Thoughts so far on The Party??

It stinks and I miss V-102.5 ...Kid Krappick in the morning is awful!!! Worse than Bob and Tom, John Boy and Billy and all the others combined if you can imagine (just my opinion)! Too bad the best sounding station in town had to go down the drain because the majority of the people would rather croon over country or listen to (c)rap all day. Whatever. So, I'm flipping back and forth between Lightning 100 and Jack. Actually, more to Lightning. Dropped my 102.5 preset for 100.1 ...

Speaking of 100.1, the con-sultants have it sounding like a Lite Rock station more and more.
Heck, even Mix rocks more sometimes.

The question is Tipps, what is your display telling you about 100.1 these days. Need an update.

Nock

Good one, Nock. It's says you're a smarta$$. Every station I get here in REAL Nashville says that. "Nock is a smarta$$ 88.1" and on and on.
All the way to 107.9. And even some stations say other cool things. 1560 says "Nock is a bigger smarta$$ than the owner.
Sponsored by Arbor Mist" LMAO.

You're just jealous because your Gladeville donkey doesn't have digital technology like the TT.

See ya next time you attempt to roll into the big city. BTW, my anti-jazz all techno show starts soon on Saturday afternoons on RFN.
Wait til you see what it displays them!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

;D ;D

P.S. And you weren't even bitter about me mentioning MIX 92.9 (WJXA - #1 in every demo on the planet) ??? What gives? Your house
isn't up for sale by a local realtor yet? (All this is in jest, I guess we'll be headed to TIO or worse.)

I haven't had a chance to compare them to the sound on the River.

Can someone tell us outsiders what the difference in the two stations is? Pros & Cons to each?

Kidd Kraddick morning show is nothing but one big celebrity lovefest. Each celebrity interview I heard used some superlative "best ever", "worship", "icon" blather. Celebrity news stories use same hypeberole machine.

Twenty or so years ago I lived near Dallas. Kraddick had an entertaining 6-10 PM local show. Maybe homogenized, nationally syndicated morning radio makes his show sound like many others out there.

Yeah, I believe Kraddick used to be a DJ at Eagle 97.1 when they were both a Rock leaning CHR and then CHR/Pop. He's one of the main reasons 106.1 Kiss FM Dallas became so successful in the early to mid 90s. His ratings are HUGE there to this day, and his show garners big ratings around the country now. Here's a list of all the stations carrying his show:
http://www.kiddlive.com/goout.asp?u=http://kiddkraddick.com/affiliates/

His show is on in a lot of markets including at Mix 96.1 San Antonio, B-97 New Orleans.

Overall, the music sounds good on The Party, the jingles are great, and I think the variety both in terms of new and (somewhat) older titles aint half bad.

What The Party really needs in order to become a major player in the Nashville market is some good signals in places like Murfreesboro and Lebanon. If WPRT can get its hands on 98.9 WANT in Lebanon that would be a good signal to cover the Gallatin-Lebanon-Mt. Juliet area. Afterall, Nashville already has THREE Country stations of its own that can all easily be picked up in Lebanon, and Lebanon can also pick up Country stations from Cookeville and Carthage.
In Murfreesboro viable options are WBOZ 104.9 (who listens to Gospel music in the Boro anyway??). There's also a couple of translators located 100.5 and 101.9 that could be used.

perhaps the fact that NONE of these facilities are for sale could present a problem: and Bud spend $$$ ? don't think so.

No, that wouldn't work. WGNS is already simulcasting on those translators. .

Last I read, wasn't WBOZ in the last book (although they were one up from being in last place)?

Heheh. . .are you 'Geo On The Radio'? RFN's program guide indicates a show with that title during the time referenced above. . .

If I want smooth jazz, I'll go to Raz'z Bar and Grill on Murfreesboro Rd (which, actually, has pretty good food. . .the soprano sax smooth jazz that plays in the background constantly can be a bit annoying, but I digress).

I too sometimes frequent Razz. There's now two locations - the second one opened up in the past year in Smyrna off of Sam Ridley.

Oh, and I dont know if Tibbs was joking or not about his anti-jazz techno show, but if there's a new Dance music show airing I'd love to hear it.

