I was at WABB when we were playing Sweet Home Alabama. Please, for the love of God, if you're not in Alabama, don't play that song lol. The only reason we did it was because...well...porky, if you ever heard the people that requested it, you would understand
Look, I don't think Old Skool lunches are a bad idea, but I do agree there has to be familiarity with EVERY track that you play. Or, maybe, taking what "jamminoldies" said earlier...maybe in a smaller market, do an all request lunch hour, but allow yourself to spike a Def Leppard or a Digital Underground or even "YMCA" if it gets a request. That way it's a very interactive, listener guided segment, and it makes your audience feel more like they're a part of changing up the station.
Also a big fan of the "myPod" idea where you get listeners to fax or email you their 12-song "playlist" for the lunch hour. The playlist you pick wins lunch for two or whatever, and you play all their requests.
How did we get back on the Ol Skool lunch topic in this thread?
