This is a real stretch, Wgun could be a news talker?

I know, and remember well back in the either 80s or early 90s when Wgun was news and talk, but I dont think the format there had a chance then.. But what about now? They have a signal thats worthy during the day anyway. Would it work?

Don't see that happening as long as the Rivers family owns it. The station is actually making money with it's paid block programing. They already turned down Air America from what I understand.

Well, thats a shame.. The station sounds horrible. Its not the religion Im talking about, although some of the quality of that programming is just terrible. Not the content the audio sound quality. But to the meat of my statement, I think this would be a great place to start a talk station that would be local, and with enough promotion, It would be listened to as much as it was in the 50s. 50,000 watts strong and whats strange is that signal sounds so much better than 640

Funny you think that. I cant get it on 400 worth a crap. I thought about buying time there for a product and I was disappointed by daytime signal.

WGUN is not 50,000 watts all day. They have critical hours of operation 2 hrs. after sunrise and 2 hrs. before sundown and 75 watts at night. One reason the audio quality is poor sometimes is the source. They get some of the preachers and other shows on poorly recorded tapes and badly produced cd's. Some of the satellite fed shows sound ok.

When a program airs with good audio quality, WGUN sounds very good. We have a DX50 solid state transmitter and the same audio processing as the other major stations in town.
As you go further up the AM dial your coverage, for a given power, gets worse. A 5000 watt station, at 550 Khz, has better coverage than a 50,000 watt station at 1010 KHZ. WGUN's signal is not on par with WSB, WCNN, or WGST.....but not due to inferior facilities. It's just the physics of radio signals.
News/Talk requires an incredible amount of start-up cash to be successful and Atlanta is not really a 3 news/talk station market anyway. The station is profitable but the family would like to see more of it's potential met. I'm sure it could be improved!!
WGUN is a unique marketing tool.....you should reconsider using the station if it fits your business' marketing model. It works for lots of other folks....might just work for you too!
