I thought the last song on Eagle 106 before flipping to smooth jazz was Amy Grant's "I Will Remember You". That's what I remember hearing on an audio clip of the format change.

I believe Bon Jovi was the last song from the air studio ..with R.E.M., Boyz II Men, and Amy Grant being played from a production studio.

With Lander firmly entrenched in Boston, Elliot Segal doing his own thing in DC and Patty Steele relishing her role on WPLJ's morning show, there is no Eagle to bring back.

You know, if CC were on a goofy nostalgia kick, Electric 106 would have been a better name than My 106 for this format. Granted, it’s not nearly as much fun as the same 15 songs in the same order hour after hour, but bringing back the “Electric 106 Weather Mix” alone would have been a riot.

Ah the memories....I always thought it was a 10 song playlist, and they updated the countdown weekly...it was horrible, how could they imagine playing 10 songs in the same order every hour would ever work out? The weather jingle WAS funny.

I think they varied the starting point slightly each time they repeated the countdown, say somewhere between 20 and 10, plus the rare new song or just-out-of-the-countdown song to really mix things up. It was like taking the bad part of Hot Hits and putting it on steroids. (Worst of all, the loop of Greatest Love of All that started it off. Any station that plays Whitney Houston back to back is deservedly doomed to a quick failure.)

I thought I read in the Inquirer back those many years ago that Eagle’s problem was that it did extremely well in all time slots except morning (obviously with much of that success coming when 98 went away, but the climb had started before that). Lander came in and took mornings way up, but the rest of the station went down, as it tried to compete head to head with Q. Hindsight is 20/20, but one wonders if they had stuck with more of an adult top 40 tone albeit with Lander in the morning if they could have lasted longer. (Then there was the LovePhones debacle, but that’s another thread….Love Phones, Between the Sheets and whatever it was Kiss 100 called their pseudo talk/music thing at night in the final days….now that was some interesting nighttime radio, lol.)

If I remember correctly, the flip to Smooth Jazz came right before the sale to the company that owned Star 104.5 (I want to say Pyramid Broadcasting). So, actually, the company already (sort of) had an adult top 40 station in Star. For the first few days of Smooth Jazz, WJJZ was even running short promos telling people who were looking for Eagle 106's music to flip over to Star. That was weird hearing the Star "BRRRRRRRRIIIIIIINNNNNNNG!!!!!!!!" sounder on 106.
