The Wolf - is it making any impact?

So I was driving back from the store last night and heard a Wolf promo on KIRO. Something about "tell us how much music we should play" and "we need to hear from you now".

And it got me thinking - other than the initial format change and a TV ad splash for a few days - we've heard nothing from this station. No billboards or bus sides. And I haven't seen any more TV Spots - but that may change during sweeps.

Now I do admit I'm not a country P1, but for those that are - can this station really make any inroads on KMPS?

Very good question.

Giving them the benefit of the doubt, I wonder if they are holding back for the Spring Book rating period to promote.

Over the weekend I asked a relative of mine who's a country fan about how much time she's spending with the station. She said that she now flips back and forth and probably splits her listening fairly evenly between The Wolf and KMPS. The first trend isn't until March 3rd so we won't really have any idea of their impact until then, but I wouldn't be surprised to see them take KMPS down at least a full share and debut with enough ratings to get them on some radio buys.

I hear in a lot of corners that people are commenting about the talent on the station, and it's not good.

Also, keep in mind, no one gets on an ad buy from a trend. Only a book. So, it will be August before we see Spring book numbers for them. I realize they were on for the Winter book, but I think it's going to take until Spring to really get a read on this station.

From the advertisers I talk to, they're not impressed with the Wolf overall, but it is a cheaper buy. The Wolf is more appealing to those wanting younger demos in the morning. Nobody can figure out why Ichabod is teamed up with the old news guy and a low-talent traffic girl.

The Wolf IS making an impact.....if you're an Entercom janitor who has to clean up the pee spots and bones scattered all over the studios and offices....

The Wolf on air personalities are some of the worse on air talent I have heard in quite some time, I can't stomach five minutes of the morning show. My guess is it will be around for about six months, then under go yet another Entercom make over and finally smolder into Seattle radio history....

By the way Larry, your comment was PERFECT!

From the peanut gallery:
As just a listener to Seattle radio & no kind of an expert, I have taken to listening to The Wolf off & on in the morning. Their morning personalities are genuinely good & have good instant chemistry. Other than that it is very stale & NO FUN. They seem to have tried to position themselves as younger & hipper and they talk up the "personality" angle, but the "personalities" are entirely without personality. Just announcers. <YAWN> If they are to do anything beyond another quick flame-out they need to do something different than KMPS. Dig deeper into the country music song-lists. Loosen up those personalities & spark things up a bit.

But then again, I'm not a radio expert like all of you, I'm JustALissner.

The Wolf is making a huge impact on country fans in the Seattle area. It is a fresh new station with incredibly talented people on air. As a huge country fan, it is nice to find a station that is not so uptight and stuffy such as KMPS. The morning crew is so much fun, I listen every morning!!!! They should keep up the great work and continue with the singles mingles! I am a P1 and proud of it!!!!

Really I think they are refreshing for the younger country listeners. I listened to Big D and Bubba on Q country and Ickibod on KMPS and for me they are boring. The Wolf is new and maybe off to a slow start, the mid day shows could do with a little perking up, but over all they are getting a great backing from their “P1’s”. They show the love and keep their listeners involved.

Yeah, because I hear radio listeners everywhere use the term "P1."

And this is the same rhetoric dispensed when Young Country came on the air. KMPS is boring, Ichabod is done, yada yada yada.

Get over yourself and fine tune the radio station and stop making yourself look like a moron on an internet discussion board.

The Wolf 100.7 is making an impact. I once only listened to KMPS. Which was good but was getting old. They only played the same top 20 hits. You could here the same song over and over during the day. I stop listening and went to KROCK with Andy Savage. I loved him and then the JACK came and took over. Lost them. I was lost for 6 plus months jumping from station to station with nothing sticking. Then came the wolf!

I now listen to the wolf on a regular bases. Listen from 6:00am on. I love the morning crew. They get the listeners involved and it is new stuff they talk about. You don't always get a busy signle like other stations and they value the listener more then those other stations.

They might be new and have a little hickups, but they are making an impact on me and the Seattle area. It is ok for more then one radio station with the same format. I hope they continue and I will as long as they are on the radio. Keep playing the music and keep going.

