Time to Bring Dance back to 103.1FM

Though I'm not a fan of dance music, I do feel it should be on the air for those that like it.

But don't replace Indie for it. That's a really unique station I want to last forever!

Why do you guys still need Indie with their weak signal, when you have not only KROQ, but also Star 98.7 doing alternative now? Im sure if Indie goes away you will see more unique, true alternative music on either Kroq or KYSR. Isnt KCWR an alternative station as well?

Star 98.7 and KROQ are very focused on "active rock" bands like Linkin Park, Red Hot Chili Peppers, Korn, and the like.

Indie does not play any of those bands, and they play all kinds of artists and songs KROQ and Star would never touch. You're not going to hear Scissor Sisters, for example, on KROQ.

Indie also plays a lot MORE of artists like Radiohead and the like. It's just a very different station.

Even established artists have trouble getting on KROQ. Witness Green Day's American Idiot. Indie began playing that when it came out, and KROQ did not add it. Months after its release, it caught fire nationally, and KROQ finally added it, along with old Green Day songs they'd dropped.

Moreover, they mix the playlist and have live DJs that speak without cue cards.

But most importantly, Indie has great feature programs. Jonesey's Jukebox has Steve Jones playing everything and anything for 2 hours. Henry Rollins has a punk/hardcore/eclectic show. Rob Zombie used to have a great eclectic show. There's a heavy metal show, mashup stuff, a local show, an alt-country show. It's just a really neat station, bare-bones as it is.

I was trying to think what you meant by KWCR. Then I realized you meant KCRW!

KCRW has its fans. I find it a bit too esoteric and sleepy. It's a public station, by the way, which means during drive-time it's NPR News. The music is confined to 9am-Noon and nights, mostly. It was cooler years ago, when Tom Schnabel did a truly mixed bag show called "Morning Becomes Eclectic." This was Miles Davis next to Chopin next to British Pop. I think they still call it "eclectic," but it isn't really.

Indie actually has a metal show..... 8) I didnt know that. I like Henry Rollins, I didnt know he had a show on Indie, and even Rob Zombie,,, Kinda surprised that indie would play anything that hard. Dang, I may have to listen to this station online.

I like CD 101 in Columbus ohio, Is indie anything like that station?

It's amazing to me how many don't know the difference between bad corporate radio (KROQ, 98.7.. these stations are two of the worst) and indie. Indie is a very unique station...there is nothing else like it.

As for true alternative stations...CD 101 in Columbus and WEQX Manchester, VT are two of the few around.

There is also nothing like the 0.4 share that Indie gets.

On the West Side, where Indie has a competitve signal with KROQ, KROQ wins nearly 4 to 1 over KDLD, showing that the audience, given the choice and a good signal, picks KROQ overwhelmingly.

In the OC, where the KROQ signal is not the best, and Indie has a local signal, KROQ wins 10 to 1.

David dude you know your stuff but quit picking on my indie granted what you say is true but cmon the signal sucks everyone knows that indie is a great format very much a niche format and is not for the masses just like the sound is very niche but no as indie is. Enough people do chosse indie its still here baby after 4 yrs plus ;D

KROQ is a station still living off their heritage (when it was a cool station)...CBS will continue to milk it for as long as the ratings hold up..

Eduardo (in his defense) has said some positive things about indie...however pointing to the ratings vs KROQ c'mon...

Well, I listened to Indie online today for the first time, and I must say that I am impressed. Are they always sounding like this, or only on weekends? I honestly didnt think any Comercial Fm station could-Would run a format like this, it isnt even really what I would call alternative, its more like Eclectric Rock meets AAA.... Indie is probably easier to sell than a Dance format, and has plenty of P1 Skater dudes, as well as older adults that are probably very loyal to this station, while with KDL Dance Format people got burned out on the repetative playlist or mostly pop remixes that could be heard in their original form on Kiss, Plus no mixshows, lack of Jocks, ect.....

I am a true Loyal Dance Music supporter, but I also love Rock as well, and after getting a taste of this station I honestly dont want it to go away now. Put Dance on 93.9, cause no one listens to that either, plus given the better signal, Dance will likely do much better on 93.9, than what Movin is getting, and with what little dent Dance would make on 103.1.....

Yeah, let's replace one of the most groundbreaking rock stations in the history of the country with Dance Hits.

Mind you, i love the dance format.

But AAA is to Indie's brand of Alt. Rock as 80s Hair Metal is to Soft AC.

The argument is fatally flawed.

They've won awards for innovative programming.

How do you justify CPP with an award?

Most of those awards come from "things" outside the market. How does that help the station survive in its tiny part of the LA market?

Indie is the groundbreaking station in the US alt radio.

How is playing lots of stiffs groundbreaking?

It is pretty shocking that indie even exists and better yet for 4 years and better yet on terrestrial radio and going strong and david comparing them to kroq is just not fair!!!They both appeal to very different demographicis well a a bit of crossover there but totally diffferent people.

Indie is gonna appeal to someone that loves music where the radio is not i repeat is not background junk that is just something to listen to instead it appeals to a true music lover someone that seeks out the different the new the cutting edge of the alt format genre.

This was funny 2 years ago i was listening to them and tk said fall out boy was in the bldg(they do not play fall out boy) and they told tk they were big fans of the station and wanted to be interviewed on the station so tk took a poll of people whether he should interview them. Do not know what happenend but that is hilarious at least i thought so.

David just wondering what station in la do you like?

I love the los angeles radio market.

That would be why 56% of the Indie listeners also listen to KROQ, then?

KRCD and KLVE are my favorites, and I listen a lot to La Vallenata from Colombia and Mega 98.3 from Argentina on line.

Stiffs??.....because they're not on the corporate top 10??? Give me a break....

Of course, there is no such thing as the corporate top 10.

Were the songs that good, Indie would not have a 0.4 today in LA... and would not be beaten 10 to 1 by KTOQ in Orange County, where Indie has in most areas a better signal than KROQ.

That pretty much indicates to me that a large part of the playlist is unappealing, which is, by definition, the same as playing stiffs.

Of course, there is no such thing as the corporate top 10.

Of course there is...just refer to the playlist at KROQ or any other corporate rock station...

you know linkin park, finger 11, fall out boy...and on and on...

funny you should say this because the other part of KROQ's playlist has many songs indie plays...of course you'd have to sit through linkin park and the like 20 times a day to hear them...

That pretty much indicates to me that a large part of the playlist is unappealing, which is, by definition, the same as playing stiffs.

unappealing to whom?? people with lack of musical taste?? perhaps the masses that eat up the corporate garbage force fed them...

So, we got to the truth. Anyone who does not like what YOU like has no musical taste.

If this were Myanmar or Zimbabwe, perhaps you could force your tastes on others. Since it's not, the people have voted overwhelmingly, something like 250 to 1, against the station you like.
