I realize that, and that's one thing I've never claimed they do. However, there are many things about the company that turn me off, such as their control over the charts (and yes, they do have a ton more influence than anyone else does), their decisions on voice tracking and syndication in major markets, and the seemingly lax attitude toward pushing their stations in the right direction (just look at how bad Y-100 got before they brought Mason in). It's never been CLAIMED that CC corporate does or doesn't do anything, except for the haters claiming said issues. And when you own almost all of the indicator stations that R&R uses for it's charts it's gonna work that way. It might seem like manipulation, but based on the formula that R&R uses, ithat's just how it works. Their "dictation" of voice tracking and syndication is made on the local level, the GM controls the budgets used to pay part-timers. With the advent of automation it allows a station like Y to hire TALENT to do SHOWS rather than waste the money on paying board ops. If you've noticed in the last couple of years, however, Voice Tracking has not been used nearly as much as in years past. There are a handful of radio stations that CC owns that still utilize the technology, but in most of those cases it's in VERY small markets or if it is in a larger market they are sticking with a personality that continues to put up good numbers, the money that would be earmarked for that particular shift usually gets split up between part timers. As far as the Synciation issue, the industry as a whole has done it to themselves. There is not a whole lot of GOOD morning shows available and those that exist on a local level aren't willing to re-locate. More often than not, companies other than CC have bred the age of the syndicated morning show by placing the Kidd Kraddick's of the world in markets that used to be a breeding ground for new talents. Unfortunately, it's the state of the industry more so than ONE company that has forever bruised the medium we know and love.
