The Show must go on!!!

You are correct. AM towers are best built in low, wet areas. But sometimes you have to build where you can afford to build. As you should have seen by now, land is not too cheap in the Thomasville area thanks to the some of the more elite of the population. Also, sometimes the FCC and the FAA do not give you a big area to put your tower in. I do not know the exact story of why WJEP was built where it was, but there could be any number of reason why.

Yes, I am still an engineer. I work for Cumulus in Savannah, GA and am also the regional engineer over the Cumulus stations in Albany.

Robert thank you for your honest forthwright answers. I just wish there were more like you around here. A good engineer is hard to come by and you seem like one that any station would be lucky to have and they should give you a raise!!!

This aggression will not stand, man.

Power still not restored at station, this might take awhile, tons of rain from this, plus the whole area around the station is without power...stay tuned...

I do not know. I just made my 10th call to Georgia Power and they had no update on when power would be restored to us. The neighbor of the station lost power at the same time as us and still is in the dark as well. Our location out in the Boonies most likely has something to do with it. It might make sense for us to get a city of license change and get the station moved into town to be on Thomasville Utilities. My experience with Georgia Power is, well let's just say I cannot endorse their company for quality, and they are too big and do not care about their customers or public safety based upon my dealings with them.

I can't pick up WPAX at any time, but these Thomasville stations were/are off today:
WSTT 730
WHGH 840

In Tallahassee and surrounding area:
WCVC 1330 off - power outage
WHBT 1410 off - power outage

WGWD-FM 93.3 in Quincy is also off

Thanks for the update Alan...Still no power at our end either. Should I just start sending the bill for make goods to Georgia Power now? LOL, sounds like an insurance claim, or possibly FEMA???

We finally got Georgia Power to restore power. It only took them 44 HOURS!!!! Now, that is service, LOL. We are back streaming on the internet and the new crystals are going in our new transmitter. Next we need a reliable engineer so we are looking outside the area. THE SHOW WILL GO ON !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

New crystals in your new transmitter? I don't know how to tell you this Dude, but "new" transmitters don't use crystals. In fact, transmitters haven't used crystals, for over 30 years.

The used backup transmitter I just bought uses crystals

Actually they do, even if it is a PLL. Typically they don't need to be changed though when changing frequency.

This is a major frequency change and it can't hurt to put new parts in whenever possible

All right fine. Bashing aside. When IS this station of yours gonna be on the air and when is all the talk radio programming gonna become intact???

You also said you plan on using some FM repeaters. Any word on that and what frequency or frequencies???

Yeah, I can't wait to hear it so I can give my honest opinion. I'm SURE it'll be the best thing since Rush Limbaugh.
