I don't know why it has to be so frustrating every year.
CBS finally got it all figured out and then they dropped it. One year Doug Davidson admitted they missed some floats and went back to show what we had not seen. I recognized one float I had seen as they were saying they'd be back but weren't describing it.
ABC stayed with the parade two hours, but NBC dropped out after 90 minutes in past years. I saw at least one entry I had missed on ABC during that last half-hour.
I always believed they weren't showing the end because CBS would go 30 minutes longer. Today they had the "Missing Man" formation to end the parade. ABC and NBC both showed it.
ABC kept doing interviews and behind the scenes stuff, and they wasted time talking about football (the only purpose of which is to provide two floats, two marching bands, and cheerleaders in sexy outfits), but I noticed on one or both networks they'd show floats that had gone by a long time ago. They just don't tell you when it's not live. I still don't think ABC showed all the floats, and I know NBC showed a float as they said they'd be back and never described that float. I never saw that float, I don't think, on either network. NBC at least didn't leave the coverage other than for commercials except for a hockey preview.
I wish it didn't have to be so frustrating going back and forth between TVs. I did get different perspectives, though, and Al and Nancy told some bad jokes. I didn't think I want those, but now I believe I prefer that to the professional job ABC's commentators did. It was the other way around.
I know ABC didn't show but one equestrian unit (except possibly before I got there) plus the Clydesdales pulling Olympic athletes. The Mexican guy with the rope tricks was only on NBC.
I recorded both networks with TiVo. It's a good thing I did because I ate spaghetti for lunch and that's messy to clean up. Making me quite late. Anyone appearing in the parade should have done the same, because there was no guarantee you'd be on either network.