CHRles ---
I was just razzing Nock, for bustin on me. He does/did Jazz Saturdays (very good shows if I say so myself) and I was just
messing around about taking his show down.

You know the music better than most, why don't you talk to RFN about your idea?

Besides, I can't do radio on anything I can't get digital messages from on my radio.

CR --- Nothing for sale today, doesn't mean nothing will be for sale within, say, January 15th, 2009. But, you're spot on
about someone not spending $$$ on anything. This/these sticks wouldn't come cheap.

"DID" but returning soon to a bigger stick!

The Party has sounded strong to me so far. With WRVW being programmed as a very vanilla Adult CHR (presumably to not cannibalize the listeners from sister station 101.1 The Beat) and me being in Smyrna, I'd listen to Magic 98.5 out of Cookeville if I was in a CHR mood before The Party came back.

So far, Party has had good musical choices IMO, and while I'm either listening to Bubba the Love Sponge via the internet or Howard Stern on Sirius for morning drive myself, Kidd Kraddick probably wasn't a bad choice. The one problem would be if Kraddick gains traction in the market and Premiere Radio (his syndicator) moves the show over to WRVW via the Clear Channel/Premiere connection.

Since Magic 98.5 Cookeville has been brought up I'm gonna go off on a tangence for a bit ;D
Magic 98.5 Cookeville aint a half bad CHR, but truthfully its more vanilla flavored then The River most times. In fact, Magic will usually only add Hip Hop and Rhythmic/Pop records once they've gained traction at WRVW. This despite the fact that Cookeville has another CHR in 106.9 Kicks FM. WKXD Kicks FM is actually very good on jumping on hot new records early while Magic is more Recurrent and Adult friendly (though Magic's consistently amongst Cookeville's top rated stations).
I don't know if I'd go so far as to view WRVW as an Adult CHR. While WRVW is careful with which Hip Hop records to play in the daytime it usually will play its top testing Hip Hop records all day such as Lil Wayne's "Lollipop". They've also been supporting "Lolli Lolli" by 3-6 Mafia and T.I.'s latest titled "Whatever You Want". There's actually a very good CHR that leans Adult by day not too far from here, Wuhu 107 out of Bowling Green. While Wuhu isnt as Adult leaning as it was a year ago, it's still much more Adult friendly then any of the Nashville or Cookeville CHRs. The most Adult friendly CHR in the state is probably Star 102.1 Knoxville. WWST is at times awfully conservative sounding by day though makes up for it with good jocks, and a good selection of recurrents. There are parts of the Nashville metro (especially around Franklin) where one could pretty easily pick up Huntsville's legendary CHR 104.3 ZYP. ZYP has always had somewhat of an Adult flavor, and since they're owned by Cumulus their daytime sound is radically different from nights, ie VERY vanilla sounding.
Going outside the region for Adult friendly CHRs by day I can bring up Mix 93.3 Kansas City, 107.5 KZL Greensboro, and 93.7 STW Wilmington as very successful examples.
For very hot and hip sounding CHRs you've got Z-100 New York, Radio Now Indianapolis, the new Hot 95.7 Houston. We'll have to wait and see which direction 102.5 The Party will ultimately lean on, and how in turn that will impact the sound of The River.

The Kraddick show is not syndicated by Premiere/CC. It is handled by a small syndicator in partnership with ABC Radio Networks / Citadel.

First, I hope the former airstaff are doing well in their search for the next great gig.

As for 102.5 ....sounds pretty good. Overtime, like an IndyEngine, you got a tweak it to make it run smoother. I can only assume that mngt at 102.5 have taken this flip seriously enough, considering the cost that is measured beyond dollars.
Having been thru MANY music formats changes in Nashville, LOL.... I speak only from experience. There is just this one little ditty we need to remember when it comes to change.... Its human instict to fret at Change, so GIVE IT ITS DUE TIME! Stop pulling the rug out from the very ones who are trying to staple the bugger down. GIVE IT TIME. Pump money into the RIGHT airstaff, promotions and TRAIN account executives on how to sale the FORMAT they are required to make budget on. Hire and fire makes NO CENTS!

Hey Rob, I would like to make a request. Please play "Relax" by Frankie Goes to Holloywood. Yeah, I know Star97 played it four times already today. Whatcha gonna do with all 80's all the time?
