The Return of The Eggman?

Where did Mike end up? I'm not in Charlotte but have an interest in Charlotte radio.

-409

I read on Allaccess.com a few weeks back that he was offering his services to stations across the country as an "off-site but on-line" Program Director, a consultancy of sorts. Mike feels he can do the music, write promos and do critiques and perform other programming functions without actually being in the station every day.

I wonder how that's working out. Sounds like a tough sell to me...

Hey Mike Sheridan,

Seems like you have an answer for everything!

We can agree to disagree.

1. In my opinion, Jim Shafer rules as the best Radio Host, announcer, personality, etc. in the format in this market.

2. "The stations' almost match song for song". What about Lite102.9s' "Flashback 70's & 80's Weekends" & the "Disco Inferno" w/Jim on Fri. afternoons? That's music variety! Is K1047 programming anything special like that on weekends?

3. Do Holly & you agree on everything?

I can't answer for Mike, but we see eye to eye on quite a bit. I did not comment on Schaefer as I have not listened to him, so I don't agree or disagree on that topic. Furthermore there are many jocks with incredible talent and I would never be able to title one "the BEST".

Believe it or not, Mike and I are rarely in the building at the same time. I see him a few times a year...but we do have a mutual respect for each other's resumes and stories of the way radio used to be. Of course Mike is older than me and been in the biz far longer, but we have worked for the same group a couple times now. I could say I am in agreement with most of the jocks I have worked with at CChannel or CBS as I am still in close contact with many of them.

We do not do any Flashback type weekend thing as of yet. I am not sure we will as the feedback on it is on the fence.

Why is it that every time I hear someone say Denver in a Charlotte context, I always think of the legal ID they used on The End a couple of times "WEND Charlotte-Dallas-Denver-Cleveland." Still cracks me up too. ;)
But their city of license is Salisbury. Unless they changed it to Cleveland, which wouldn't make sense unless they went back to that old tower.

The id was WEND Salisbury-Charlotte-Denver-Dallas.

This was back in the Dalton group days when 106.5 was a good station.

I'm not sure of what type of Flashback weekend was discussed, but if it would be similar to the Lite weekends, then having them really wouldn't make much sense. Unless it would be a 70's Flashback or a 60's/70's Flashback (maybe good to promote the new HD2 when it comes?), a Flashback weekend with 70's and 80's would be exactly the same as Lite.

I would guess that Lite listeners who don't want to deal with the heavy disco airplay on the weekends there are more than happy to flip over to K-104.7.

It would be even more variety if Lite had different theme weekends. Playing the same 70's and 80's songs every weekend is not really full of variety.

I remember Cleveland being in there too.
Whatever it was, it's what radio is missing these days. It still cracks me up. ;)

I think they were doing different theme weekends. I haven't checked lately though.

So, back to the return of the Eggman...

Egg, on April 19th, you were quoted as saying several companies were interested in your services. Has anything developed yet?

Who said that?

Well, I'm still waiting (gee, waiting for a job? in radio? THAT never happens) for an answer from the station I flew out to interview with. Meanwhile I may well have a different offer by the middle of the week.

Other than that and fielding phone calls from Donald Trump, life is pretty quiet.

We wish you the best Egg, hang in there!

It's not like the old days where the PD heard the tape, looked at your resume and the interview was just a formality. I had a couple of jobs where they told me I had it by the end of the interview! Ah those were the days!

Mike

Hey we should start a rumor it's going to be "Egg and Sherry" (missplling intentional....just kidding around) or how about john BOY & egg MAN? <get it?

Speaking of the old days, there was a station in Oklahoma City I did nights for...I went in and interviewed with the PD, who said "we'll let you know," then told a friend of mine who was the morning guy that I just "wasn't assertive enough." So I got the PD on the phone and invited him to let me pull a couple of hours overnight because (quoting my own self here) I could mop the floor with anybody he had on the air.

Came in the next night, pulled three hours, left a very nervous looking overnight guy, dropped the cassette under the PDs door, and was the night guy two days later.

Those days are long past...unfortunately. Remember when radio was so much fun that you'd do it for free if you had to?

Not that I'm sayin...but then, you know it's a possibility.

Matt, Evidently, you have not seen the DC Airport Lately!

Oh yes I have. I used to live right across from the NEW entrance. While it will handle anything Richard Childress flies, I doubt it would handle the 707's they use for commercial flights from places like Denver.

Had EggMan come in to that airport on one of those, he would have cracked up...probably on what used to be my front porch.

Oh yes I remember those days well. In fact I didn't speak to my best friend for months because he beat me to a gopher job at our local country station WGMA Hollywood, Florida. He used to get some trades and walked away with a ton of records but I don't think he got paid. What he did get was experience.

The first job I got in radio was the hardest. After that it was pretty easy. As for the jobs i didn't get, well much of the time it was for the best.

Mike

I'm not going to lie.
Before this thread, I'd never heard of The Eggman.
Didn't grow up in Charlotte, grew up too late, whatever the reasons were, just didn't happen.

But now I can tell that if you find someone named The Eggman, he needs a job in radio, because there is no other place a man can work and keep that nickname. It would be terrible to be called The Eggman and be working at a cell phone store, or a restaurant, or fixing computers, or any other place wayward radio people end up.

It would also be terrible to one day be called The Eggman and have that name disappear, gradually or spontaneously, from your name bank. The repercussions would be devastating in my mind.

Well he goes by Mr. Egg for people who don't know him...or Senor Huevo, or the Eggster, or Egginator...so his options really are limitless. Of course he could switch it to Scrambled Man or Hard Boiled Hottie, but those don't suit him quite as well.

Come on Egg...post a photo of that cute mug so we can show this guy how you got your name!!

Many moons ago there was a guy named Eggman on VH-1 in the morning. He was only there for a few weeks I think. Is that the same Egg?
