The Zone heads in a new direction

I'm on the air 7 days a week in this market, so I must be doing something that most everyone (including my bosses) that listens likes, except you.

OK, I'm not in the market, but HI BROOKE! I miss you and adore you. Sundays have never been the same, you know. And you're great.

I'm biased, of course, but you're talented and you know it. :)

Just had to "delurk" to say hi!

This board is similar to the taboids, and most BONAFIDE celebrities pay them no attention. You might follow their lead.

shenanigans. nearly everyone reads these boards whether they want to admit it or not. i've seen veteran talk personalities come into a station, read the board and rant on the air about some stupid post bashing their ratings in some pointless demographic.

it's all about ego.

I do agree, I'm a little surprised at the amount of personal attacks on the board. I did enjoy reading one person's POSITIVE feedback for another on here and I hope that will continue.

Is it just me, or does there seem to be more promotion of local music on the zone lately? or is that just because of their zonefest thing.

It seems like every year the Zone makes some attempt at supporting local music (ie. Battle of the Bands), now it seems that have a dedicated a little more time and effort to the cause with a local Sunday night show.

A few dollars an hour is right.

Sincerely,
An undiscovered talent. ;-)

>>Recently the Zone had a job posting on R&R and AllAccess looking for weekend talent so maybe the powers do feel the same way as you do but just can't find anyone to work for a few dollars an hour. <<

Not in 12+, but rumor has it that the new show saw a considerable bump in their demo.

This could just be hot air, but it looks like Renaldo and crew are doing better than shows before.

I am shocked by the lack of professionalism in the Sacramento market. I realize that nobody named me sheriff in here, but as a 30 year radio vet, and a consultant, I feel the need to offer this bit of advice once again:

Do not share your station business on a message board. I have never worked for a radio station that didn't have its talent sign a confidentiality agreement. If you are talking about things you've heard in meetings, the "true" feelings of the program director, etc, you run the risk of your words being used against you on your way out the door.

These rooms should be used for discussion about radio. What happens far too often is that people come here to defend themselves. It doesn't matter how many times somebody tells you that you or your station suck. If you use these boards as a way to make yourself feel better about your talent, then you are going down the wrong path. Fast!

Brooke, I have never heard you because I am out of the area, but if you are on the weekend. My guess is that you are a newbie to the business. If so, you shouldn't worry about or talk about ratings. This is not a knock on you, but outside of family and friends, very few people actually turn on a radio station to hear a personality in a music format. That's even more true for a weekend jock.

Again, that isn't a knock on you. Just look at your career and ask yourself "where do I want to be in a year"? Then simply focus on your goal and try to achieve it! In my experience, a PD who cares about the weekend numbers of a part time jock, on the weekend (and touts the success of the numbers), is a PD I wouldn't want to work for.

Keep up the good work. Bug your PD for air checks. When he seems to busy to air check you, stay in his face and make him understand that you're working for him to make his station sound incredible and that you want his help in doing so.

If you need a self esteem boost or help with brushing off mean spirited comments on a radio message board...go into therapy.

Oh boy, another consultant with all the answers :'(

No. Not all the answers. I've just seen a few talented people get shown the door because of things written on message boards. These places are fun for gossip. That's it. I thought I would offer some advice because I would hate for somebody to share inside info and lose a gig.

And for the record, any consultant who has all the answers isn't consulting, they are just a wanna be PD.

Give advice. Offer up suggestions based off of research and experience. In the end, let the PD make the decisions for the direction on the radio station. This is why I don't work with Cumulus stations.
