It's too bad, really. They have better ratings than the Twister. When's ABC gonna turn the lights out and declare that station a disaster area?

Sunny has no ratings because there music is a train wreck. The jocks are weak. Fast eddie sounds mechanical. Alway's has. He got that job because Chapman wanted him on there. Chapman doesn't want anyone strong replacing him in the market that's why he filled in at kluv.

The rest of the dayparts are voicetracked. Weak.

Huh? Last part:

Chapman doesn't want anyone strong replacing him in the

...makes no sense.

That's what happens when you put Baby Dj's on the air.

Looks like your information is a train wreck. Their music has been their strongest point. For the first eight months they were beating KLUV and KVIL in some key demos in some books. Fast Eddie mechanical? He's been one of the most consistent talents in ANY format he's worked over the years. And finally, Chapman had absolutely nothing to do with his Sunny job. I know because I WORKED with Ron. Chapman hired him because he was GOOD. Good enough to beat Ron in the morning when Sunny first went on in key women numbers. Believe me, Ron did NOT want him to go anywhere. What's weak is your post. My guess is that you couldn't get a job with KLUV OR Sunny. Maybe there's hope for you yet. Speak Spanish?

I have it on good authority Ron indeed helped Fast Eddie get the job at Sunny. I know John Roberts very well.

Yeah that 1.7 is real good ratings huh?

Agreed, it doesn't make any sense at all.

WTF? That's got to be the most asinine thing anybody has ever placed on this board, other than some of my posts. Chapman has nothing to do with Clear Channel or it's jock lineup. (though he may be a stockholder??? LOL)

abcdj... where'd you get your info about the flip? I really find it hard to believe that CC would make the flip to a Latino format so quickly after flipping the Eagle (RIP). I know there's a market for more "quality Mexican radio" in Dallas... but do those formats make money?

Nothing better than sipping my morning java and reading the board.

Hey Mr. Balls. What does knowing John Roberts have to do with Ron Chapman? Whatever you paid your "good authority," you better ask for your money back. Chapman didn't have a thing to do with Coyle going to Sunny, even though they remain friends. And you mentioned that "good rating" of 1.7. That was the LAST book 12-plus. As I read the post you were referring to, it says "when Sunny first came on in key women numbers." The same numbers Chapman went for. Last fall and winter Sunny did extremely well in mornings against KLUV. They also did well against KVIL. You should find someone with an arbitron and check before you start mouthing off. You come off looking like a moron. And your remark about Fast Eddie sounding "mechanical?" If that's what it takes to stay in a top-5 market for almost 20 years, sign me up. Most of us know where he's worked. He's also a good guy, which is rare in this business. Now, let's see YOUR resume. Got the "balls" to put it up for us "Mr. Balls?"

Bonehead,

KLUV had twice the numbers 25-54 as Sunny in the latest arb. Sunny was like 15th place women 25-54

Face it. Sunny's bad music, average dj's and crappy voicetracking got them in the situation their in. You want to hear a REAL ac. Try KOIT SF, or CC's station in Houston or Lite in NYC. KVIL has the same problem. They're no ac. They play stiffs or songs that belong on Rock stations. Deliah's music is AC and she has decent numbers. Go back to radio 101 Claw.

Sunny would have nevber considered Fast Eddie if Ron wouldn't have touted him as a Morning man. Ron took the weakest talent available and put him on kluv in the morning when he went on vacation.

You have to look no farther than the current number one station to see the success of the latino influence. Since KLOL flipped from Rock to "Hurban" here in Houston, it's share continues to rise and it is hurting comparable Regional Mexican and CHR/Rhythmic stations in the market. A good sales department can sell ratings, and basically that's what it takes. Look at the growing Hispanic population in the Metroplex (and across the nation). Both Clear Channel and Infinity are stepping up their efforts to tap into a market, in which Univision and other Hispanic-dominant formatted companies are making millions on as we speak.

With that being said, I don't see CC pulling the plug on "Sunny" yet. With KVIL really struggling, I just don't see them abandoning the format yet. Especially when they do so well with AC in other markets, like here in Houston with KODA, WLTW/New York, KOST/Los Angeles, etc. I think you'll start to hear less of the oldies and more currents/recurrents and evolve it into a mainstream AC to try and bury KVIL, which would be extremely sad being it was my favorite station for many years, but it is just a mere shadow of its former self, kind of like "The Eagle" and Q102 in last couple of years on the air. Infinity has ruined KVIL, just like CC ruined both "The Eagle" and Q102.

