the New Rewind 103.5/104.3

Not bad. Obviously not my demo. I would like to hear them add jingles and if they can do it in a fun sort of way. It's tough to put two signals in one jingle though.
It's too bad WCOL is using the CBSFM jingles. They'd be fun with this station.
And hey, may be add AT40 the 80's on Sundays from like 8-noon or something too!
Why not?

It is difficult to put two signals in a jingle, BUT Movin 100.3/96.5 does it by just saying "Movinnnn!" I'd do something like "Reeeewiind Columbusss. or "Columbus' Greatest Hits!! Reeeewiiiind!" I'm sure they'll figure something out. I know that TJ Holland isn't a jingle fan, that's why you don't hear 'em on Mix 1079. Any idea who's programming Rewind?

In that case, I would suggest using the call letters (the WODB calls can be preserved, IMO) and have the jingles go "Central Ohio's Mighty Rewind: WODB!"

I agree. 102.3 and 107.7 usually use only one set of call letters in their imaging. The only time you hear the second one is at the top of the hour.

Is TJ the one programming it?

Don't know for sure, but that would seem highly likely. I suppose a consultant could be involved as well, although it's my (unconfirmed) impression that Saga doesn't use them much.

Well, I won't say WHO told me, but TJ is control of Mix, but it seems to be that he has someone else programming that. Mix is half-ass programmed at times, though. It has gotten better! Florentino built it and they're working on it. Hopefully they just get someone to do Mix so they can focus on making Rewind sound amazing. Mix will always be the flanker. I think Rewind has a consultant and the library is based off of Cinci and Chicago, except Rewind Columbus doesn't play currents.

This post http://www.fmqb.com/article.asp?id=1899213 says they changed to 80s music:

[/quote]Smooth Jazz WJZA and Classic Rock WODB/Columbus make the switch to '80s Classic Hits as Rewind 103.5/104.3, Columbus' Greatest Hits.

Who would have thought this? I was going with Talk as my first choice... There may have been a clue for some of us because some people
have said their sister station, Hot AC 107.9 has been abandoning the 80s music over the last years or so. Also, the fact that they were planning on killing 104.3 would have been another clue as to their plans for a new music simulcast effort.

BTY, 104.3 is now back in Stereo. They don't depend on 104.3 to cover the entire market anymore with it's unique prior format of Big Hits.

A little off-topic but...I don't understand why so many stations are using the "rewind" brand. Who rewinds anything anymore?

That is right... I thought of the old wind up clocks... But you could buy them as late as the 70s and 80s as I recall... Are they still readily available?
They were reliable in case your power would go out and some people would use them for that very reason. That is not the case anymore with battery backup because they are as reliable as the old wind up clocks?

Was in town over the weekend and really enjoyed the new Rewind! I knew every song I heard (which I can't necessarily say about 106.7). Kudos to Saga for spicing up the radio landscape a bit.

Mix 1079 still plays 80s, and I thought they woulda killed 'em off, but sure enough, they're still there. I don't think Saga cares as much about station protection, as long as they're hitting those women!

Yeah, nothing like hearing songs (that you've already heard a million times) for that special one millionth and first time -- it really doesn't get any better than that.

They sure don't play the 90's and 00's that are reasonably frequent on Cincy's Rewind -- and even more so on Chicago's -- either.  Another difference is that Columbus' Rewind dips into some "cornier" stuff from the 70's that the other two essentially stay away from, such as plenty of Bee Gees, "Summer Nights" by Olivia Newton-John & John Travolta, and  Four Seasons.  Fortunately the latter category seems to fill only 2-3 slots an hour.

Interestingly, I've heard Chicago's reach back into the late 60's occasionally, e.g. "Na Na Hey Hey Kiss Him Goodbye" (of course that one has connections to the White Sox).  The only 60's I've heard on Columbus' Rewind is the essentially-era-less "Brown Eyed Girl."  BTW, One thing I miss when I listen to Chicago's Rewind is the Motown/Soul they used to play -- though I don't know if that would make sense for that station now.  If anything, Motown in small doses might be a better fit on Columbus' Rewind since it is trying to do double-duty as the local Greatest Hits station, and even uses that moniker.

As Tom Taylor's reminded in today's Taylor on Radio-Info, "Rewind" is a name, not a format.

BTW, I *do* agree that Rewind will probably take a bit of listening away from WSNY, although overall it will probably help the cluster to the extent possible with these weak signals (which isn't a whole lot).  It's also a MAJOR lost opportunity for Clear Channel, which could have hurt Sunny more -- AND served the market far better -- by switching 93.3 WLZT to a format like this instead of stubbornly persisting with a duplicative frontal attack that earns anemic ratings except around Christmas.  There would have been some overlap with the Brew, but nowhere near enough to offset the benefits.  Actually, with the hugely superior signal at 93.3 CC could still switch it to a similar format and keep Rewind from gaining any traction.

One more thing:  I spend a lot of time around Chicago, and I hear Bonneville's Rewind playing in workplace after workplace -- easily more than any other station, and loads more than CC's mainstream AC WLIT.  I know that's not a scientific survey, but it's so prevalent it's almost a little freaky.  A lot of those businesses may not even know the station's calls or handle, but the PPM doesn't care.

BTW, while I personally really like the change at 103.5/104.3, one thing I am sorry to see go is the Harmonic Lounge.

I'm not the right gender to be in the target demo, but I find it listenable about 80% of the time. As soon as an Andy Gibb, Abba or Bee Gees track comes on, I cringe. I have 3 words... Too much disco

I'll also edit to add:
We have 93.3, 94.7, 96.3, 103.5/104.3, 105.7, 106.7 and 107.9 all playing various 80s pop/rock in their playlists. This type of music must really be doing well in PPM, because we sure have enough of it here. You can probably scan the FM at any given time and hear a Def Leppard or Bon Jovi song somewhere.
