Our pre-historic friend is corrrect: The reality is that while many quote 12+ numbers all day, Millenium this is for your edification mostly, 12+ means very little it is essentially a vanity number. Every station is niched as Neanderpol stated, so if you're targeting persons between the ages of 25-54 your 12+ number will most likely not be too high but your billing (ad $$$$$) WIll be and in the end that is what it is all about. That is what ratings are there or to set ad rates , end of story.

I don't know if WKXS has that type of sales force but so far they seem like they are getting decent or better ad play but they play the worst psa for the slots where there are no ads....AAR's feed has gotten significantly better as well. I agree that the stations ad revenue depends on the agresssiveness and "push" of the sales team to sell and sell some more. Good marketing helps and I dont see any of the CC stations doing a signficant amount of marketing so far...

My point is that RADIO people who go and distort what they know are wrong to do so. If the poster is consistent, then fine. The example of the poster above is not....and the message is truly being distored beyond the norm. I think that should be pointed out.

Re: The new trend is here! 12+ ratings mean what?

I really wish that Millenium would stop putting so much politics into his postings.. it really ruins the fun of reading these postings... At least others hide any agenda, millenium doesn't even try.. I'm not saying I'm on one side or the other, that doesn't matter.. I just detest having to sift through political junk on a RADIO board... I'm going to start turning in every one of your posts that does this millenium.

I like to come home after a long day and catch up on the fun/interesting stuff that happened today in radio.. not read about someone's political beliefs.. there are thousands of forums for that.

Where's the post from millenium you're referring to? You responded to a totally different tangent.

Re: The new trend is here! 12+ ratings mean what?

Edification - now that's funny! Ed attempting to enlighten!

12+ are not vanity #s. They are very real for the smoke & mirrors game that radio stations have decided to play, extremely vague for those who believe in logic.

The only people who say that 12+ "means very little" are the stations who used to rule 12+ but because of an inability to keep the customer satisfied, have fallen from their lofty perch. The station most guilty of this needs realignment, and since Mr. Edification has been reluctantly retired, he can issue defensive posts on this page. A horse is a horse, of course of course...the famous Mr. Edification...

We fix it by getting rid of the Telecommunications Act of 1996.

Re: The new trend is here! 12+ ratings mean what?

If wishes were beggars horses would ride, or something like that...

TV Man - there are a lot of politics being thrown in everyone's face on these boards. And keep this in mind - I like Raccoon Radio - despite his Conservative leanings and his being upfront about them in most of his posts - but when the politics are on 96.9, Air America, WRKO, it becomes part of the conversation - for better or for worse

Trying to single me out won't change things. I'm a hardcore Progressive and proud of it. In light of the lies coming out of Washington on an hourly basis, the impact on radio is too big to ignore. What Michael Powell did, good case in point. Clinton might have put him on the FCC, but Bush allowed him to really disrupt radio as we knew it. So Politics play very much into our discussions, whether you & I like it or not. I'll just conclude it by saying if the men who really won the elections were in power, we would have more freedoms to talk, well, freely...and methinks radio would be more fun.
There wouldn't be an Elephant in the room at PBS. And that is something we should discuss.

Joe, you're just lost. I try to give you fact and you try to make everything personal and part of your conspiracy theory. Station demos are highly focused and that is why we have different demos in the first place such as 18-34 broken down in male and female, same with 25-54, 25-34 etc, it's all very exact for sales purpouses. SO in short 12+ really means very little, it is exactly what I said a vanity number. Yes it is great to have large 12+ numbers but there is not one station who sells based on their 12+ numbers....why? because that is not realistic to think that you're going to sell a BMW to a 12 year old now is it?.

Continue to generate all of the conspiracy theories that you like it's to be expected however I did nto invent arbitron and what it measures so let's not go off the deep end about it.

Yes which is astounding considering his complete lack of talent but more importantly it makes it even worse that he blew virtually every one by being either lazy, or an A-hole.
