KSWD has stayed steady - up just a bit this month but still #27 25-54
El Gato has triple the INDIE 103.1 numbers...
Not exactly SuperRadioFan, Indie seemed to be focused at its last days. The station was more radio friendly than it had been before, and honestly, I did not have a problem with that. It was just like KROQ with more new music and I honestly LIKED that. People (mainstream listeners) usually avoided Indie because it was too different and not very radio friendly, but if people had started listening when it did become more radio friendly, the still probably would have been on the air today. The only problem for Indie was the signal! When you have KYSR and KROQ with powerful signals and KDLD with its Class A signal, who would you listen to?SuperRadioFan said:Radioresearcher said:Also of note

Yes The Sound is #27 in 6+ and #27 in 25-54. Because IMO they lean very heavily on a classic rock/"safe" AAA tracks playlist. Very little originality in the playlist and that is why they are doing better. The old LCD theory. I noticed their cume went down last month and again this month. What do you make of that, RadioResearcher?
As to 103.1, well we all know Indie was way too eclectic and unfocused to achieve any fair numbers.

I have a good feeling El Gato will suffer soon. More Mexicans are leaving the US because of the recession and David had said a little rumor about KDAY switching to Spanish.

i'm pretty sure Indie's problem was the signal...in parts of L.A. where Indie was popular the signal did not cover that area. everyone loved the programming. i feel if Indie were on a much better frequency, it could beat out KROQ or KYSR...Radioresearcher said:radiojomo said:Not exactly SuperRadioFan, Indie seemed to be focused at its last days. El Gato competes against KSCA and KLAX.
In December (Indie's last full month), they had 8% of KROQ's share and 13% of KYSR's share 12+
In April, El Gato had 30% of KLAX's share and 36% of KSCA's share 12+
It wasn't the signal - it was the programming.

i am not trying to dispute what you are saying, but couldn't you say that the reason why KROQ still is listened to more in certain areas because of the fact it is a legendary station. i admit i was wrong when i said "it could beat KROQ"SuperRadioFan said:musicfan101 said:I'm pretty sure Indie's problem was the signal...in parts of L.A. where Indie was popular the signal did not cover that area. everyone loved the programming. i feel if Indie were on a much better frequency, it could beat out KROQ or KYSR...
As Yogi Berra said, I'm feeling like it's Deja Vu all over again. I think this has been addressed in the past, probably by David or any of the other experts here. How do you measure the areas where "Indie was popular" even though the area could not receive a good signal? Even in the areas near the 103.1 transmitter, KROQ and I think also KYSR still handily beat Indie. It is not the signal.

radiojomo said:What do you guys think is going to happen with KSSE?
We were discussing this a few weeks ago and I know a lot of you guys were doubting that it wasn't going to switch until after August but the ratings are just so bad! Only a 1.0! The station has 3 Class A Signals!
Their 25-54 cume and share went up in April - actually the third best share month they've had. They've became slightly more familiar the last few months and the ratings are up a bit - not a surprise.SuperRadioFan said:SuperRadioFan said:Yes The Sound is #27 in 6+ and #27 in 25-54. Any explanation for this? Thanks

Two of the signals barely penetrate any area of population of the LA metro. The other is a decent secondary facility, and it would seem that the Gato format, on KDLD, is beening considered for a move to 107.1. Given the bad signal of KDLD, the solid showing for the format would indicate it would perform quite well on 107.1. On the other hand, the KSSE format is exclusive and unduplicated, making it a very good sales story and a very salable format.
