Thoroughly disappointed with WRXP!

Let's not forget one thing though, before referring to what's on stations like 101.1 as "oldies" (with quotations).

I put it in quotation marks because I feel that the term is very outdated, moreso than much of the music associated with it. First off, it probably gets associated most with a period that CBS-FM doesn't focus much on (1955-63). Secondly, I feel that it implies that this is a nostalgic format for older people, rather than a mix of timeless classics that everyone can enjoy. I'd wager that CBS-FM and other classic hits stations would prefer the latter image.

Think about it like this...in 1995 was CBS-FM playing 30 year old songs? Yes. Same in 1990, 1985 and probably 1980, give or take a couple of years. It's a natural progression.

The progression was quite slow, actually. At their inception in 1972, they focused on music that was 8 to 17 years old at the time, while at the end of their original run in 2005, they focused on music that was 25-40 years old. I'd say we're pretty lucky that they're still willing to go all the way back to 1964, and even earlier once in a while.

But again, all this is just a natural evolution of what started as the oldies format.

At a Home Depot-type store tonite, the piped muzak was playing everything from "Mr. Big Stuff" to "Jungle Boogie" to "Slow Ride". And it sounded perfectly fine...

What is this station's format exactly? This is NOT Triple A. There's more classics mixed in so it sounds like some boring small market classic rock station with rock mixed in. There's not even that many voice over liners and the overnight jock doesn't talk that much on air. Compare this with KUCD Star 101.9 in Honolulu, HI which is truly AAA - there is a big difference.

I agree that it is another pathetic attempt of a bland classic rock format. I am not sure what pisses me off more the bogus marketing how they intended to be or the Triple-A label when clearly this station does not sound Triple A. Unfortunately additional fallout made K-Rock and The Peak more lame since in response have added more bland played out classic rock.

btw - this coming from someone that like classic rock also.

Wow! What an amazing selection of music! Lou Reed, Iggy,Ramones, Mott...what was I thinking? Bunch of bands that couldn't sell out an arena if they were all on the same bill but could be the tent poles of mass appeal radio station...for a bunch of music snobs who couldn't program their way out of a paperbag! SWEETIE! Buy an I-pod, load with crap, listen & enjoy alone.

Considering that everything about you is me, myself, and I, I'm not surprised you think you're in the majority. 1 out of 1 equals 100%.
thank you, mahatma ghandi...lol...what a bonehead

most of those artists tunes have recently been featured prominently in tv commercials, popular film soundtracks and other high profile usage...I get the impression that you must be working for this flea bag operation, doing the work that U.S. citizens refuse to do...good luck with that

And more and more people are doing so, if you haven't noticed. At the expense of radio listening, too...

Thoroughly disappointed with WRXP and WCBS FM!

WCBS FM isnt an oldies station because they dont play DooWop to Disco....January 1, 1948 to January 1, 1980

Classic Hits doesnt sell well with CBS FM.

Time to bring back the "real oldies" type music if CBS FM wants to be the greatest of all time.

Another thread I have come upon that looked as if it could be interesting ruined by the rantings of lalumia. Jimmy will you ever have an intelligent discussion about radio or will everything always be just about you ?

New York City radio, like just about everywhere else, is a wasteland of NOTHING but crap...at the very least RXP is doing something a little different and playing some artists that would otherwise not be heard on NY radio. The potential is there for this to be a decent (not perfect) station.

Who cares if the song was in a commercial or a movie soundtrack? It's now a jingle not art. RXP shouldn't be playing some of the artists that are currently in the playlist that by no way means that plucking artists from obscurity will make the difference because a MAJORITY of the listening audience have no idea nor do they care. You miss the boat because you want to have your own personal station.

I-pod usage has not diminished radio listening in the core 25-54 demo that advertisers crave....and just to head anyone off at the pass Sat. service isn't the issue either.
