KPLX taps Ken Buckner for mornings, he recently did mornings at KLLL in Lubbock.

Speaking of....

"Cumulus CEO Lew Dickey tells Monday morning's quarterly call that the "vast majority" of the $50 million in synergies - cost savings - "will occur in the first six months." He says the savings will be "front-loaded", as they were when Cumulus Media closed on Susquehanna Radio in May 2006. "

The rest of the article is very interesting too with the eluding of stepping up syndication's exposure.

If you work for Cumulus/Citadel, it wouldn't be a bad idea to start saving some beans now before Q3 gets here, so you can be prepared should something happen to your job. All you have to do is look back at how it played out when Cumulus bought Susquehanna. It will happen again before the year is over.

I thought KTripleL has had the same morning show forever and ever.

Oops! My mistake, he did afternoons at KLLL

Hmmm, interesting. I don't know who Ken Buckner is. I am kind of upset that they filled the morning show possition. Lisa Taylor does just fine by herself, in my oppinion. :) Don't know why they all of a sudden put Ken in mornings this late in the game. Now Lisa's doing news/traffic (again) I'd much perfur her to be the front-and-center like she had been for the past few months. Not really feelin Lisa doing traffic/news. She should be the main wolf personality. No disrespect to Ken, but still. I'm quite annoyed!
Just expressing my thoughts on the matter.
Amber.

I think the question should be, should a station like the Wolf, (does well in ratings, top 5 25-54, bills extremely well, etc,) give an airslot to someone under 35 just because they're under 35?

I totally get that if you're KISS, i93, Edge, etc, that you probably want younger people, and might be willing to take a risk on someone with a little less experience because they know/live the lifestyle. But the Wolf?

I've met Lisa Taylor once. Came across as the hot mom I'd like to...get to know better...
And I bet that's the Wolf's target demographic. Women, 35-44.

I'm jost not sure I run out a 22 year old, just because they're 22...

Hello. Oh my gosh! You've met Lisa Taylor? That's like my dream to meet her, she's like my idol!! Was she nice? Did you get an autograph? So what your saying is don't just fill the spot to fill it? I don't think they should've had Ken come on board. I mean he hadn't even been there since like 2004? Why not just let Lisa run it. She did middays on Z100, and made them go to number one, so if it ain't broke, why fix it? sheesh! I mean I know ratings, ratings, ratings... but Lisa's not some new person- why should she do news/traffic? Ken should do news/traffic, Lisa should be the main person. Not only that, but they didn't even announce they were looking for people, and then he just comes out of the blue. It's kind of annoying. Please, put Lisa back to where she belongs, middays, or a solo slot in the mornings. Just my oppinion on this. Any more thoughts on the matter?
Amber.

Idealism on this board is, well, unusual. Amazing that everyone's being respectful. Good!

And no offense, Radiogirl, but I had to grin when you asked if Little1 got an autograph. Not just because it's Little1, but when's the last time any of you radio vets got asked for an autograph? TV folks, sure...Kraddick, yeah. But others?

The problem with just one host is that there's no interaction- nobody to bounce comments off of, no one to take the other side of the argument, etc. The dynamics of a 2 person show are totally different than a 1 person show, and in my opinion, a 2 person show is usually more interesting. (Plus if you don't like one host much, there's always the other)
And i haven't listened much since they started, but isn't it possible that Lisa gets the bulk of the talk time doing news, traffic, etc? What I heard yesterday, Ken outros a song, does a time check, throws it to Lisa who fills 90 seconds...Who's the star there?

And lisa's had success in AM drive. Moving her now to middays, even solo, would be a demotion. I don't think you mess with sucess, and without seeing individual breakouts (their show may be underperforming the rest of the station, which is why they may have let Paul Coffee (or was that Luke Casey?) go) overall ratings show the Wolf doing quite well...

And no, I didn't get an autograph. And if you want to meet her, call the station. I bet they'd arrange it...

Hi! Ah- okay I see. I only listened the one day-when he first started. 90 seconds isn't really that much, if you think about it though. I mean Ken's announcing the songs, and stuff, what Lisa "Use" to do before Ken came in, only differents was they had people doing the traffic/news. Yeah, that's probably/most likely why they let Paul go because of ratings. I do see your point. And to the person who commented about the autograph- Oh I see- I've gotten autographs from pretty... uh... big names in the radio world, only reason I asked. Really? If I called the station I could go in and meet Lisa Taylor? Woah! Is that how you met her? Or did you meet her at an appearance that they did? What was she like- was she nice? Did you get to see the station if you didn't meet her at an appearance? Hmmm, I'll have to arrange that, then! :) Thanks! :) I still think that Lisa should be by herself. (but maybe that's the fan in me who is talking now) but still. Yeah, I guess the midday thing wouldn't make sence, especially if she's had success doing morning drive already. Although she has had midday success in the past though. But makes sence- if it aint broke don't fix it! Any more comments/thoughts on this?
Amber.

Mike, I got asked for an autograph once. It was on 75 Central, going northbound around Mockingbird Lane. Cop said I only needed to give him one. LOL!

