The "NEWS" Station?

As I was driving around today.....I heard the President on WBAP.....and as I dialed around....the "NEWS" station wasn't carrying a press conference on the war in Iraq?? Is it any wonder....they always fail and the last trend WBAP was crushing them???

A sad state of affairs if you ask me (which you didn't....but I told you anyway)

Considering WBAP is a bastion of conservatism of course they will carry George's "mispronunciations" news conference. The press conference on Iraq was just like so many others on it,just dust one off and its the same, just a different date and time. On a slow news day it would be "Newsworthy".Today for WBAP it was filler and fodder for their talk show lineup.

I agree. Bush has so little to say that is newsworthy. Impeach!!!

I just KNEW the appologists would come out of the woodwork to bash WBAP and cry for KRLD....and KPLEX I figured you would lead the pack.....and didn't fail me! Congratulations!!!

From what I remember.....WBAP carried ALL of Clinton's speeches also.....so where was the bastion of conservatism then?

And also....isn't the President "news"...no matter what political party? Shouldn't the news station....always carry news????

Or am I just a big dreamer????

Paul - yes there was a Q and A.....and BAP carried the whole hour.

KERA 90.1 also carried the press conference live.

No question. KRLD should have as well.

Gotta love gpzyzyzf, he believes in the labeling if you have an opposite opinion. Yeah KRLD SHOULD have played it. BTW gpzyzyzf, Did not always play Bill's News conferences. They used "sound bites' a lot to feed into Mark,(Gary,Chris's) shows back then. KERA the bastion of "Liberals",sic> did play the news conference,as pointed out. So relax, the heat is getting to you.

No labels from me KPLEX.....unlike your ramming of WBAP in the earlier post. And I find it amusing that NOW you are saying KRLD should have carried it...when your original post....was all about the rantings and ravings of Mark Davis, Rush et al....and how WBAP was just carrying the party line (to paraphrase)

It just cracks me up (have been around on here since early 2001) how the hate for some stations just keeps coming....no matter what they do. It's either a political thing for people....or just a frustration by them....cause they aren't working there....or just aren't working.

Right .."no labels" Your statement above comes close to contradicting that. I didnt mention "rantings and ravings about Mark". I said before I like Mark. I just disagree with him ,that's all.

Wow you have been here 6 years and you have the market sized up about the people who have worked in the market plus those that ARE STILL WORKING IN THE MARKET. Are you a consultant? It takes a "little" know how to be one.. It's not a "political' thing to criticize . Hell you did it about KRLD,so are you a GOP cheerleader? FYI,there are those who still work in "da biddness" ,in the "da market",who can still comment ,criticize and exercise an opinion. Some still have a passion for radio, that is sorely lacking for the most part anymore.

KPLEX...you wrote "Right .."no labels" Your statement above comes close to contradicting that"....coming close...is still not a contradiction....words do mean things. And whether you "like Mark" or not...is your opinion. From the things I have read on here from you regarding WBAP, Mark, Rush or conservatives in general....I would disagree with you. Perception on my part...is reality.

And how long one has been in the market....doesn't mean I can't have an opinion or have a feel for what the market is doing. I'm not a consultant....nor do I play one on TV.

Again, wanting facts to be straight...I didn't criticize KRLD in a political way as you wrote....I criticized the "news" station for not carrying the news....it had nothing to do with left or right....it has to do with doing what is "right" and carrying a Presidential press conference is the right thing for a news station to do. It seems like quite a few folks on here like to rip WBAP when they fall short of following through for the "public airwaves"....right or wrong (EAS to provide an example).....and I just thought it only "fair" to point out when I think they actually did the right thing....as opposed to the "news" station.

I'll jump into this pit bull battle and give my thoughts.

