The Return of KTIB-AM 640 ?

Around 12:00 on Feburary 7, 2007 KTIB's transmitter was activated but no program was on. At 15:11 (3:11 pm) oldies on the air, hopefully this will last for a long time for an area with no oldies outlet. 8)

The transmitter must be in testing as the station is currently off the air again 9No sign of the transmitter at 10:05pm (22:15 CST).. Or at least I can't pick up anything from my locale.

The oldies were standard 60s-70s fare ... Tix-fm is oldies but it's an eclectic oldies station...

That and KTIB is meant for the bayou area and Tix's signal is questionable at times in the area compared to when WTKL was oldies in 2005.

TIX-FM is operating via an STA from the 1000' master FM antenna on Old Behrman Highway. Reduced power vs the regular signals, but still a great signal for greater New Orleans. I understand that they have a long way to go in rebuilding their main tower and building down in West Pointe a la Hache.

Thanks RFLA;
When I made the post I didn't think about stating the Tri-Parrish area. at 06:30 the transmitter is still on( was on all night with dead air) but no programing. Maybe they are testing,(it was shut down for over a year) could be a one man operation trying to get the computers on line again till they can get back on their feet again. Anyway it is nice to see KTIB back on the air.

Hello everyone,
I may be able to help out on some of the KTIB information. A friend of mine once had affiliation with them and according to the local Thibodaux newspaper, the station for now is broadcasting all oldies music commercial free until Monday morning when they are to go on the air live in-studio with the new beginning since being off the air for some 21 months due to problems stemming from previous ownership's internal squabble.
My understanding is the station will periodically play oldies music but will have morning locally based talk shows, then air via satellite Moon Griffion, Rush Limbaugh (even though WWL'S signal carries that show), and in the evenings Michael Savage. Weekend sports and music are also scheduled. People returning to the station from the previous shutdown are Gene Richard, Al Carter, and Johnny Percle.
Once again Monday Morning around 6-7am they should go on the air live to announce all of this. The new owner is Mr. George Laughlin..a native of Metairie, who has been living in Dallas and once worked for Radio One.
This is his first radio station that he owns by himself.
Take care.
Vanessa

Thanks Vanessa and the source was probably this news paper article in Thursday's edition of the Thibodaux Daily Comet. http://www.dailycomet.com/apps/pbcs.dll/article?AID=/20070208/NEWS/702080305/1013 (registration may be required)

On my radio, Gp, For some reason I didn't catch no carrier when I checked at 10pm Wednesday That's why I posted what I did. Now if they were adjusting and brought it back up..Don't know

Currently 50s-70s (range when I sampled was about 1958-about 1975 if I remember my music) with IDs occasionally.

And WCJ, nope.. even though they promise religion on Sunday, What you probably heard was WCRV which runs 50kw days from Memphis,Tn. and fooled a lot of people when talk was going on that KTIB was being sold to some religious people. (as it can be heard sometimes around dawn and dusk even in Thibodaux when KTIB is off)

KTIB should be heard over half of South Louisiana ( I know it came in before it shut down in Alexandria)

About the "religious programming" heard over the 640am frequency a few days ago, you are correct on the Memphis station. But one piece of insight...back in the spring of 2005, Wilkins radio of South Carolina was in talks to buy KTIB until the internal squabble amongst the previous ownership group really started to get heated....there were legally barracades put up to prevent Wilkins radio from buying the station, etc. Wilkins decided to wait and see how long the rangling would occur, which would being well over a year, so Wilkins backed out of buying the station.
Thibodaux is a great little city and I just hope the new ownership takes care of the studios & the station in general.

i sure am glad they were fighting. we dont need another dollar a holler down here!!

Yep I remember it.. Big write up in the local papers as one owner said they were still in the deal, the other said they wasn't when they found out the whole situation (and I expect many more lawsuits between Bruno,Treen, and Starr for many years to come as there is/was an issue if the station could be put into bankruptcy the way it was done).....

KTIB was originally a religious station and will be apparently on sundays under Gap (or at least Sunday morning) .. He is apparently a native of the area and is definitely putting money into the studios (and will be in to the transmitter to satisfy some issues with it) but apparently he is bringing in some name talent to the area on am... Having Rush I think may help him...

But I agree on the dollar a holler.. too many of them..

And I know Thibodaux is a great city.. I live in the Bayou region:)

I heard it was playing religious programing when it first went on the air back in 1953, but I remember hearing country music when it was still on 630 from a 500 watt transmitter located in Gray, La.

Oh! BTW I went to plaqumines parrish the other day and saw the 'TIX tower. the main power lines are still not repaired, and the corps is still repairing the levee( apperantly an issue with access to the site because of the corps working on the levee). I could not see the x-mitter shack, so I guess Dr Tech was right; Iguess the fcc allowed them a power upgrade on a backup transmitter.

Some good points on KTIB,
According to a special the station ran on it's 50th anniversary, Dec.24, 2003, it was stated the station originally went on the air with a variety of music, including religious music plus some popular hits and country songs. One week after signing on, Leroy Martin was hired to be their weekend personality and for 30 years he offered the best of popular music plus country and local artists/cajun bands.
I think the tower in Gray was eventually moved to northwest of Thibodaux in 1986 when the FCC let them go to 5000 watts daytime/1000 night.
Like a lot of people, I hope the station is basically taken care off. Hopefully we won't see the station be mistreated again.

Is this station suppose to reach NOLA? I can't seem to pick it up

Unfortunately the signal starts to fade around the east side of boutte maybe no a clear day you could get it in N.O. East but with WVOG(600) and WIST ( The old WTIX)690 sandwitching it, it may be a hard catch

SEEMS LIKE ITS GOING TO BE THE SAME OLD C**P....ALSO THE BIG SPLASH SEEMS LIKE A PUDDLE INSTEAD..WHERE ARE THE JOCKS?
ALL I HEAR IS DUMAS DOING LINERS...THEN THEY HIRE LINDA B???????

nocajunmoon;
Remember the station was shut down for over a year so the music is from pre recorded tapes. Also the transmitter needed to be readjusted and repaired, the same for the STL link. And with the studios being remodled, sattelite recivers upgraded, and new equipment installed it may take a few days for the station to be back at 100%, so they are replaying old recordings. I forgot to ask them if they will go back to am stereo and if they will bring back Louisiana Jukebox.

I had heard through the grapevine that KTIB will start their in-studio & satellite feed shows on Ash Wednesday. There was a delay from its scheduled start due to glitches that apparently are being discovered as they renovate.
I was pleasantly surprised that one of their former talk show hosts...Al Carter will be back in the 4PM hour weekdays. Tremendously down to Earth guy.
I just hope the station overall will be managed well and there's not another repeat of the collapse that led to their shutdown for some 21 months.
I also heard Greg Dumas' voice doing new promos along with another voice that I'm not familiar with. Greg was really good doing the morning show (6-7 am before Dialogue) there with that weather guy whose name I forget.