If KVIL doesn't start up trending soon, you may see a move to "Hurban" or Regional Mexican there. As I said, Infinity is looking to tap into this audience. I'd hate to see it happen, but they have to start doing better.

Wow Bucky, I have to say, you are one of the most entertaining idiots that I have EVER read on this board. You're still talking about the last book. Chapman's "retirement book." Don't you see the words last fall and winter? You keep AVOIDING the facts. We're NOT TALKING about S.F or Houston here! The real facts stand. You're clueless. How can someone argue with a clown like you? We're still waiting for that resume of yours. Of course we all know that you're not "weak enough" to fill in for the legendary Ron Chapman, but hey, indulge us anyway.

Ron took the
> > weakest talent available and put him on kluv in the

> > when he went on vacation.

I wouldn't call Jack Schell or Kevin McCarthy "weak", as they both filled in for Chapman along the way in recent times. Of course, none posed a risk for Chapman, since neither Schell and K-Mac were interested in jocking again on a daily basis.

Buenos noches, Soleado 97.1.

I'd guess CC is simply looking for their lowest performer to dump out of and put on a Hurban format. That doesn't mean Sunny is a bad format or isn't growing, it just happens to be the new kid on the block and hasn't made a big splash so far. Sure, it could grow over the next few years and build respectable numbers, but CC is on such a tear to capitalize on this Hurban movement. In any other situation, 14 months would be completely ridiculous to dump out of a format. You've got an investment to recoup from purchasing the music, hiring an appropriate PD, hiring known talent (and having to buy out their contracts,) etc. All I can confirm from within the CC walls is that there will definitely be a change there, soon. The specifics are unknown to me, but it's pretty obvious what the format will be. The big question is how Hispanics will react to a voicetracked, non-community-oriented station. I don't see the same techniques they force on 'white folks' working very well on that demo.

And there's no conscience there--remember how they unceremoniously dumped out of heritage rocker KLOL in Houston not so long ago, to bring on a Hurban format there.

> > Yes, there is nothing better than getting on the computer in the morning with my coffee and reading these posts. If for nothing else, a great laugh to start my day.
Fast Eddie is the least mechanical jock in the business. When he filled in for Chapman, Ron was so pleased with Fast Eddie's work that he requested that Fast Eddie fill in for him for all Ron's future absences prior to his retirement.
Fast Eddie got the job at Sunny because he was sorely missed on the airwaves and Sunny knew he was the only jock to put in mornings to make that station sound ideal. They were right. Ron didn't get Eddie the job, Eddie got the job on his own merits, as he always has in his long career. Back in the day, the whole "It's all in who you know" might have held some water, but in the day of Clear Channels and Infinitys, that well is dry my friends.
It will be a sad day if/when Sunny goes to "hurban".

Several good points, but I am going to use the method of "wait and see". I can recall the joke ABCDJ made almost 2 years ago when he said it was " a done deal" claiming K104 would switch in March of that year to "classic country". That thread was long and many were outraged. It was hilarious. I think he Might( I said MIGHT) be stating the change for Sunny to invoke a reaction. We will wait and see.:)

Your batting average ain't to good on here mr. Murrow. I take you with a grain of salt like most of your colleagues do.

Hate to burst your bubble Holly. Ron picked him because Ron has a huge ego and is a very insecure man despite his talent. Ron would never pick a great talent to fill in for him. It would show up the great Chapman. Nice try.

Your eyesight is very poor. I didn't post the comment you are referring to. As for your reference to "Most of your colleagues",you are neither the spokesperson for them,or have a clue what they or anyone normal thinks. Just sit at your pc and remain bitter that life is passing you by. On that note I'll just pass you BYE as well.

If CC was to Flip Sunny to a Hispanic format, I would bet on the "La Preciosa" Mexican oldies format over Hurban. Isn't KZZA already doing Hurban? Plus Hurban could hurt Kiss to some degree.

Check out the San Jose and Las Vegas ratings to see how well Preciosa is doing for CC. They just switched (or will switch) an oldies station in San Diego to Preciosa. I wouldn't be surprised to see CC expand the format to Texas.