Considering it was just a conference, as opposed to a major
speech or announcement, I probably would have skipped it too,
but given the outline of it in a news report, or better yet, just let
the network news summarize it at the top of the hour. If it was
something OTHER than Iraq, I probably would
have run it, because it would have been something DIFFERENT
he was talking about. His problem is he ASSUMES every
Americans thoughts are on Iraq, and if they are not, well by God,
they SHOULD. Well, old George needs to get a clue that
Iraq IS NOT the most important thing on a lot of peoples
minds. And yes, there are those that frankly don't give a crap
about Iraq, or what is happening there. He automatically ASSUMES
that every American is behind his "war" effort, "ramping up the troops"
blah, blah, blah.... .

Bush up on the Iraq stump again is nothing new. As PLEX stated it's
a broken record of every other news conference Bush has ever
given on the situation. It's all "I'm King, I do nothing wrong, and
all you naysayers are full of $%^!" mentality. His arrogant Texan
self shines through every time.

Just count how many times he says "It's hard", "We're on the hunt"
"these are killers and dangerous people".

Yeah, we know Dubya... You've beaten it into our heads
a thousand times ::)

Anyone notice the real irony and not of significance in this morning's press conference? For the first time in ages ... and the press corp reacted with an audible gasp ... President Bush went to the dean of the press corp ... Helen Thomas of Hearst for the first question today.

It was something that Thomas has done for many many years and administrations, until she was "cut off" from asking questions in the Bush presidency some years ago. They avoid her like the plague.

Today was different...and revealing.

All I can say about KRLD is that - New Years Eve, Dec 31, 2000 - I was driving into North Texas from Lubbock, and there was a LIFE THREATENING ice storm in progress. Even the news stations in Houston were on the air every few minutes warning people not to attempt to drive to North Texas. I saw about 50 of those big 4 wheel drive vehicles in the ditch along HWY 380 - they probably didn't slow down. I went about 10 - 20 mph and barely made it home. BUT - where was KRLD with important news and announcements during that period? They were not live. They were playing pre-recorded talk shows. I found out later it was so they could all attend a New Years Eve party and probably get drunk.

At the first sign of trouble - that party should have been called off, or at least a couple of senior staff members called in to get on the air about the weather! I have personally sat in a studio with a tornado less than a mile away, bearing down on the station - giving out vital information, because THAT is what a RESPONSIBLE broadcaster does - stay on the air until the station goes off and HELP SAVE LIVES.

My pushbutton has not been on KRLD since. It is a sad commentary when KTRH Houston does a better job of covering Dallas weather than KRLD.

There's no such thing as "just a conference" with Bush, because he shows up for so few. Clinton didn't do many, either. I think you have to carry it. Especially if you want to be known as the "news station."

Heck, we live in a town where our two sports stations have shut everything down for the last four years whenever Bill Parcells gave a press conference. And we're sitting here debating whether a once-in-a-blue-moon Presidential press conference warrants live coverage on a news station?

Good point, considering its usually "rehashed" during their saturday "fireside chat" speeched on radio.

As for the 2000 icestorm coverage by KRLD. Yeah unexcusable, HOWEVER things have changed for the better. For example the May-June storms, had extensive coverage on KRLD,while the "lets bash the demos" marathon was played on WBAP

No question. KRLD should have as well.

It's as simple as that. Unless you believe that Ernie & Jay's b.s. is more important than the President and the update on the Iraq war.

Hmmm, Ernie and Jay's BS or Dubya's BS. Tough decision....

Glad I'm not a PD or News Director ;)

KPLEX - you put in a previous post: As for the 2000 icestorm coverage by KRLD. Yeah unexcusable, HOWEVER things have changed for the better. For example the May-June storms, had extensive coverage on KRLD,while the "lets bash the demos" marathon was played on WBAP

Now you know this is not true. I can cite for example at least one day where WBAP blew out all three hours of Hannity (top basher of demos) to go live and local and take calls from listeners AND reporters in the field. And in fact....there was a previous posting on here about the weather...where you were caught by another poster admitting you didn't even LISTEN to WBAP that day....but took the time to rip them for their "poor coverage".

Your bias is showing my friend. Let's try and play "fair" as much as we can!!!
