There Was Never A Shortage Of Product:

Journey clarification:
When I spoke to Neal Schon, back stage in 1999, his statement about firing the "Whiney" Steve Perry was rather gentle: "There was a Journey, before Steve Perry, and now there is a Journey after him.

He's right. But there have been NO HITS since Steve. Steve WROTE the hits. They didn't have hits before Steve, and they don't have hits after.

Journey is now in the touring business. Radio plays the hits. Those two businesses are different.

Journey's 2000 relese, Arival, with Steve Augeri, may be one of their best albums. Many are well a-tuned to that fact.

Arrival (2001) may have been one of Journey's best albums, but it never broke the top-50 in sales, had no top-40 hits and one single failed to crack the AC top-20 charts. I'd be interested to know how many spins "All the Way" received one year after the release of the single. I've never heard it played on a AAA station.

Bingo!

Pardon me, while I interrupt this mutual admiration society, as you two young Boneheads really think you know something:

Peep this:

Radio & Concerts are two different businesses......Correct,

As Jounrey can still put fannys in the seats(regardless of their frontman)....While you guys couldn't net a decent ratings book, if your life depended on it!

You're one-for two. It's not a mutual admiration society, just agreeing with facts. As for the AOR format in 2014, it's as interesting and compelling as reading ad space on public transit.

You guys ain't(southern tern) no where near as sharp as you think. You don't pay much attention to detail: In my last reply, I purposely misspelled JOURNEY, and neither of you even noticed.
Hmmmmmmmmmmmmmm?

Oh, by the way, here's some more truth for you to waller around in:
Steve Perry never wrote any Hits. He only co-wrote them with (mostly) the help of the truely amazing, Jonathan Cain. The truth is, Perry is just a lyrist, at best.

Neal allowed him to put 15 of his poems on "Trial By Fire", an Awwww-ful Journey album, and then fired the Whiney one, when he refused to tour!

Should I list ALL of your spelling errors in this thread? There are quite a few. But I work in radio, so spelling doesn't matter.

I tired quickly of putting (sic) after his errors. And, as you say, there is no spelling of the spoken word.

That means he played the lyre?

If lyricists are not important, how come there are not more instrumental hits?

I think it's because the lyrics and the melody have to match. Lerner & Lowe, Rogers & Hammerstein, Gilbert & Sullivan would not have had the individual success were it not for the other.

I noticed the misspelling, but I, readily, admit that I make the occasional spelling faux pas.

Bring me a lyre!!

Priceless! Mr. Ed! Yes, there is still hope for California, even if you don't leave.

"Term" misssss-spelled on purpose, and you caught it. However, I find it just a amuzing that TheBigA did not. Oh,...well, par for the coarse.

So, what do you two have to say about the new re-built FOREIGNER, and their new frontman, Kelly Hansen?

Does men such as Neal Schon, and Mick Jones have the right to replace, and/or rebuild?

Does men such as Neal Schon, and Mick Jones have the right to replace, and/or rebuild?

That depends on the music consumers' reaction to the change.

As BigA has said, some of these changes are perceived as changing the band to a tribute show, others are perceived as not-so-good and a few keep on doin' it.

While you may decide it also depends on the payola behind the new releases, I'd agree with BigA, again, that the label support in promotion and priority is really the key issue. Today, that means spending on new media, FB post promotion, iTunes and all that.

Westwood One's old "Adult Rock & Roll" format used to spin new songs from core artists. The new tracks would air going into the :50 break with a short front-sell once every three hours. We carried it at the old "Big 106.5" in Jacksonville, FL and, as far as I recall, the only tune that made any significant movement, nationally, was Santana/Rob Thomas' "Smooth".
