THIS IS WHY DANCE MUSIC WILL CONTINUE TO GET NO RESPECT IN THE US!

OK, I haven't heard the song, and haven't even read the majority of this post. But this subject is silly. What people think of Kim Sozzi is hardly relevant to dance. Sure she is known in NY or whatever, but from what I know of her previous songs, they are not really staples in the format. I have never been asked to play any of her records. When kids ask me to play "Techno" or whatever, I would not consider working her music into my sets. Let her songs remain for the niche fans. That is all.

How many dance songs are on the iTunes Top 20 chart in the U.S.? Exactly.

I would say it's biggest weakness is exposure. Look what happened when that jersey shore show played one of the most novelty dance songs to come out this year - the non-dance public found out about it and for some strange reason wanted to hear it on their CHR. Imagine if good commercial dance songs got that kind of exposure on a regular basis. Exposure+coolness=sales

Exposure is definitely lacking. Here's the thing-even with exposures dance music does not sell as well as other genres. This is why dance friendly formats started flipping to an Urban lean when soundscan starting tallying up sales back in 92(?).The format has not been able recover since then. Although,I am of the opinion that a reversal within the rhythmic formats will continue in 2011 with more uptempo dance tracks gaining airplay.

I forgot to mentioned many in the dance community frowned upon the Jersey Shore, fearing it would give dance a bad image. Which I find that hilarious given dance music's stereotypes. However,no one will argue now that the Jersey Shore has been a positive thing for dance. So yes, more exposure is needed in all aspects of the media (Movies, cable,tv,print).

Ah, yes....the same Jersey Shore that the alternative rock scene was warned about :D That is another issue I am dealing with, the locals labeling their own Top 40 station "benny music" because G-Rock flipped to Hit 106, only till this September to go back to 98.5. Tell you one thing, the new B down here is more dance friendly than Hit 106 was, and more locals are not supporting it because it's "benny music." So not only the venom comes from our own, but from others that judge where you came from.

That has been my point for years. If these songs had better promotion, you'd see a lot more demand for them. Even if the some of the songs aren't that great. All genres of music have seen songs that aren't that great, but they become hits because of the exposure. Not EVERY time, but some.

Possibly the biggest dance pop star of this generation, Lady gaga just basically credited dance music for her success. She's throws her shoes to the crowd in "the tradition of her dancers" and the people go nuts. She tells them "so to good luck and to lots of dance music and to our future...as a family", and people wouldn't recognize the success of dance music if it smacked them in the face. Goodbye people, this is a sad sad board...and those people who actually MATTER. See you in 2011 ;)

Come on Manny! :)

No one is going to throw anything at anyone here :)

Serious, being a PD at Fusion, your words do carry weight here so please, if something grabs your attention post away :) Otherwise come WMC, I'll hit a "Bed, Bath & Beyond" and find that blender! Regular or margarita? ;)

this is the dumbest comment of them all

I don't think Kim has anything really to worry about. I would not let the comments on her video be an accurate judgement on Kim's musical talent.
