It may be just rumor (you know how the radio biz is) but there are rumblings that Fisher has decided to tithe 10% of it's profits for this year and next to the LDS church.

Someone who knows someone who knows a mechanic who works on a Lexus owned by a Fisher bigwig says that the bigwig told him about the 10% plan.

He says KOMO wallowed in mediocrity for 20 years, then sank $60,000,000 into the Mariners' radio rights and still couldn't catch up to KIRO.

But now, the Bonneville brass have done something that no one at Fisher could do for two decades: make KOMO a winner.

And the bigwig says KOMO didn't do anything, but sit tight. So he feels the least they can do is return the favor.

Easily the second most bizarre rumor ever attempted to be spread on this board :D

Remember kids, 90% of the stuff you read on these forums probably isn't close to reality.

I don't know what's funnier:
1) equaliner's post,
2) Howard's failure to recognize the sarcasm (maybe the reply was meant to be sarcastic), or
3) The sad fact that KOMO is a ratings winner only because KIRO is so inept.

What happened to the Bonneville that ran the station before selling it to Entercom?

LMAO!

So let me get this straight ... KIRO-FM's "peer station" --- in terms of ratings --- is the country music station in Lewis County?!!?!!

HAHAHAHAHAHHAHAHAHAHAHAHHAHAHAHAHAHHAHAH!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Turn that bitch into a Spanish-language brokered time station and call it a day. She's done.

KWJZ finished a tie for 12th. I don't know the actual numbers compared to those higher up or how they look now compared to what they've done previously over a long sweep of time but it seems worth a brief note of recognition given that they are often ignored or scoffed at. Higher on this metric than KISW, KNDD and KMTT. For me and I guess for some others it is the mostly instrumentals, low talk in the music that plays a role in me spending time there. If they didn't throw in R&B vocal ballads I'd stay there more continuously but especially during the day I assume they know what they are doing from a ratings standpoint and do this to hold the middle aged women at work.

6+ numbers ??? That is more meaningless than 12+ cowboys :p
Here are your real winners in June 25-54 ;D

25-54
#1 KPLZ
#2 KJR-F
#3 KZOK
#4 KJAQ
#5 KCMS
#6 WOLF/KMPS tie

Mornings DA WOLF easily beats KMPS. KIRO ranks 18th, KIRO-A 22th, KOMO 17th. All these posts about KIRO or KOMO winning is like arguing about which is the biggest turd in the tank. Flush them all :p Real battle shaping up in men between KJR-F, KZOK and KJAQ  Real country battle between KMPS and THE WOLF. WOLF wins mornings and younger demo's, KMPS weekends and older demos :-X KPLZ spanked everyone in women, but wait til Christmas when the revenge of KRWM and KCMS becomes clear  KBKS owns 18-34, but MOVIN and THE END are catching up  Great battles to be had in the ole PPM but all the talk is on the battle for 17th place between KIRO and KOMO :-X

One of the funnier threads on the Seattle board in a long time. ;D

But, seriously, could someone explain why KJR-FM did so well with the PPM? I have read a lot about it, but still don't quite get that connection with JR-FM.

Let me try this one out for size...current management is trying to model Seattle on Salt Lake. Won't work.

I hope you're making some joke? JR-FM is CJJR-FM from Vancouver. It used to do pretty well in the Whatcom County diaries. Now that there are no diaries, KAFE and 92.9 appear to have declined to encode. It's surely true of "KMCQ" junk station.

Well, I hope I don't fall into the abyss of the "jokefulness" of this thread, but no, I was referring to KJR-FM as "JR-FM", only because in the olden days KJR was referred to by many in the biz as "JR". Sorry, I don't really follow Canadian radio. Atleast since Gordon Lightfoot's last hit.

The ironic yet interesting (at least to me) part of this and other threads related to KIRO, are the same folks which frequently bash stations for not doing something different, not taking chances, not changing formats, etc. and are the same ones now mocking and criticizing KIROs owners for doing something somewhat daring and risky. Of course now that KIRO is struggling in ratings by comparison under the new sampling method, you people are reveling in it.

I guess this just goes to show as a prime example of how easy it is to criticize the battle plan when the bullets aren't flying over YOUR head.

see, this is what I love about people that look at the numbers that mean nothing. if you look at the demo's that matter for KWJZ...P35-54, P35-64, P25-54, etc. you'll notice that they don't even show up. That's the not so great part about the very small sample size with PPM. When you look at KWJZ's strong demo's in the latest PPM monthly you'll notice Men 18-34 (REALLY?!?!), Women 35-54 (more believable), and so on. 6+ is like the old 12+...it means absolutely nothing. So when you look at the overall ratings, just realize that they mean nothing especially in the way of billing.

Post 25-54 or 35-54 or whatever is worth paying attention to and I'll look at those.

Post 6+ which would be the broadest audience and I'll compare stations on that. If it means nothing for billing, I leave that to the folks who are trying to bill or paying the bills.

I was simply recognizing that on a very broad playing field it appears they have audience or at least a score that estimates audience. Tell me that you didn't expect KISW, KNDD and KMTT or at least one of them to beat KWJZ on this.

KWJZ plays in the 35-64 demo. They started off in the two share range, but in June have risen to close to a four share and are top five in the last couple of weeks. Seems like they are changing or seeing better results in the PPM. They are also moving up 25-54. Smooth Jazz is making a comeback in a couple of markets, the biggest is San Diego where the station finished top 5 in the key 25-54 demographic. KQMV is also growing in audience, which is good news for Sandusky. Time will tell. At this point media buyers are looking in a very positive way at KJR-FM, KPLZ and KJAQ based on their three book performance. KUBE and KIRO are probably the most hurt stations to date in advertisers minds. KUBE has slipped to the number three or four buy 18-34 after dominating in the diary. KIRO-FM was number three in the diary 25-54 and is now not even top 20. KIRO-AM is worse. Outside of these big swings, the numbers are different but position is relatively stable compared to the diary. KWJZ is a bit better 25-54 and 35-64 than they were in the diary. Cume is way up. The station plays to a niche and the niche has grown in the PPM.

If 35-64 were a viable demographic, there would still be Oldies stations! From what I understand, it used to be but no longer is.

As far as I'm concerned, KJR-FM IS Oldies. (you can call it "Classic Hits" or whatever suits you), but changing the name doesn't change what it is. The music on KJR-FM is still at least 20 years old.......

KJR is NOT an Oldies station. It falls into the old definition of Classic Hits, Rock based, not hit based. A 70s leaning, hit based station(now called Classic Hits)isn't Oldies either. An Oldies station is a hit based, mostly '60s station that would still be around if 35-64 was still a viable demographic.

if 35-64 was still a viable demographic???
What are you talking about?
This thirty year span is where the bulk of the population now resides. Baby Boomers!!
