They preempted that for this?

Not a great show anyway, IMO. The scripts were just OK. And if you're going to do a period piece, it's important to be accurate about history - making sure songs played on the show supposedly from those years were ACTUALLY songs people listened to in those years, not songs from 4 years later; not showing cars from the late 60s if the story is taking place in the mid 60s, etc. You can be sure that there are enough viewers watching who lived in those years and are paying attention - to notice the glaring errors.

Exactly, like watching The Goldbergs where everything was scattered. Stranger Things on the other hand they used the current area codes which were not in play in the 80s and in the video store they had the 1995 re-release of A Christmas Story on the shelf.

I just found out about this pre-emption for tonight, The CW is pre-empting regular programing tonight to simulcast the NewsNation Cuomo Town Hall: The First 100 Day's of Trumps term.

Re: Do your station still pre-empts network shows for local sports?

On now-defunct Guiding Light, Sacramento's then-CBS affiliate KXTV (now ABC) dropped it in 1992, and when KXTV and KOVR swapped in 1995, KOVR refused to do the same thing and even as a CBS O&O. Pretty uncommon for a network O&O station not clearing a show broadcast by their network. Fox's Weekend Marketplace, different story.

Yes, I know, from thirteen years ago, but...

Can network O&Os do such a thing? I thought it was pretty much set in stone that O&Os would clear the entire network schedule, but then again, I suppose in a given market, a business decision might be made, to the effect that running another show instead would be more profitable for the station.

It's their stations, to do whatever they want with programming them.

NBC flagship WNBC has preempted network prime time for pre-season NY Giants football games for many seasons now. They used to push the NBC programming over to their digital subchannel 4.2, COZI TV, which in turn, preempted COZI’s prime time programming there. Not sure what they’ve done the last couple years.
But yes, it happens.

I didn't think of subchannels. I guess I'm dating myself by subconsciously thinking in terms of analog. Subchannels allow the very flexibility you describe.

In 1994 when WAGA announced they were switching from CBS to Fox, they began piecemeal pre-emptions of CBS shows, starting with The Price Is Right and the entire Saturday morning kids line-up. At the last minute, then-independent WVEU (today CW's WUPA) stepped in and cleared Price until CBS found a new affiliate, which is now WGCL.

I remember Labor Day weekend 1994 I was in Atlanta visiting friends and family and when WAGA was airing the Jerry Lewis MDW telethon WVEU was airing PIR. Had no idea it was a regular occurrence for them until now. Coincidentally CBS bought WVEU bought CBS and almost became their CBS affiliate!

WBRC in Birmingham did something similar. They got rid of Good Morning America just before they switched to Fox. IIRC, WSB and WXIA did something similar when they were getting ready to “switch” affiliates.

If memory serves, WXIA did pick up Sale Of The Century, albeit briefly, in late 1986 or early 1987. It was around the time NBC brought Blockbusters back (with Bill Rafferty) in December of 1986. Other than that, WATL/channel 36 aired it on a same-day delay to 12:30 in 1983.

Blockbusters with Bill Rafferty premiered January 1987.

It must have been very briefly because I always remember "Sale Of The Century" being on Channel 36. Here's an oddity from the days when Channel 2 was still the NBC affiliate; it didn't carry the daytime "Gong Show" (Channel 36 did) but did carry the nighttime version Fridays at 7:30. 11 Alive did, IIRC, carry the Bill Cullen "Blockbusters"; it might not have seen the light of day on Channel 2, because "Blockbusters" was on at 10:30 AM, in the middle of Mike Douglas' show on 2.

Somebody mentioned "Press Your Luck" not being carried in Memphis; WSPA/7 Greenville/Spartanburg/Asheville didn't pick it up until after Michael Larson's $110,237 win (must have been all the publicity), and at one point turned down the Bob Eubanks "Card Sharks," which replaced "PYL" at 10:30 AM, in favor of "Wipeout." Coincidentally or not, the host of both "PYL" and "Wipeout" was Peter Tomarken. WSPA was good about carrying "Tattletales" at 4; it was usually the only network show airing in that slot (WFBC/WYFF carried "Somerset" at 1 or not at all, and WLOS pre-empted "Edge Of Night"); in fact, before "Tattletales," it was one of a few CBS stations in the Carolinas to continue to carry "Secret Storm" at 4 (WFMY, WNCT, and WBTW also did), even though that soap was doomed.

Wipeout premiered in the fall of 1988. WCPX/WKMG did the same with Combs Feud in 1990. They aired it at 7:00 PM opposite Jeopardy! On WFTV and Entertainment Tonight on WESH. Followed by the short-lived Dick Clark game show. The Challengers.

Tuesdays Twins game will be shown over the air in MN, ND, SD etc
This year the MN Twins will have 10 Tuesday games on broadcast TV.
Here in Mankato Tuesday has the first on Fox. The Fox programming that is on from 7-9 will be shown at 11-1 after the news. Twins game scheduled for 6:30-9:30 and half hour postgame.
In Minneapolis for the same Twins game Fox 9 moves the programming to 10:35ish.
In Rochester, MN KXLT Fox 47 is carrying the game. Network programming moves to 11pm-1am
In Duluth, MN the Twins are also on KBJR-DT3 which is Heroes and Icons but they show TONS of sports on here so no biggie. Station is in HD
In North Dakota the game is on Fox across the state. Network programming is being shown after the game

One note at least in Mankato. If game runs short then after twins game and news Fox programming starts early and not at 11 pm.

WJLA Washington DC has moved to a new master control. As a result, there have been some technical problems during syndicated programming. On at least May 5, WJLA did not start Live with Kelly & Mark on time and instead aired idle footage of an empty news studio for several minutes.

On May 6, they failed to air episode #S-8182. At 7:00, they ran a loop of promos for the local news and The Drew Barrymore Show. WOF did not start until around 7:08, and it was episode #S-8172 from Disney Princess week, two weeks ago. The episode did start from the beginning, but because it was running late, WJLA abruptly cut to commercial right after the Bonus Round.
