They preempted that for this?

The final game overran to 12:15 AM Eastern. Not the longest WS broadcast despite all the celebration afterwards. Still, it should tell FOX that a four-hour time slot is much more appropriate, at least for Games 5+.

Sure but the problem is you had a west coast team playing an east coast team. So you don't want to start too early for the west coast, and also not end too late for the east.

And the bigger problem is that a game that had only four runs scored and 10 total hits took 3 1/2 hours to play, thanks to all the strikeouts and pitching changes. The way the game is being played today -- ponderous and dumbed-down, with little action, less strategy and no subtlety -- is not conducive to attracting new fans and may very well be turning off the existing ones.

I think what Rob is saying is the games should be scheduled for 4 hours in the guide and not 3. This helps prevent pre-emption of whatever programs are after the game, be that news or syndicated programming

It also can't be fun for the anchors and crew of the so-called "11:00" news to have to keep waiting in the wings for over an hour, and finally starting by the time they probably should already be on their way home. (at least in the case of WNYW, which always does an hour of news no matter how late games run)

Fox stations don't do an 11:00 news. They do a 10:00 news. And usually it's their only newscast. So they're not "waiting around." They know it's going to be late, and they likely come in late, knowing they're going to stay late. No big deal. It's the life of a news person. If breaking news happens, they come in and pre-empt programming. Happens all the time. That's what this thread is about.

The advantage is they know they'll have huge tune-in from people watching the game, and don't know what else is going on.

WJZY Charlotte does a 5:00 and 6:00 newscast. WGHP in the Greensboro market has news at 4, 5 and 6.

Some of the bigger stations do have something that at least partially resembles a big 3 schedule, with something in the early evening and then the nightly news, and some manage to tack on an 11 pm half hour to boot. Regardless, it's just part of the job that you sign up for.

Actually a lot of Fox stations air an 11:00 news in addition to a 10:00 news.

By 11:00 news, I meant after-the-game news that starts no later than 11:00. WNYW does not have an 11:00 news on regular days. The after-the-game newscast is still referred to as "FOX 5 News at 10" no matter how late it starts. The only difference is the opening spiel, "It's 10 PM. Do you know where your children are?", is changed to say "after 10 PM".

huh so I guess the 9+ hours of news KMSP FOX 9 Minneapolis shows must be their "only newscast".
KMSP has news from 4:30am-9, then their "fluff" show from 9-10 (but has news in it), 11-noon, 5-7, 9-10:35 (plus a 7-8 on co-owned FOX9+ WFTC)

Yes some smaller markets may only have a 9pm (CDT) newscast but in those markets they probably forget about news (I know here in Mankato they do when the sports runs past 9:30)

tomorrow night KFVS CBS Paducah, KY/Cape Girardeau, MO is showing the Southeast Missouri State/Southern Illinois football game at 6pm
Primetime (Greatest at home videos and Blue Bloods) shifts to after Corden (12:37)
Entertainment Tonight which is on at 6:30 gets bumped to CW sub (which replays it at 10pm anyways) pre-empting local news

According to the listings, "Celebrity Family Feud" did not record on WSOC Charlotte because of a Mental Health Special, whatever that means. I did record the show on WXLV.

I was checking on the Panthers-Falcons game on WGHP and there was a football player in the upper left corner of the screen as the meteorologist talked about tornado warnings.

Meant to post about that preemption. Celebrity Feud aired at 1:05 am last night on WSOC.

local markets airing ESPN games for the next 6 weeks (ROFR means right of first refusal...not 100% confirmed but usually they will carry it)

10/19 MNF: ARZ-DAL (8:15 PM ESPN)
ARZ: KSAZ (FOX)

LAR: KABC (ABC)

11/2 MNF: TB-NYG (8:15 PM ESPN)
TB: WMOR (IND)
NYG: WABC (ABC) ROFR

11/9 MNF: NE-NYJ (8:15 PM ESPN)
NE: WCVB (ABC) and WMUR (ABC)
NYJ: WABC (ABC) ROFR

11/16 MNF: MIN-CHI (8:15 PM ESPN)
MIN: WCCO (CBS)
CHI: WLS (ABC) ROFR

11/23 MNF: LAR-TB (8:15 PM ESPN)
LAR: KABC (ABC) ROFR
TB: WMOR (IND)
Plus there's the possibility could be called upon to air or produce for syndication TWO OR EVEN THREE games on Mondays

I cite an example involving the Broncos-Patriots game I saw on Twitter

That being the game being moved to Monday, aired on ESPN with the top ESPN On ABC CFB announcers in the booth & ohh yeah - MOVED TO LONDON

While I certainly thought the game being moved to Monday, aired on ESPN with the aforementioned announcers being called on to call the game (And even aired on ABC during the day) were all plausible, the idea of the game being moved to London certainly wasn't because of COVID concerns & issues

As it turned out, that never came to pass as the game stayed on CBS but simply delayed by a week

With WJZY airing TNF, sister WMYT aired Fox News’ coverage of the debate tonight. Note that it was Fox News’ coverage, not News Nation’s. It preempted Big Bang Theory at 9 and 9:30 and the first episode of Schitt’s Creek. It joined the second in progress shortly after 10:30. Listings do not show the preempted programs being rescheduled.

Not sure what other My stations aired the debate.
I can't imagine KWGN 2 or any of KDVR 31's subchannels airing it. Nor do I imagine KTVD 20 airing it (Especially since it's parent is NBC affiliate KUSA 9)

In short, I suspect Fox News coverage was limited to cable here in Denver

Here in Denver, not only does KDVR 31 have a 10:00 PM newscast but CW affiliate junior KWGN 2 has an 11:00 PM newscast

KWGN is also one of the VERY few CW affiliates that also has a 4:00 PM newscast too (This one competes with the ones on KMGH 7 & KUSA 9)
