I was thinking the I-10 causeway across Mobile Bay might be good for DXing. For some reason, I don't think I've ever made a serious attempt to try this site....about eight miles across salt water.
It turned out to be pretty much a bust. Signals blocked on three sides by poor ground conductivity....so nothing of consequence gets up the 30 mile path from the mouth of the bay to the causeway and downtown Mobile. No Cubans, and not much from the Florida Peninsula.
One minor surprise was WEBY/1330. Monster daytime signal along the coast and in south Baldwin county. Almost invisible in Mobile.
Later in the day my highlight was listening to WABG/960 as tipped earlier in this thread. I had this almost all the way from Jackson to Memphis. Great tunes (blues), nice signal, and hard to believe it was only 1kw.

I can identify with that; my week in Baton Rouge and trying to dx from my hotel room was a total bust; only two local stations came in, in the room, no matter what I tried. (1460 and 1550).cyberdad said:Hi guys............ Result is a high noise level that's all but impossible to null.
A few of the local signals get through, but that's about it.

If it wasn't for the rental car, there would have been no dx'ing.

Now, turn around and make a pass up US41, through Georgia. Make sure you stop at Fincher's in Macon, and that world-famous place in Jackson. I forget the name, but just look for the cars and buses in the parking lot.
