"Today's K104.7"

I would split programming on 99.3 and 1110. Local talk and rush on 1110. On 99.3, boortz, rush, Clark Howard and a little know Andy Dean from Premiere.

As for WKQC, they are the best choice for a true AC. I like it when they play the older music. Not so much with the HOT stuff. I hate the Katy perry CRAP. Hate It!

Katy Perry has taken over almost every format. If I have to hear "Last Friday Night" one more time...

107.9 is more Hot AC, Lite is more AC. K seems to have an identity crisis. One book they're sounding like 107.9, one book they're sounding like 102.9, one book they're sounding older than 102.9. If any of the 3 went away, I wouldn't cry if K-104.7 flipped.

Lite 102.9 is just programmed like any other AC station is - Lady Gaga and Katy Perry do very well on AC stations now. They're doing what works with mainstream AC. They aren't Hot AC, and K-104.7 definitely isn't.
On the other hand, I went in an insurance office and had to wait until the man got off the phone. Now "Live Like You Were Dying" is not unpleasant except for its subject matter. "Our Lips Are Sealed" is kind of annoying but I still thought it belonged on AC even when it was new. "What I Like About You", forget it. I was so happy for a commercial break. At least it wasn't any of the really bad stuff that makes me question the use of the word "Lite".

Another insurance office I went to usually has the junk on "The New 103.7" but I had to put up with "I Would Die 4 U". These are supposed to be PROFESSIONAL offices.

Now if my grocery store played that same junk, they'd have to turn it off every time I walked in. They got annoyed with me for doing that back when they first dumped the instrumentals, but at some point they got the message maybe the customers are more important than making sure ads are heard.

Many of offices and restaurants play 104.7 which drives me nuts. I had to leave a pizza restaurant last week ,in Midland, since this station was played so loud I got a massive headache. One tune I remember hearing had the vocals "Dynamite" in it. This song, by Taio Cruz, is definitely defined as a hiphop song....

Now is this station really AC or Today's Uptempo Rhythmic Hot AC? :)

If CBS did relaunch K 104.7 as a greatest hits or classic hits would it work and do well? And you have to think about Lite 102.9 as they would gain listeners if 104.7 went classic hits.

A gain at Lite 102.9 would be inevitable. I just don't see how much longer Charlotte can support two AC stations and a semi-hot AC station. I can see a semi-hot AC and an AC, but two AC's that sound so similar (K is more stale) in the same market is rare these days. Can't believe K and Lite have co-existed for so long. I feel, personally, that Lite is the strongest of the 2 AC's. Better music mix, better personalities (sans Delilah), better presentation. Lite has more stability on their side, as well.

Classic Hits is the biggest hole in the market and it would be a gold mine.

Perhaps a format similar to 97.1 The River in Georgia would be a good choice for 104.7. I think that is some sort of classic hits station. I listen to it driving down 85 from Anderson, SC to Atlanta. Sounds good. Years ago, their signal used to reach Greenville, but at some point they moved their antenna. Now there is a sports talk station on that same frequency in Spartanburg.

97.1 The River is classic rock, really, despite what they say. They aren't a pop/rock greatest hits, personality-driven station like the CBS classic hits (for example) and do not have as wide of a playlist.

Has anyone noticed that K-104.7 has gotten aggressive once again? Now in rotation are "Pumped Up Kicks", "Last Friday Night", "Moves Like Jagger", and literally every hit of Lady Gaga. They sound like they did in the fall but are still including 70s music. Can they not get a musical focus?

That makes no sense for K to add those songs when sister station KISS 95.1 plays those songs. Now if KISS 95.1 was much more rhythmic then I don't see a problem, then you got to worry about Power 98. I wonder if CBS might be taking K and KISS to compete with Channel 96.1

I highly doubt K-104.7 and Kiss 95.1 have very much audience overlap at all. Each station's audience may want to hear those songs. Heck, there are markets with Hot AC's and CHR's in the same cluster. It's not an issue.

K-104.7 is schizophrenic, IMO. Their musical direction changes monthly. One month it's mainstream AC, then almost Hot AC, then AC, then Christmas, back to AC, now somewhere between AC and almost Hot AC. Foster The People in to Elton John is just awful. I have extremely high regard for CBS Radio as a company, but this station is just a joke. They can't decide if they want to compete with The Link or Lite. Most of the other CBS AC's are quite decent.

It needs to switch to gold-based AC soon, very soon.

They've tried gold based AC. They need to go classic hits. The AC market is covered fine with 102.9 and 107.9, both of which have an idea of what they are trying to do. 104.7 does not and needs a clean slate.

One market that I can think of where CBS has a Hot AC and CHR is Houston with Hot 95.7 and Mix 96.5 where the CHR does well.

As for K 104.7 they need to pick AC or Hot AC and stick with it. I wouldn't mind if they started to sound like Fresh 102.7 in NY.

Sounds like K-104.7 has once again removed the 70s and softer 80s songs. The numbers aren't THAT awful, why can't they get a focus and stick with it (like Lite and The Link)?

Meanwhile, I had several experiences in professional offices last week involving AC stations.

When I paid my water bill "Here I Go Again" by Whitesnake was blasting. Usually the woman has an oldies or AC station. I got in the car and checked the stations that I had buttons for during Christmas. I heard what I believe was Taio Cruz on one and I forget what on the other but it wasn't what used to be called AC.

I spent quite a lot of time in an insurance office after I got a great deal. Lite 102.9 was playing and most of what they did wasn't too bad. But they just had to play "Livin' on a Prayer". They did play "Missing You" by John Waite, which was actually on my standards station (then) during its chimpanzee period.

I've been out of the broadcast industry for over 10 years, but still listen to a lot of radio, both local & elsewhere via the internet.

I'd love to hear 104.7 go Adult Alternative. Just my opinion, and I know the format doesn't survive everywhere. 106.5 The END, as the only rock station that's not "classic rock", has a very wide playlist.

A format similar to KFOG or 94.7 Alternative Portland would be a nice change and fill a void in this area. Although, to my knowledge, most successful Adult Alt stations are not owned by the larger groups such as CC, CBS, etc.

Again, just my $0.02; comments and thoughts welcome.
