They preempted that for this?

College football today on the big 4 has definitely gone back to normal. Games on ABC and Fox all day, an SEC game on CBS and Notre Dame on NBC this afternoon. Nohting out of the ordinary.

ABC, Fox and CBS are pretty much staying the same this Saturday, but NBC has soccer and NASCAR racing scheduled.

Depends but I remember in other articles the networks talked about having app feeds for the hearings.

Although I don't care much about daytime TV now except for Jeopardy (Which is in the middle of their Tournament of Champions) The big 4 networks need to go to what was done with the Watergate hearings in the 70's and take turns at broadcasting each day rather than their all going to pre-empting everything on all 4. But then daytime TV in the 70's wasn't made up of as much garbage as it is now so a lot of it will be the regular trash talk and courtroom shows vs. trash talk in Washington so is that any better? In any case I hope that Jeopardy will be on somehow in my area.

Forget that idea. There will be no “rotating.” (And let’s not pretend the TV schedules back in the day were a bastion of intellectual superiority.)

I remember my grandmom always chose the channel that didn't have the hearings when the networks rotated.(seem to remember her telling me about watching Another World when it was CBS's or ABC's turn.)

Tonight's ABC game overran to 11:14 ET/8:14 PT. WABC news began at 11:18. FOX's game, listed until 11:30, ended at 11:48 and signed off at 11:56. WNYW news began at 11:58.

KGO San Francisco, against precedent, did not run "After the Game" to 9:30 Pacific like they usually do when the game runs past 8:30. I tuned in at 9:05 and Jeopardy! was on, so ATG probably ran to just 9:00 (or, less likely, it didn't air at all and WOF was JIP'd at 8:42 like on KABC, but the KGO site still has ATG listed).

Looks like KGO's local postgame program "After the Game", if it even exists anymore, no longer has a policy of "run a minimum of 30 minutes to the next half-hour interval if football overruns". I tuned into KGO at 8:39 PT and Wheel of Fortune was on as listed, so it's likely that ATG, if it aired at all, only ran to 8:30 as normally scheduled (it is still listed on the KGO website). Not sure whether ATG or WOF aired in what was left of the 8:30 time slot last Saturday, but either way, assuming WOF was not JIP'd by anything tonight, this is only the second time KGO aired WOF in full on a Saturday so far this season.

At least they had more programming that was fun like game shows, sitcom reruns and cartoons, not trash talk, courtroom shows and infomercials.
That may have been fun for you. What airs today may be fun for others. And in many markets, the stations that will be airing the network coverage have a relatively smaller proportion of those general categories than other stations. Their talk shows will tend to be more of the Ellen or Rachael Ray type, less Wilkos and Maury on the whole.

As long as Alex Trebek is able to host I would hope most stations if not all would avoid pre-empting it if possible. So far he has shown no signs of problems. He just keeps on doing his superior job.

I know not everyone has cable channels, especially with cord cutting, but during Watergate we didn't have such options.

I wonder how many people are now complaining to CBS about yet another "60 Minutes" delay due to extended NFL coverage (now with Jaguars-Broncos bonus coverage in those markets who had Bears-Vikings).

The announcers seemed IMO apologetic about the 60 Minutes delay when they gave a promo for the upcoming broadcast.

Fox is having just as many delay issues with "The Simpsons" this year(this week with Rams-Steelers bonus coverage).

MNF tonight is Seattle @ San Fran. KGO will be carrying the game as per usual, with the same scheduling as last time:

Over in SF, the game is on ABC O&O KGO, slotted from 5:00-8:30 PM Pacific with no pregame, pre-empting local news at 5:00 and 6:00, a repeat of ABC World News Tonight at 5:30 (it also airs live with the East Coast at 3:30), Jeopardy!, Wheel of Fortune, and part of Dancing With the Stars. KGO's entire primetime and late night lineup slides back half an hour (possibly further if there's overrun), with DWTS at 8:30, The Good Doctor at 10:30, the "11:00 news" at 11:30, Kimmel at 12:05, Nightline at 1:07, a news repeat at 1:42, and a repeat of Tamron Hall at 2:12. As for Jeopardy! and Wheel, KGO's site implies that Tamron will be cut off at 3:00 to show Jeopardy!, followed by Wheel at 3:30. However, Zap2It has a full hour of Tamron with Jeopardy! at 3:12 and only 18 minutes of Wheel from 3:42-4:00, implying a cutoff to start America This Morning on time.

