From what I've heard...
I have a lot of likes/dislikes mixed with a lot of concerns.
First of all, it is sad to see Smooth Jazz leave the Columbus market. It was around for 15 years, and though it got worse, it ran its course and survived longer than most. Unfortunately, that format is not a PPM player and is dying slowly. Believe it or not, there are a lot of smooth jazz fans still. Smooth Jazz has a lot of loyal listeners, and those listeners could pick up Sirius XM or begin listening to CD's.

Two signals to hear it which could help build the audience
They're risky enough to try a niche format! That's two niche formats in the last month.
This is a format that could potentially bring listeners to that signal AND can sell well

No jingles
This is going to be a major issue with Sunny in the building. Mix can co-exist, but Sunny!? hmm... I get AC across the board isn't doing all that well. I've heard 933 in offices more than Sunny 95, but still, neither producing the numbers AC should have. This is Adult Hits with an AC feel and will just steal occasional listeners from Sunny 95. However, maybe Saga wants all of the women listeners. If they don't like what's on Sunny, time for Rewind. Want it more current? Check out our Adult CHR, Mix 1079. So other than Sunny, this station's competition is 933 and Classic Hits 1039.
The music is too soft to co-exist with Sunny. I'm hearing people say rhythmic-leaning oldies and what not, but that's not what I'm hearing. I hear a few rhythmic surprises, but I haven't heard any Young MC or Technotronic type tunes. This station is MORE gold based than Rewind in Cinci. Cinci will throw in the 90s and 00s for flavor mixed with the 80s. Also, they use Feel Good Favorites from the 80s and More. Rewind Columbus is using Columbus' Greatest Hits which technically implies classic hits/oldies like WGRR. I understand that Bonneville owns the others, but Rewind Columbus is using the same logo and same voicegirl. I'd at least use the "feel good" moniker somewhere. If I were them, more rhythmic oldies. If you liked Star 1079, Rewind is the station for you!
They should overlap dry sweepers overtop the intros, but this is the first day. We'll see what they do imaging/jingles-wise.
Concerns
This has such potential, but there is a lot of competition. The women already have 933, Sunny, WNCI, Magic 98.9, The Brew, Mix 1079 ALREADY which are women-targeted AC formats. Most of these have good signals.
They have two singles, but both at 4200 watts, one going more north, the other south. They do cover Columbus, but it's not the easiest to pickup on an analog radio. It's not as bad as I thought though!
The biggest concern, besides it being a direct competitor to Sunny is that Saga is going to let it slip like they do with Mix. They need to push it like Cinci did. The biggest key to Rewind is that it's going to need to do TV promotion, billboards, and have live and local jocks w/ remotes. Likely? No. Jocks? Possibly, but tracked. If they want this to work, it's going to need to be done right. A format like Smooth Jazz and Hot AC can sit and build cume because of the popularity of the format. In fact, I feel like Rewind is the type of station to go to if nothing is on if you're already a loyal listener of Sunny or 933. With the right music selection, Rewind could grab its loyal crew though. This format here will need to take time to build. If Saga lets this sit around, they're not going to see the results they want. Cinci and Chicago have the tools including a good signal, Columbus, not so much.
We shall see! Things are surely getting interesting here! Rewind was the last thing I was expecting to get dropped on 1035, PLUS 1043!
