Thoughts on Dr. Laura leaving radio?

Not sorry to see her go.

As for her use of a racial slur, she was not even close to being on topic, well maybe half right.

It is my opinion, as someone who worked with people of color every day for many years the N word with ER on the end is a racial slur, and the word that starts with an N has an I and ends with two G's and an A, is used in the community as a term of endearment, among other things. I hear people of different racial and ethnic backgrounds call people in their own racial or ethnic group names all the time that if I used I would be accused of making a slur.

Did she confuse the 2 words, maybe, but there are also comedians such as Richard Pryor who used the ER word in his act constantly, but in the context of a commentary or humor.

I think her act got stale back in the Regan era sometime.

This whole thing points out that the political correctness in this country is out of control. One word can end a career. If you say it one way, it's OK but another way, it's wrong? Isn't the meaning the same? Remember the college professor who was fired because he used the word "niggardly" which means stingy. He was fired just because someone misunderstood what he said. It's gone too far.

IMHO the words may sound alike, but have different meanings, but I would defer to a member of the community, since as a white middle aged man of Irish ancestry ( well PJ O'Rourke did write that the Irish were the Blacks of Europe) I am just guessing.

This is an racial slur

Unrelated but referring to the second clip--the alt. rock band Naked Raygun had a good 45 called
"Slim" that had a rollicking country raveup together with clips from that movie ("now what in
the wild wild world of sports is-a goin' on?") by Pickens. At the end, they altered one of the quotes to have him say "P--- on you! I'm workin' for Naked Raygun!" followed by gunshots (last two words
were "Mel Brooks!" in orig. movie)

By the way, I consider "Honky" a term of endearment among my people. Nobody else can say it though, just white people like me...and if you aren't white, saying it makes you racist. ;)

Gotta agree with Spooner on this one. Whoever developed political correctness should be locked up
and the key melted.

Re: her syndication deal...everyone's right. :D

Premiere sold her show to her own company, Take on the Day Productions, LLC, which still owns it today.

Talk Radio Network is her distributor.

Premiere still handles advertising sales for the show.

I heard that her current contract is almost up.
A negotiating ploy?

Thoughts...

Her contract was indeed up at the end of the year. This is not a great time for talent to be negotiating....andthis controversy just put her in the worst possible negotiating position. I'm sure her syndicator would claim loss of affilliates and loss of sponsors to claim she should accept less.

Part of the appeal of her show is hearing her beat up on people. I have a hard time thinking any listener takes her really all that serious. Agree or disagree...who cares! YOu just want to see her mop the floor with some idiot caller! That's the appeal!

Didn't Clear Channel just remove her from a bunch of stations in recent years? Seems most of her stations nowadays are small & medium markets.

Clear Channel can make or break a syndicated show.

Nothing generates a spike in listenership more
than controversy - especially new listeners,
who want to hear what all of the fuss is about.
Whether they love you, or love to hate you,
they listen. No, I personally do not listen to her...
