Sincere? You're kidding! It sounded like there was a gun pointed at Joe directly out of camera range. It was an attempt to save his butt.

I guess I should have put the "speaking only for me" part of my previous post at the beginning of that post. I'll repeat, I am no fan of reading bad wire copy.

Yeah well I went to Valley View...you can probably get to five before I can. No need to get defensive. I bet if you did a per person word count you would find there aren't five people "fighting for air time".

The Nexstar management that approached us with the idea is no longer in place but I assure you, they're input at the time consisted of "how 'bout we put a camera in your studio and you guys will be on the TV and our guys (Phil Yacuboski and Stacey Weaver) will be on the radio every morning? They do it in other markets!". "People in the News" wire copy came about in the absence of content.

Your segment has the potential to be such a killer. I think you and Jay are bitingly funny at times, and I wish that spark came across on TV. Nexstar, unfortunately, has found a way to produce bad radio and bad television simultaneously.

Geez, Nigel, take a chill-pill.

I for one like Snedeker and his presentation of the weather. He presents the weather with some schtick and I for one actually think he gets the idea across. If I had to get the weather from the likes of Sweeney, I'd never know what the heck it would be like outside. I never saw a more non-committal weathercaster in my life; as for "Josh Hodell," if he weren't a meteorologist, he'd make a perfect used car salesman (sorry to all of you sales guys).

As far as the bits being old, it, that goes back to the whole audience issue--they seem to like it. It's been working for Frankie for umpteen years.

YONK
You aren't alone. I had the very same experience. And it's worse when you go there for lunch with Jay & John.
As for Mr. Nigel Wick-----why all the anger?? Why get into a pi**ing match with John?? When you're in broadcasting you do what you're called upon to do. What would you do if you were thrown into a 3-minute spot on television right in the middle of your morning radio airshift?? And don't tell me you would fight it. I did that ONCE and the next day there was a new guy in my place. I've never done mornings (outside of an occasional newscast when the regular news reader called off sick) but I don know these guys have enough to do for a regular SHOW let alone the intrusion of a television spot right in the middle of things as well. If you've ever walked the walk, you would realize this. I don't see anyone else criticizing.

It's Across the Street From Coney Island (The Better Of The Two) In The 500

Block Of Lackawanna Ave. I Only Remember Being There Once ...

And I Left In The Same Condition! ... I Still Miss Pete Bordi's !!!!

I Sent A Washington Post Reporter That Was in Town Covering The Gary Hart

Campaign Train Trip From Scranton To Wilkes-Barre There In '84.

He Wrote A Feature Story About Bordi's That Ran In The Post A Few Weeks Later.

Schmid:

No anger, just a discussion with Mr. Webster, who I like a lot. By the way, I've walked the walk.

Greetings, and a happy day to you.

Blah, Blah, Yadda,Yadda,Yadda...
Sneddicker is an idiot anyway (and the only reason he's there is because of RATINGS!!!) she should have been fired on the spot for being "unprofessional".
Lets face it folks the "family" only cares about ratings. Everything they do is related to ratings. Granted in our business we too do things for ratings, but they are just blatant about it.
My Gosh, look at all the free publicity they are getting...just look at this thread.

Snedeker

Snedeker should have never come back to television. He should have stuck with
"teaching" his college classes. The guy is a circus act. People in the area are sick and tired of his "game." It's really old. When I worked at WBRE, I couldn't stand WNEP. I still can't. But I will admit I do watch the newscasts from their website. Even though I haven't lived in the area for almost four years, I'm still somewhat interested in what's going on up there...also to check out the bargain basement talent they have now. I think Snedeker should have been suspended or dismissed for his off-color, unprofessional comments. He's the biggest joke on television in modern history. I hope WNEP management reads these messages and will really see how viewers feel. Yes, the ratings show people are watching, but they are only watching out of force of habit...and also because the viewers really don't have any other television news alternative...considering Nexstar ruined WBRE and WYOU.

Shawn, you're usually right on the money, but you're a bit off the mark this time.

I'm tired of Snedker's act, and so are a lot of people. But, NEP's morning numbers are still huge.

Managment shouldn't make decisions based on internet message boards.

I'm sure some research is underway as we speak.

Also, Snedker taught middle and high school. He was never a college professor.

I will agree with you in that he should be fired.

Well once again I am in the minority on this board.
I still think he presents the actual weather with some accuracy and a little scientific stuff behind it besides just the forecast. And, let's face it, weather is boring, it needs some bite. OK, soap box off.

Fired?? What about the stunt pulled a few years ago BHT, where they "promised" Britney Spears and delivered a doll? I don't recall anyone getting fired over that. Besides, I do agree that ratings are no. 1; so short of presenting the weather naked, I doubt anyone is getting fired anytime soon.

Here's your yadda yadda yadda....The Times-Tribune and CV are all part of the "news alliance" with WYOU and WBRE, of course they're going to side against WNEP. BTW, WYOU and WBRE ratings have been in the basement far long before Nexstar got involved.

I really don't mind weather with a lighter touch, but Snedeker goes way too far. It's silly and it's juvenile.

I don't see Snedeker's antics and the BHT stunt as being on the same level. One was a game played by whacky morning DJ's. The other was presented during an allegedly legitimate newscast.

I found the CV/TT reporting of the incident, which I happened to see, to be fairly accurate. Thursday morning's TV column contained a jajor error. The writer said WNEP made the audience wait til 6 am Monday for the apology when it was first delivered at 5 am. Check your facts.

Re: Snedeker, The News Alliance, etc.

Yes, WBRE's and WYOU's ratings were bad before Nexstar bought both stations. But Nexstar has done NOTHING to even ATTEMPT to get the ratings up. Nexstar moved in and destroyed what was left of both stations. It's sad, but nothing has changed to this day either.

The Citizen's Voice and the Scranton Times reported the facts of the Snedeker/Supon incident. They were not siding with WBRE, WYOU, or the "News Alliance" garbage. I fail to understand how the newspapers reported the story just to be on the "side" of Channels 22 and 28.

Some time ago, both newspapers reported on the arrest of Jeff Holloway, who was a news photographer at WBRE. Mr. Holloway is currently imprisoned on child porn charges. WBRE, WYOU, and both newspapers aforementioned reported that story. They didn't hide any facts, despite Mr. Holloway was employed by WBRE at the time of his arrest. However, I do not recall WNEP reporting that story...and I'm surprised they didn't!

With those two examples given, I do not understand how you feel the newspapers just reported the story to make WNEP look bad...and to side with WBRE and WYOU. My opinion is Mr. Snedeker made WNEP look bad by opening his big mouth and inserting his foot.

Re: Snedeker, The News Alliance, etc.

The newspaper is looking to sell newspapers and ads in them. Period. They have no allegiance to WBRE/WYOU the likes of which has been suggested here...that they would print a story that they'd hope would cast WNEP and Snedeker in a negative light in hopes of advancing the power and credibility of the "News Alliance". The "News Alliance" name is merely a name that sounds more noble than calling it what it really is, "The Cross-Promotional Opportunity".

My guess? If WNEP approached the newspaper about joining or even replacing the other TV stations in the "News Alliance"? They'd dive at it!

My guess is that 22/28 got the better of the deal. It seems like the stations get more from the newspapers than the newspaper gets from the television stations. There is one exception. Have you seen the newspaper reporters and editors who wind up on the screen? They're terrified and add nothing to the broadcasts. I'm sure they're all very competent newspaper workers, and they should stick to print.
