I remember Stern getting fired from WWDC for a joke about the Air Florida crash and going to WNNNNNNNBC. I remember Bob Dayton fired from WABC for a Hiroshima joke. Personality radio used to be exciting
Stern was morning guy for DC-101. He supposedly called the airline for a one way trip after one of their planes landed in the Potomic River.

He was not fired for that. But was hired for WNNNBC following D.C.

Jeff in Sa-ra-so-ta!

wasn't that part of it?
They didn't know what they had in Howard or how to market him.

Mel did.

Incredibly Hot 101.5 is now beating 'FLZ in the latest monthlies, so there must be something listeners dislike enough about 93.3 to flee. They play the same music so it must be either the specific personalities (whether live, syndicated or tracked), or FLZ's image in general.

Let's see if they keep the momentum. Either case, looks like a strong showing for Hot.

A lot of things working in HOT's favor...

It's summer; a good season for CHR.

They're new; 18-24's are "innovators" and usually love the newest toys.

HOT is giving away cash and playing few commercials.

I'd love to know what the breakdowns look like in key demos.

Don't fret...I'm sure Tommy has an arsenal he's just waiting for the right moment. Sort of like waiting until his station was on it's last breath before doing anything about it. ;-)

I wonder what Captain Holmes has to say about all of this.

People are flocking to Hot, not because it's new, or they're giving away money (shoot, look at half the people winning money's pictures...I'd put money on the fact that most of them have probably never heard of Hot) but because it's what FLZ used to be...GOOD. Now FLZ has decided to do all it can to make itself look like they have all that Hot has to offer.

Too little too late.

Well, according to AllAccess.com's story today http://www.allaccess.com/net-news/archive/story/96139/meteoric-rise-for-wpoi-in-tampa
Their #1 with women 18-34, #1 women 18-49, and #1 women 25-54. Doesn't look good for FLZ in the long run or even in the Short-Term. Everyone seems to be heading to Tampa Bay's New Number One Hit Station.

Way to early to call it but wow... those are some significant numbers with women. Did you see the numbers for Play 98.7? Ouch. In fact, how about Cox having 4 of the top 5 radio stations in Tampa Bay for August. CBS stays in there with Q105.... and meaning Clear Channel is completely shut out of top 5 overall. I KNOW... it's 6+ but you gotta admit, that's pretty damn good based on where this Cox group was 10 years ago.

Now for my completely insane comment.... 1989-1991: Power Pig smokes Q105 which eventually crashes and burns away from the format. 2011-2013: Hot smokes WFLZ which eventually flips to a WFLA simulcast. OK that was a stupid thing to say... but you gotta wonder.... 93.3, 95.7, 97.9, 100.7, 103.5..... where's WFLA gonna land?????????? My money is still on 98.

But this thread is about HOT so ignore everything I just said. ;)

Hot 101.5 does have a more modern, young and hip sound. A good ole' fashioned CHR war will create better radio between WPOI and WFLZ. Other stations in the market will take note as well.

What is Happening with The Tone on Hot 101.5?!

Not anymore, jmtillery. Now they have a sound that is way too mainstream. So mainstream, they even changed the pitch/tones, whatever you call what sound is the music playing like on BLI or Power 100.1, especially their rival FLZ. I have a list of those songs below (As of August 20, 2014:

-Kiesza/Hideaway.
-Sia/Chandelier.
-Steve Aoki-Kid Ink/Delerious (Boneless.)
-Jessie J-Ariana Grande-Nicki Minaj/Bang Bang.
-Coldplay/A Sky Full of Stars.
-Becky G/Shower.
-Ariana Grande-Zedd/Break Free.
-Charli XCX/Boom Clap.
-Iggy Azalea-Rita Ora/Black Widow.
-Pharrell Williams-Miley Cyrus/Come Get It Bae.
-Jeremih-YG/Don't Tell Em.
-Meghan Trainor/All About That Bass.

Some songs have reverted back to default/normal toned settings:
-John Legend-All of Me.
-Enrique Inglesias-Bailando.
-Maroon 5-Maps.
-Sam Smith-Stay With Me.
-Calvin Harris-Feel So Close.

There has been some new songs that either have been added or have yet to be added in this default setting:
-5 Seconds of Summer-Amnesia.
-One Republic-Love Runs Out.
-Ed Sherran-Don't.
-Nicki Minaj-Anaconda.
-Taylor Swift-Shake it Off.
-Katy Perry-This is How We Do.
-Tinashe-2 On.

THIS IS REAL, and all the other songs (i.e. Nico & Vinz-Am I Wrong, Ariana Grande-Problem, and MKTO-Classic.) are high toned songs and are OK. I was worried about those songs above, and if this is not converted soon, we may just have to go back to FLZ. That is our and their worst case scenario. Also, I want to know why they are doing this. This sound tone sounds like Z100 in NYC or Y100 in Miami, and other stations like sisters WFLC Miami and WAPE in JAX.

Wait, quick rewrite, Am I Wrong, by Nico and Vinz is now part of this list now!
