I am not going to surf through all 32 pages here to see if this one was mentioned previously....BUT...
Growing up in Pittsburgh in the pre-cable era I was fortunate enough to live high up on a hill, where
we could not only get our local stations, but those exotic ones from Wheeling, WV, Youngstown and
Steubenville, Ohio as well.
One of my favorite things about watching WSTV in Steubenville was the cheesy quality of the local
commercials, Steubenville being one of the smaller TV markets around.
And some of the very cheesiest were done by a car dealer, Huebner Chevrolet of Carrollton, Ohio.
The owner would dress up like a super-hero in a cape and a mask, and star in his own ads as Mr.
Cost Plus. And they were everything you might expect of an ad with that concept done in a very
small market on tiny budgets.
The only time Mr. Huebner would break out of his Mr. Cost Plus persona was at Christmas time when
he would transform into some type of televangelist and use his thirty seconds of air time to urge us
to give ourselves over to Jesus.
I had not thought of these ads in many years, until the other day I passed a van with Huebner Chevrolet's
dealer plate holder in traffic. I had no idea they were even still in business. I would suspect that by
this time Mr. Cost Plus has gone to that great Chromakey studio in the sky. I went to Google them and
found that some thoughtful person had posted an entire channel on YouTube devoted to the adventures of Mr. Cost Plus!

Cheesy or not, they had the desired effect, as I still remembered Huebner Chevrolet after all these years!