@soundbite: there ya go! ;D

@amber: sorry, not making fun of you. I just remember all the stories from 25+ years ago of DJ groupies and how even the lowly overnight guy could "score." DJs used to enjoy celebrity status, but I don't think that's been the case in forever, save for the heavy hitters. Then again, would you really want to hear, "Mr. Dorsey, I used to listen to you when I was 6 years old." The days of Cat Simon working the board with his feet while cradling two Cowboys cheerleaders in his lap are over. Same for Mike Selden having carte blanche at any club in town and being treated like an A-list Hollywood celebrity. Yeah, too bad.

Hi Mike! That's okay. Don't worry about it. I didn't take it as you were "making fun" of me. I just wondered, because I do have autographed stuff from djs, so I was wondering if he was able to get an autograph from Lisa Taylor. If/when I do meet Lisa Taylor, I'd probably just tell her what an inspiration she's been to me, because without hearing her on Z100 back in 1997, I wouldn't know what to do with my life. (literally) so thanks to her- I'm going into radio) at least she's still on the air. I've got family friends who are no longer on air due to cuts among other things. I just was wondering if he had gotten an autograph. :) but I do know Delilah occationally sends out autograph pictures to her listeners- or she use to. So don't worry- I was just being courious- didn't take it offencively at all!

Hello! Thanks for giving me Lisa's E-mail address! :) I appreciate it! :) But on the wolf's website it has it listed as [email protected] (e-mailed that one and I didn't get a responce). hmmm... maybe I had the wrong e-mail?
Thanks so much!
:)

I recall being asked for my autograph ONCE. I was at my first job in Eagle Pass, Texas. I was somewhat credited with bringing Top 40 to the town even though that was 1978. The radio I grew up with was WHB in Kansas City in the 1960s and KLIF and KVIL from 1969 to 1978, so when I cracked the mike in 1978, I tried to emulate what I grew up listening to (and still have the airchecks that make me want to crawl under a rock when I hear them). A girl asked for my John Hancock and I immediately thought of what Randy Coffey told me: "Your job (on radio) is no more important than the guy flipping burgers at McDonalds". I replied to her that I was no more important than the guy flipping burgers at McDonalds and quickly told her I would write and sign anything she wanted. Luckily she only wanted my signature. I thought it was the greatest of compliments.

I recall emailing Ron Chapman years back and how thrilled I was to receive an email from him. He was a major influence in shaping my opinion of what great radio is. That email is just as much an autograph to me and I printed it out!

I understand, Amber, we all have our radio stars...the ones that make a great impression on us...and an autograph is a nice momento.

I agree. An autograph is something to remember. But an e-mail is definitely more like an autograph to me too. I have had the oppertunity to have e-mailed some djs (no longer on air) who really shapped radio for me. (still have all our e-mails) because they definitely meant something to me, especially when wanting to start my career in radio. They were very helpful to me. :) (and that is better then any autograph) if anyone broadcaster can give me tips- like the one I was corosponding with it means a lot more then a paper with a signiture on it. Although autographs are nice too. But an e-mail is way better!! I still have old tapes of myself immitating certain people who I grew up listening to! lol. lol. Those are somewhere, every time I come across them, I'm imbarrassed, because I was only 12 at the time lol. But anyways, I'd love to meet Lisa Taylor and let her know what an inspiration/what an impact she's had on me. She was the person who really started it all for me, so I'm glad that you get that. :) That's cool. :D (cause I'm feeling that there was one person at least who started their interest in radio/ or made them have a career in radio) and I don't want to be one of those people who never gets to thank my idol-because then I'd definitely regret that-especially if something happends. Because with radio, you never know... you could be in one place one day and off the air the next. :) To the person who posted about them giving someone an autograph- that's cool! :) :D Thanks for sharing. :)
Amber.

By the way, Randy Coffey was a big influence on me. When I was in journalism in high school I liked visiting radio stations and writing an article about it. I had listened to Randy at KDTX and by then he was on 'Stereo 102, KFWD'. I visited Randy for the article and we talked of our love of radio. He said he had a little station in the garden shed in his backyard. I had a little station in the garage at the time. He took me under his wing, inviting me down here and there and offering the grand tour with each station that followed. I last spoke to Randy when was with KRQX (all Dallas/Fort Worth) and by that time I had a few years in the business. Randy may no longer be with us, but his legacy lives on with folks like me that reaped the benefits of his advice and kindness. I always try to pay that forward.

Aww, that's awesome! awwww. I didn't have anything in my backyard, but I did have a tape player- and I'd plug headphones into it, and record, so that I could feel what it's like to be on the radio lol. I also had a karokee macheen which had a little built-in cd player, with a mic, so that people could sing- well, not me! lol I used it for broadcasting. Put a tape in, and recorded, I then would put in a cd and announce the artist/song title lol. :) I'd also give the news, whatever was the latest in the intertainment news at the time. That's awesome that you got to work with Randy- and that's awesome how he took the time out to give you a tour and show you around the stations that he worked with. I also grew up with Rick Dees, among others, but Lisa was the one who really started it all for me. Glad she's still on the air! :) :D Thanks for sharing your story! Love reading other's stories about who influenced them growing up! :)

The [email protected] most likely maps back to the other address. When I worked for Cumulus, I had an email address that was my real name @cumulus.com, but I could also be reached at [email protected]. Both went to the same mailbox.