P1 howling out for now! Peter

we love the Fitz, in dallas, and listen to him via the internet. the show is great!!

Sad.

P1 here! I'm with mollyk, we need regular singles mingles and I agree with F-I-T(witha Z) that we need them in both the South and North ends of the Sound.

The Wolf actualy plays COUNTRY music. KMPS and Qcountry all play the same new songs over and over and over. If listeners want to hear the same music all day long, they can just hit repeat on there cd player. If they want to hear Real country they can tune in to 100.7.

SAD?????

What kind of naswer is that. If thats all you can come back with then you are one sad person. The wolf plays all the country just not the top billboard hits. And it is alright to have change! Change is good! Hope you caqn try and give it a chance. Sin't that what America is based on????

WOW--get some help for your hatin'

I have listened to all of the country stations in Seattle (Flo from KMPS is good friend of mine) and I have to be honest and say that the WOLF is refreshing and FUN. Those that sit on self-elevated soap boxes attempting to undermine the success of others are the reason humanity is so ugly.
Like 'em or hate 'em...the "personalities" on the WOLF are honest and straight forward, no BS.
Get over yourself...hatred is a self poisoning emotion, I pray that it leaves your "blackened" heart.
Fitz...keep it up Pal...Mary...you're beautiful...Possum...um...drink up Bud...just keep on keepin on and you'll be fine.

I think the flurry of pro-Wolf posts shows just how insignificant this station really is. But what do I know.

WOW! HATE? Good thing I fell off my self-elevated soap box and swooped up my blacken heart, otherwise I may have missed you post all along!

Radio is business sister, and my opinion has nothing to do with these people on a personal level, it is all about WORK. I am sure they are all swell individuals, but again it is all about the almightly dollar. Maybe you should spend more time with your good friend Flo and she could explain the sometimes cut-throat world of radio.

BLAH BLAH BLAH!!!!!! its not about the dollar....

Let me just start off by saying, to everyone that has a negative opinion about the Wolf, you have a big set of balls to be able to voice your opinion like this.

Yes we live in a world where there is Freedom of speech to voice your opinion, even if that opinion is ignorant.! We are all initialed to our own opinion, but like Pat, a listener this morning said "if you don't have anything nice to say, let alone any hard reasons for the crap you type then do the rest of us a favor and respect the fact that we like them and shut up." (ok so I added a little more to what she said this morning)

Answer this question, Tee taw... have you stepped up to the plate and hosted a radio show, an event or even a party? Something that takes long hours to prepare, a strong ability to talk live on the radio, plus to please multiple people at once? Well they do! It takes a certain style of people and "personalities" to get out there, hoping that you get a repeat listener. All the while trying to stay open minded that there are people out there (like you) that are closed minded and would rather sit at your computer and talk down on them. They are doing something they love, and have a gift to do it.! Are you that bored with your life that you have nothing better to do then talk about how you don't like them and what they do?

You might not agree with my likes on them but that's fine. I wont bat on eye about it. But before you sit and type your dislikes about a radio show that has class. Why don't you do some research on them and listen to them more then just a couple times. If, at that point you still don't find them your "cup of coffee" then fine change the station and listen to something else! We don't care read to your negativity!

Its not a "cut-throat" industry, there are plenty of listeners that go back and forth through many stations..... Have you ever once heard Fitz, or any one talk bad about the other stations? Or have you heard Flo talk bad about the Wolf? No, why? because they know this is just "BUSINESS!!" instead people like you feel you are the "voice of whats good or not" Get a life!!!. Move on with your own life and leave the people that are doing what they love and are good at alone. We get the point you don't like listening to them, ok then don't. Because there are more of us out there that like them.!

For the rest of Seattle that find it up lifting to have a COUNTRY station that relates to a diversity type of crowd....we'll keep listening to them and giving them the ratings they need to stay on the air.

I'm proud that we have Fitz, and Mary.(welcome back).. and everyone at "Wolf" to listen to in the morning!!!!!
