out Coop. Spending a few days in Dallas for the OU/Texas thing. (I refuse to talk about the game)

Dallas radio is not very good BTW. Been listening since Friday and there is nothing GREAT to report back to Tulsa.
We all know that Tulsa has better radio than OKC. I am starting to think that Tulsa radio is better that Dallas Radio.
Here for a few more days. Maybe something will grab my attention.

Off to drink away my Sooner sorrows.

The official notice is out for what we knew about Brutha Jean. Here is the letter he spoke of in his earlier posting. Jean, I hope you find the right job for you. Congrats to you and Karla! May you have a happy life together. You're a talented production talent and a heck of an actor too! Any radio, production or television outlet would be lucky to have you. And YES...you can quote me.

KVOO Family,
Someone once said that the only thing in life that's guaranteed not to change, is that everything in life changes. That is what is happening in my life and I wanted to share it with those of you who have written and called wondering- where's Jean.

As you may have heard us talk about on the air, I am getting married later this year to a wonderful woman. It is a change I am very excited about. Karla and I have decided that we would like to relocate to Colorado where we can enjoy the outdoors and do the things that make us both happy. I have an employment agreement with KVOO until April of next year, at which point I will leaving KVOO. As I prepare for this move, and the next phase of my career, KVOO is allowing me to focus on different areas of the broadcast business that will prepare me for my next challenge. I will still be heard delivering traffic reports each morning, supporting Gary and Sunny, and appearing with them at station events. I will also be taking part in various website, and sales training initiatives that I think will benefit me in the long run.

The last 4 1/2 years have been some of the best years in my life! You have made this happen and I thank all of you very much! Working with Andy and Sunny helped make this a dream-come-true job! Now, I must prepare for the next chapter in my career.

Keep in touch! I'll need some good advice over the next several months! Like we've always said."The smartest people on the Morning Show are the ones listening to it!"

I love you all and thanks for giving me such a great job!
Jean

Jalopeno: isn't that green, thin and short?

Only if you're using your jalepeno as a base line. Or maybe you've confused the jalepeno pepper with the shriveled up little chili pepper you see in Coney Island hot sauce bottles. Either way, the mighty jalepeno does not depend on size alone, although mine may well be a freak of nature. Rather, it's the fire in the tip that keeps'em coming back to Unce Bob's hot dog stand! ;)

Mr. O, you are correct...I guess the freudian slip occurred..."shriveled up" puts me instantly in mind of you.

Coop and Bob-O, re: jalapenos (Arkie spelled hollow penis) ... you guys, CUT THAT OUT!!! Might be funny to some of the folks who risk electrocution every time they put on their earphones. But for my generation, it's just a spiteful reminder that Tennis Elbow is our only S-T-D. ;D

Scoots: I consider myself duly upbraided. Thanks for contributing your small part to this discussion.

Ok Bob, Scooter, Cooper...I'm way late on reading this, but I have to say that it serves the public interest, convenience and necessity to have a warning about Uncle Bob's Hot Dog Stand Wiener(s). It might even warrant a special "Amber Wiener" alert.

Amber is standing by and ready for immediate response.