Seattle will be carrying the game on KIRO (CBS). This station usually airs a consecutive quad run of Judge Judy from 3-5 PM. Today, only the first of the four episodes will be airing. CBS Evening News moves up to air live with the East Coast at 3:30, 4:00 is replaced with a local newscast, and 4:30 is a pregame show. KIRO also has a postgame show scheduled for 8:30-9:00. CBS' primetime lineup from 9:00 onwards is scheduled as normal. The Neighborhood and Bob Hearts Abishola are bumped to 1:37 and 2:07 AM, replacing a news repeat and Right This Minute.

Wheel and Jeopardy! will also be pre-empted tonight on WANE in Fort Wayne, IN (CBS) by a local special titled "Veterans Voices: Honor Those Who Serve". The two shows will air in the post-Corden hour - 1:37 and 2:07 AM in place of ES.TV and Recipe.TV.

I'll admit some stations do better than others and I can tolerate shows like Ellen, Rachael Ray, etc. and I hope the trend continues in that direction. But too many stations still go for the garbage like Springer and Maury and courtroom shows, mainly Fox and CW stations, and there is still too much of it.

I know not everyone has cable channels, especially with cord cutting, but during Watergate we didn't have such options.

Stations generally already do avoid pre-empting Jeopardy! compared to Wheel of Fortune and other syndies. Usually if a station does pre-empt Jeopardy!, Wheel is pre-empted along with it, or it's something uncontrollable, like breaking news or all-day sports coverage (e.g. Christmas NBA on ABC). A lot of stations will air random local specials in Wheel's time slot but leave Jeopardy! alone, even if it airs in prime access. And often, if both shows are pre-empted, J! will either get a more favorable make-good time than Wheel, or Wheel doesn't get a make-good at all (e.g. Every year during March Madness, WTSP Tampa re-airs the Thursday and Friday eps of J! early weekend mornings, but doesn't air the Wheel eps at all). It is very rare to see Jeopardy! pre-empted but not Wheel. It's almost-always either just Wheel, or both of them.

J! doesn't pre-empted nearly as often as Wheel since stations love putting Wheel in the 7:30 ET/6:30 CT slot where stations and networks love to air local specials, pregame shows, and award show red carpets. Case in point, with Thursday Night Football and the World Series, Jeopardy! is only bumped to late-night slots on two affiliates: KVHP Lake Charles and KDVR Denver. Wheel of Fortune is bumped late by five affiliates (not counting KHON Hawaii which bumps it to the still-reasonable 8:00 time slot): KDVR Denver, WBFF Baltimore, WVUE New Orleans, WDAF Kansas City, and WALA Mobile.

Jeopardy! already gets a bias from most stations, not just because of Alex's health, but because it surpassed Wheel in ratings a couple years ago, and also because it has continuity with its returning champions (which Wheel hasn't had since the 90's). Most stations will not pre-empt it if they don't have to. Even WBZ Boston, which pre-empts J! and Wheel every Friday during football season, airs J! tourney finales (which almost-always fall on Fridays) on its sister station WSBK as well as overnight on WBZ, but Wheel only gets the latter. Also, sometimes WBZ will air some local event in the 7:30 slot, and J! gets moved to 7:00 and bumps Wheel overnight.

With the impeachment hearings, I won't be surprised if some Central Time Zone affiliates are forced to pre-empt Jeopardy!, then announce later that day that the show will air at 6:30 in place of Wheel. WMBD Peoria (CBS) did that back in May when J! was pre-empted by severe weather coverage.

All I'm saying is, Jeopardy! viewers have it way easier than Wheel viewers. Wheel is very likely the most pre-empted syndicated program on TV because of its prime access mandate and "self-containedness" of each episode, therefore being "unimportant". Entertainment Tonight is probably a close second.

I'm pretty sure that this is going to show up on TV News Archive at some point. For whatever reason, TV News Archive records shows that have News titles on it but it's actually Sports Overruns.

What’s too much? Is it defined by your standards? The market supports it. Not to your taste doesn’t mean not to someone else’s. I can’t stand a minute of it. I cursed myself for forgetting my earphones getting my car serviced and similar programs were on in the waiting area.

The thing is, if people tune out, it goes away.
