I think it was a bit tongue in cheek though. He kept saying "old Katy Perry records", and later "old Lady Gaga records". Both artists have only been hot for a couple of years now whereas most of the music heard this past Friday afternoon was from earlier in the decade.
So all in all I seriously doubt people who were tuned into 92.3 Now were offended.

The last innovative radio formats in NYC were Pulse 87, CBS-FM, Blink 102.7, and Mix 102.7.

What "almost killed them" was the fact that the music acquired a harder edge by late '95. When they played more melodic alt-rock from bands like Belly and Weezer, the ratings were strong.
