This TV - Austin

Start checking KCWX for a new subchannel. KCWX will be adding them, if they haven't already, according to the website.

kcwx ch . 2 ( hdtv ch 5 ) fredericksburg-san antonio. also has 2 low power tv stations construction permits, one for austin and for san antonio. i used to get kcwx in north austin when it was in anaolg on ch 2. this tv has been a subchannel for some time. playing old movies,

KCWX and This TV are on the air on RF 5. What makes it hard to pickup in Austin is that you have to swing your antenna toward Fredericksburg and it's the only station out there. So you're constantly swinging away. I wouldn't hold out much hope for the in-town LPTV repeater. KBVO has one in Austin on RF 51 that I have never picked up. I believe they have just enough signal to provide over the air coverage to Time Warner's cable head end. KCWX's in-town repeater will probably perform the same function.

Am I missing something here? I thought KCWX had This TV on their subchannel for a while now. Has something changed?

IF you are lucky to get it, yes, This TV was always on 2.2 (5.2) I have my antenna pointed to San antonio and can get meTV on KSAT 12.2.

I don't live in TX so I didn't know whether or not KCWX was already airing ThisTV. The original post in the thread gave the impression that it was brand-new.

Doubt it'll ever wind up on Time Warner in Austin :'(

KBVO licensed to Llano and KAKW licensed to Killeen made the cut.
And Time Warner used to carry KCWX but ran into duplication issues when KNVA (licensed to Austin) affiliated with the same network (WB IIRC.)

When the Austin translator for KCWX goes on-air, that will give Austin two OTA signals broadcasting MyNet (KBVO being the other). Wouldn't market exclusivity prevent this?

I'm wondering if the plan is for KBVO to go independent once the KCWX translator goes on-air. This would give MyNet a better signal over Austin and bring ThisTV to the market for the first time, which was my original point when posting the link to their website at the beginning of this thread.

Aren't they the only Austin-area station on VHF-Lo (RF channels 2-6)? If so, couldn't you just combine signals from two antennas with something like this?

I already have two antennas: one aimed at the Austin antenna farm in West Lake Hills and the other at the San Antonio Farm in Elmendorf. I don't have room for a third antenna. Raising the mast would raise it into the path of my satellite dish and we don't want that.

How many OTA channels are you able to pick up between the two antennas?

I pickup 30+ digital channels and subchannels between the two markets.
I get all of Austin signals except the KBVO repeater on channel 51.
I also get all of SA's full power signals expect KLRN and the rim shots.

KBVO did drop its MyAustinTV branding a while back in favor of just the call letters ... so them going indie wouldn't be that far-fetched. Of course, anyone who has seen the Nielsens knows KBVO's audience is too small to measure most of the day so, either way, they're kind of a non-player.

My 1987 Canon VR-HF800 VCR already does this, but it is in my apartment and that means NO OUTSIDE ANTENNA'S

A VHF-Lo antenna inside an apartment would be quite a conversation piece :D (They can be up to 10' wide ;) )
