Actually it is when you consider he was a go-to host in the early years (he hosted the last show with the original cast), when the show was considered daring and counter-culture. Now, the show is like a bland 70's variety show--sometimes amusing and content to fall back on recurring characters while never taking too many risks that might offend some group.
