Things ive noticed about Rick dees when he was on kiis fm

Those are two attributes I had never heard about Rick Dees, a "great guy with a big heart"? Plus I'm not sure doing a weekly show is a testament to his personality? He's 75 and spends time with young Christian boys

Rick Dees was the co-founder of the Fine Living Network, and DDN—The Dees Digital Network. He is active in Young Life, a Christian organization and remains active in Boy Scouts, where he was an Eagle Scout.

There is very nearly a "you want to defend that in court?" level of innuendo in that post, MadMan.

Exactly. Once you get outside the youngest demos, the age of the jock (as long as it's not obvious by voice or attitude) matter less.

That said, 73 is 73, and Gary will probably choose to stop getting up at 3:30 a.m. sooner rather than later (Gary, if you're reading this, I recommend it highly).

Ive done morning drive at a bunch of stations, despite not being a morning person at all and hating/not drinking coffee.. but you gotta do what you gotta do. I've had to get up anywhere between 330 and 5am depending on the station... when mornings start, where i live with regards to the station etc groan

I did mornings in every market I worked in except Las Vegas. Probably eight separate morning gigs, both radio and TV.

First time (not counting filling in for the morning guy) was 1974, the last time was 2015. It never gets easier.

The last time, after 18 months in mornings, it took six weeks to get my sleep patterns back to normal and for the sleep deprivation symptoms to go away.

It's also hell on your personal life. When I first did it, I was single and it made dating really tough. And then, married, and with kids, needing to be in bed by 9 at the outside (8 or 8:30 in a couple of cases), just didn't work for anyone.

Um that came word for word from his site and the North Carolina Music Hall of Fame?
And if you are referring to being a great guy & having a big heart, well he wasn't & doesn't.

I have no desire to defend or dump on Mr. Dees. But I do want to say that I've known, or known of, a number of people who've had overnight or early AM shifts. Too many of them had their health adversely affected by that way of life. Some went to their graves much sooner than they should have, and others whose last years were miserable due to poor health. We've all heard the expression "correlation is not necessarily causation", but this has happened too many times to just be random coincidence.

True, though they didn't feel the need to put "Boy Scouts" in bold.

And neither source uses the phrase "He's 75 and spends time with young Christian boys."

When you distill what is in the official bio to that phrase and precede it with "Those are two attributes I had never heard about Rick Dees, a "great guy with a big heart"? it hits significantly different than just your disagreement with the assessment of his character without that line.

If it's not intended to raise eyebrows, to suggest something that would negate being a "great guy with a big heart", then what's the point of including it at all?
