The Rock Format That Replaced Party 93.1 - Not Doing Any Better :)

As expected, the Rock format that's replaced Miami's Dance station in February, Party 93.1, is not doing any better. The writing was pretty much on the wall as Miami's previous Rock station Zeta 94.9 (a longtime heritage of the market)wasn't doing too hot. Zeta was replaced by a poorly executed Hurban, another station that's not delivering the kind of ratings some had hoped.
Miami's Mainstream CHR is also currently down to its lowest ratings pretty much EVER (!!!), and Power 96's ratings also aren't as dominating as they used to be.
Will this ratings environment entice one of Miami's station to add at least some/more Dance music back into regular rotation?

But remember, the money to be made is in the 25-54 demo and that's probably why they made the flip. Even if they are doing similar to Party 12+, they could be making more money on their in-demo sales. We won't know until the financials come out sometime early next year.

Interesting fact, did you know that between market #3 Chicago, and Market #2 LA, there is approximately a 600M+ in radio revenue? Chicago radio bills almost $665M a year and LA bills $1.2B! WOOWZERS!

93 Rock's sound is definitely geared more towards 18-34 males then it is towards 25-54 year olds.

Crazy isn't it? I believe L.A. bills even more then NYC, and has been the top revenue market for a few years now.

Are you talking about Metallica 93.1?
______________

Crazy, but certainly believable. With nearly every frequency on the FM dial occupied in SoCal, it's not hard to imagine the LA market collectively churning out that kind of revenue.

Well anyone could have guessed that the rock format wouldn't have done better than the dance. Who would want to hear rock in Miami?

Cox just can't get their act together there. When 93.1 was dance it was sad; the same songs for years.
______________

Haha, yeah. I remember when 98 Rock in Tampa also seemed to play Metallica everytime I turned them on. Metallica were amongst my favorite bands in the late 80s to mid 90s, and nobody can play the drums like that mofo, Lars Ulrich ;) Metallica doesn't exactly "scream" 25-54 year old demos ;)

To quote myself from a thread a while back:

Party 93.1 came and went because they set themselves up for failure at the outset... and not for the reasons that most people think. Yes, they did need to add more currents to their playlist, but they had the right idea to go heavy on the golds. The problem is, they went heavy on the wrong golds. Instead of Soft Cell's "Tainted Love" and the like, they needed to go more the route of 80's dance/rap tracks like Soul Sonic Force's "Planet Rock". They also relied too heavily on recurrents for much longer than they should have. Tiesto's "Traffic" was in regular rotation for most of the station's lifetime... and while South Florida is nostalgic about it's dance music, it's not so nostalgic that you can get away with playing a track that was a current three years ago every two hours.

If someone else came along and changed the things I mentioned, they could make a killing.
