The River Runs Dry....

Just got this from Kitty on my Facebook page...

"NO more 100.7 The River for me as of today. They are "going in a different direction" is all they would say. I had a good 2nd radio run here & I will find another way to keep my Sunday Brunch & Chef Series alive! xoxox"

Saw that too... wonder what's up. The music is horrible now. I finally deleted them from my presets last week.

If 100.7 is going to take on a new identity as "The New WRDU," they need to have Blade sign the new format back on. ;D

Well, another reason to listen to "Radio 96.1". I'm not totally swearing off the station, but this really is making me listen to "Radio" quite a bit more. Hopefully, they pick Kitty Kinnin up.

OK: Format change timing predictions! I'm going for 3:00 today (which was about the time what WRDU kicked the bucket back in October 2006), or better yet, 10:07 tomorrow, for pun purposes!

I wonder if it will be sometime tomorrow. I really want to see mainstream rock brought back. 100.7 WRDU or 106.1 'RDU?

I don't know why people hate it. It's classic rock. Man I guess this really isn't a Rock market. I actually think it's the best station music wise in the Raleigh market.

Why because they play Metallica and '90s? They play Classic Rock. The River just caters to the younger demo but they are still Classic Rock.

Well, they didn't care enough to remove Kitty or any of her content from the website today.

Looks like it is indeed going away soon...

Yeah we can't keep a Rock Station around here. I wonder if they are moving the talk station over to 100.7 and then what will they put on 106.1?

Why move Talk off 106.1 and onto 100.7? The signals are almost the same and older listeners who listen to Talk aren't easy to switch around the dial. Fans of Rush already had to switch from 680 to 106.1. Now they'll have to switch to 100.7? For what reason?

I understand WRDU is long associated with Rock in Raleigh. So why not make 106.1 WTKK TalkRadio and move the WRDU call letters to 100.7 with whatever "different direction" they will take?

Well, I just threw "The River" on online (1:57 PM) , and they are playing "Wish You Are Here" by Pink Floyd, and it is the end of Brian Taylor's shift...... who knows? Maybe I'm looking too much into it, but still....

Edit at 2:04 PM: THe top of the hour only mentioned the calls. No mention of the "River" name at all.

Well, looks like the title of this thread just got ironic. As of 3:25 PM, they are announcing that "The river's dried up. Get more details Monday Morning at 9:00".

@ wOOt...

Can you expand on the reply, "they aren't even close anymore"?

According to the map on radio-locator.com, 100.7 has a slightly better signal to the east, taking in Greenville and Kinston, and the north, taking in Henderson. But both stations certainly cover Raleigh, Durham, Chapel Hill, Goldsboro, Rocky Mount, Wilson and Sanford well. That's the sales area that counts. Greenville and Kinston are in the Coastal North Carolina market.

And are you saying 100.7 and 106.1 were close at one time but not now?

Per this article from RadioInsight,http://radioinsight.com/blog/headlines/netgnomes/81331/call-change-leading-to-more-in-raleigh/, the domains 1007WRDU.com and WRDU1007.com have been anonymously registered and currently link to a GoDaddy park page.

OK: I'll bite on format predictions.

-They'll keep the current rock format, mock 96 rock for dropping the format, and drop the "classic" from the tagline.

-They could go back to oldies (like WMJI in cleveland), and take a few stabs at Kix 102.9 for it's less than stellar signal and the fact that they don't stream online.

-In Miami, the WSHE calls were brought back to launch a pop-based variety hits format. That could happen here, with WRDU taking a few stabs at WBBB's more rock based format.

If this were to happen, do you foresee them adding a bit of new rock as time goes on? All of your speculations seem pretty legit, but this one seems the most possible, but then again, April Fools Day is Monday, so who the hell knows what'll come of this.
