The Zone PD out

L

LMFAO

All Access is reporting that Max Miller is out at The Zone. They're also hinting at a format flip.

Any insight from within the market (or anywhere else)?

How about Free FM 100.5 - The Zone. O&A, Kidd Chris, Loveline, maybe move D&M or syndicate The Dogghouse from NY or even (and i hate to say it) Tom Leykis. Weekends playinig alternative rock, Out of Order with Jed The Fish, could be good.

Freefm will never happen. It is failing EVERYWHERE and CBS already tried hot talk in sacramento.

NOT
GOING
TO
HAPPEN
EVER

Fresh 100.5 is coming and coming soon? Maybe? Maybe? Maybe? Interesting very Interesting......mmmmmm...Will this help KWOD or The End 107.9?

Sports 1140 started as Hot Talk 1140, they brought it back to KXOA, who knows? The KXOA thing didn't work cuz PD Steve thought he knew everything....he SUCKED...he cliped syndicated shows cuz he thought they were too edgy, and he was way too controlling...after that failed he went on to Flash 92.1...good that did...haha...with a PD that doesn't control and edit shows...I think with good shows and a good PD it could work...

CBS is doing that in NY - Fresh 102.7. I think it's the same format as The Zone. [EDIT]

Doesnt matter because hot talk is not going to happen. Accept it. And why would they become "Fresh" when the New York station hasn't been around long enough to measure yet? Do you people think logically?

Since when did the word "gay" become offensive?? The FCC doesn't monitor this.

Ummmm....Not even close Brad. I have been reading your personal attacks for some time now and they're not funny, they're sad. KXOA failed as "The Talk That Rocks" NOT because of "Steve the PD", but because his hands were tied by Infinity corporate in New York who would not provide funds for marketing, programming, etc. once they committed to carrying Howard Stern in the market. The station had to pay Stern $250,000 per year BEFORE they even sold one second of advertising. Because of the lack of funds, the PD was forced to carry a very inexperienced local show for middays, and ratings suffered. [EDIT]

Let's see... what market format leader is in deeeeeeep trouble right now?

Could we be seeing a new straight up top 40 swooping in to finish the end off for good?

please god no...haha....they have a rythmic top 40 already...i think they'll stick with their format...this "meeting" was probably to inform their staff about the pd's departure...blah...blah...blah...no one cares

Are you people for real? This is one of those markets screamin for Movin. Someone who knows whatup please give us all details on the CHR war between 97 KROY, kWOD 106 and the still breathing thru thurr grillz - FM 102.

DO IT LIKE MOVIN IN SF AND IT'S TOP 5 ADULTS AND FEMALES 25-44,
AND PROBABLY CLOSE TO THAT 18-34. oh damn i'm shouting.

M&K STAY IN MORNINGS AND THEN WHO KNOWS AFTER 10, BUT PUT SOME NEW AC JOCKS ON AIR AND LET FM102 KEEP DOING THAT THING THEY DO REAL WELL... still shouting

THIS SHOULD HAPPEN INSIDE OF A MONTH. done shouting. THIS WOULD BE HUGE.

Insights? Comments? trash talkers? spellcheckers? here checkers checkers checkers......bad checkers... bad checkers.

With exception to Seattle, are there any Movin' success stories?

KFRC in SF is off to a slow start and I don't see a sign of life for Movin LA (unless I have the calls confused).

Where is Movin' successful?

Movin looks to pick in SF now that they have a morning show and more jocks probably on the way. They went way too long with no jocks, but now if they bring in some shiney happy dj's it should sound fresh and people will finally pay attention.

These movin stations all sign on with no jocks or personality at all..other than the two production voices, and that gets stale as hell after a month or two. If cbs did it right they'd have jocks set to roll a few weeks after launch and come on with a promotion and sign on as actual radio station...not a six month jukebox. I say save the tv dollars and marketing money until you have the product READY TO MARKET!. Hello markting 101!! Put those dollars into talent, get the product right, THEN GET SOME TV.

Do any of these GM's have ANY MARKETING BACKGROUND? i mean really. Someone launch one of these the right way!

But this city is a perfect fit for the music that most movin's are playing..listen to sf and dallas and seattle..they sound real good..phoenix for some reason went too hip hop/rap so i don't know what they're trying to do..but with a good group of adult jocks playing the movin launch package with a local flavor...like sf is doing...a sac movin could be be an out of the box success with adults. ;D

Max Miller's next move?

I am curious what Max Miller's next move would be?

Max Miller will go across town to The End and get the 'hold your wee for a Wii' behind them.

Just my prediciton. (You read it hear first)

Max Miller at 107.9? At first I laughed, and then I thought "Hmm, that may just work."

Max is a good PD, and he knows the Top 40 station format quite well. He may not have worked for The Zone, but he may just work for 107.9.

From what I hear, it wasn't that "he didn't work for the Zone". It was more a case of the PD having his hands tied by the higher ups, or the "next higher up"... as is much the trend for CBS. Don't look at the Zone's performance and see that as a reflection of his ability. The Zone is a reflection of poor decisions made by the OM. Radio needs more PDs like Max who can program using a combination of research and instinct. Best of luck to him in the future!
